Everyone on line holds the mold so low letting the liquid metal just fall in, I shove the mold right up and against the spout and let the weight of the liquid metal from up in the pot pressurize the mold and the bullets always come out fully formed and there's hardly anything for the sprue plate to break off!
@EagleEyeShooting
@EagleEyeShooting 8 месяцев назад
Havr you ever considered perhaps your incorrect in your technique? Pouring a sprue creates a pool for lead to pull material as it flashes over and shrinks slightly. Leaving a flatter and more consistent base

I've been looking for a training ammo solution to duplicate Liberty Defense high velocity ammo, and I think you guys have solved my problem. A lighter bullet design cast in zinc is going to survive 2000FPS and get the weight down around where it needs to be.

Zingots! Thats awesome haha.Thanks for the 44 mag vids, I'm on the fence about adding either 44 Mag or 45 Colt to my mix. The idea is revolver (will be my first one) and eventually a lever action same caliber. The 44 mag is looking like a really great zinc cartridge. I dont have the experience but I'd imagine you could get some iron molds in either caliber at or close to 350gr giving a good zinc bullet at the same time as a big bear defense lead bullet
@hartstudebakerkid
@hartstudebakerkid 2 года назад
No need to go that heavy. The advantage with zinc is that you can cast them instead of paying for copper CNC and they are faster then lead and that zinc bullet is going to punch on through just like a copper one.. It all comes down to the same equation F=MA

Have to keep my cast iron mould on the stove to mould zinc. Metals industry came out with lead substitute using bismuth tin and antimony, at 30 bux a pound. Im using pure bismuth. At 10 bux a pound. Expands when it cools which can be an upside. So far only used in my 45 up to 1100 fps. 230 gr mould sized down to .451 weighs around 209 grains. Hasnt broken up til i hit knots in the wood. Didnt want to trash my barrel with copper. Zinc is softer than copper. Bismuth is softer than zinc.

I think we need to use the zinc it's everywhere, and it works. I have been doing this a while, Zinc acts like hard cast, but about 2/3rds the weight. Most wheel weights are zinc, so good times if you know.

@pixelpatter01
@pixelpatter01 4 месяца назад
@@EagleEyeShooting I'm glad it was clear. My point is kids and young adults get focused on something and get into a habit of spotting where the brass hits the ground and picking it up rather than thinking about safety, much like a kid chasing a ball into the street. I know from personal experience how hard it is to find all your brass and what it's worth. It is worth more to instill in everyone around the idea that when people are holding guns you should stay focused on the danger. Teach your kids safety but the responsibility is on you. I'm hijacking your comment section here to reach those thousands of people who may not realize what can happen.
