Before you buy another gift bag, make up bag, pencil bag or any type of bag, grab you scrap fabric and watch this! This is such a fun way to give small gifts for the holidays too!
Ok so I watched like 3 tutorials on how to do this, and got so frustrated while sitting at my machine because I just couldn't get it! I have no concept of sewing construction whatsoever. But THIS tutorial made it so much easier! After huffing and puffing, I went back to my machine and finished my little bag the same night. This video saved the day! Thank you!
Thank you for this fun, easy, and FAST method of sewing a cute and handmade bag. I will use it for a knitting project bag for my many sock UFOs LOL. Great tutorial! Appreciate you sharing this.
I have watched many videos now the last couple of weeks on how to install a zipper and the way you showed it was the best I have seen so far. I use to make all my own clothes - pants with zippers and skirts with zippers when I was in my late teens. I made my suit that I graduated high school in and I was not intimidated by zippers, button holes at all back then but, now in my 50s I have done neither for a very long time. My grandmother passed away some years back and she owned her own fabric store so that will give you a hint as to what my mom and my sewing rooms look like now. I am always looking for easy crafts to make with material to give as gifts or to sell and I have been wanting to make zippered pouches but, I just have had such a hard time following some of the other videos. Your's truly is the best I have seen. I love the seahorse fabric too!! My grandmother's fabric shop was the only one ever to be in the beach town where she lived. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Rebekah in Alexandria, VA
Rebekah, thank you for such kind words. It means so much to me that I can help someone else. As a kid, I taught myself to sew when my aunt passed away and we got her Machine and bags of fabric, not nearly your haul, I’m sure, lol. But to create meaningful little things from it is so rewarding. Good luck to you with all of you wonderful fabric!
This is the best zippered pouch tutorial on RU-vid! I was ready to give up on them and I didn’t want to waste the material and zippered I had prepared and purchased. Your tutorial was easy to understand and simple. My zipper pouch looks professional now! Thanks a lot!
Thank you all for your comments. I appreciate the feedback about the raw edges inside and I am aware of methods to eliminate them. With that said, the intended audience for this video are beginners. The goal is a quick and easy project that a beginner can feel successful at and have something they created that they can be proud of. Thank you again for your input.
I just made my first double sided multi colored zippered pouch thanks to you! super excited for this fun and east craft. And they make THE best gifts!!!
This was my first time using zippers! A great introduction to using them, thank you so much! It didn't come out perfect, I wasn't sure how to hide the zipper ends, but I followed this tutorial to a T and it made a cute, usable, giftable bag my first time trying! Thank you!
Hi Beth, thank you your comment. I’m glad it was helpful. You make a good point about the zipper ends and many patterns will call for a little Square sewn over them. For this one, my zipper end seemed to naturally tuck into the bag. Once I got over my fear of sewing zippers, it really opened up my DIY skills!
I've been sewing my whole, long life, and make bags out of discarded design samples. Thank for the zipper 'sandwich' technique. I was doing something much more complicated with worse results. Now, I can churn out a whole lot of gift bags, yay!
You have just made me DAY. I was wanting a cross over bag for quick shopping here is my answer, NOW I always say I cant sew a button on, but this I DID!!
Thank you so much for this video. It is simple and just what I wanted to teach my granddaughter how to make a simple pouch (this will be her 1st project to put her sewing kit in). Thank you for showing how to put it together. I think she can do this.
Very straighforward instructions.......thank you very much. I will definitely give it a try. I have so many bits of fabric that I have been keeping for something and now I have found the something!
I agree so.t tutorials are way too wordy and all the drama.atic hands turn me off so I move on. Tis lady is to the poi nd and very good goi g to sub to her channel.
Awesome video! I watch so many tutorials. I made my first bag doing it a more complicated way took like 2 hours. Last night came across your video and was like holy cow this was way easier and faster the way you did it. Tried it to tonight took me 30 minutes! Soon I will be getting better to get down to 5-10mins. Amazing video thank you!! ❤
Thank you so much for your video....i was scared to sew with a zipper, but after watching your video, I feel confident that i can make this. It will come in handy with the face washers and make up pads I made, be a lovely set.
Thank you so much for keeping this SIMPLE! I have looked at so many videos on making a zipper bag. They all seem to do it the hard way. What a bummer. Thanks for reinforcing the KISS idea-KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!
Thank you Anita! I’m glad it was helpful for you. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I am self taught, so I know how hard it can be to figure some of this stuff out on your own.
So I am totally spatially challenged. I’ve known this forever but returning to sewing has made me more aware of my visual spatial processing difficulties (like don’t ask me to tell you where something is located based on landmarks cuz I can’t). Anyway, getting the second side done correctly on the other side of the zipper I finally (after taking it apart for the third time realized the zipper needs to be sandwiched in between the outer fabric and lining fabric. I found your channel and you said it!!!!! The key word is sandwich the zipper. No one said that!!! But I took a break, kept thinking about it and thought I have to sandwich this in but I need to double check and watch another tutorial!!! Totally stoked about bag making despite my difficulties😂🥰
Omg!!!! Out of all the tutorials I seen, your method is very easy and straight forward. I was intimidated by the zipper foot but now its my new best friend along with my overcast foot😁
I was able to follow along with you and make my very first zipper pouch! Unfortunately, I chose to use jersey knit for the outside and it wreaked all sorts of havoc on my project but with a little fiddling, I got it to work. LoL Thank you for the tutorial. I'll probably play it every time I wish to make more pouches.
Thank you for the feedback! Jersey knit can be tricky to work with. I’ve heard to use a ball point needle and thread that has some stretch to it. Glad it eventually worked out for you!
I made one today from another video and screwed it up and ripped it apart. Your directions are completely different and oh, so much easier. Thank you so very much. I am a new subscriber!
Great video for beginners! My only problem was I didn't know how to sew over the zipper once sewn all the way around so it lefted my zipper hard to close up at the end of the pouch. Other than that, I loved the technique. Very easy & quicker! 🙂
I've made ones like these too but I always top stitch along the zipper before I sew up the sides and bottom and I zigzag along all the edges once I have done that to keep it from fraying.
Instead of sewing side and bottom so that there are unfinished edges are inside the bag, lay the bag out with right sides of outer fabric together and right sides if lining together. Then sew the long sides of bag, across the outer fabric end and lining end leaving a 3 to 4 inch opening for turning.. Turn right side out, whip stitch opening closed stuff lining down in bag and then no unfinished edges inside bag. Make sure zipper is open also.
Eleanor Fitzsimmons I often have edges inside these little bags. I use wide zigzag or a serger to finish the edges. they have been washed many times and hold up well
What an amazing video!!! I added this to my favorite's list :) awesome job!!! I was scared about doing a zipper, I haven't done anything with a zipper since high school 😆, u made it look like a "piece of cake" :) thank u #SewingQueenForTheWin
I was following your way until I realized that I started to sew it with the outer fabrics touching each other and the lining touching each other. I wanted to sew exactly the same way you did yours. But, It came out great anyway.
Ok, always topstitch the outer fabric to the lining before sewing the bag closed. Your zipper will get caught on the lining with opening the bag. And above all, you never cut your zipper with a rotary cutter, it'll get blunt in an instant and those blades are expensive. Use an standard pair of scissors.
Wow you make it so easy. I have seen other videos and this my dear is the easiest I have seen. Thank you I will be doing a Mickey mouse pouch for my son's wipes and do a Minnie mouse bag for me. Also for gifts like you said.
