Zombicide Invader Review: The Best Zombicide Yet? 

There is one board game called Nemesis. But it's very expensive in my opinion.

Why is that? Thematically, you just like space and aliens more? Or gameplay? The concentrated fire rule is a part of the modern remake, I believe (the one they just finished kickstarting)

Tabletop Dungeon) First of all, I actually like the SF theme. My favorite one and only video game of all time is Dead Space. It shocked me with thematic atmosphere. I felt same for Invader. Also gameplay with molds and pits is great for me. As you said, it’s like a well-made puzzle for me because of new systems like mold, pit, oxygen tank, prototype weapon with energy cell and class(soldier/civillian/scientist) As a matter of fact, I like horde and necromancer system most. I think it’s really brilliant way for adding complexity with some tense.

It's certainly a good entry point. The original modern Zombicide v.2 remake will be shipping in a month or two as well :)

Hah, good point. As a Brit, I don't have a clue about how bullets work, so I assumed that was true. Perhaps there's something special about the air on this planet, not just lack of oxygen. Perhaps it's explosive?! Or something.

Definitely. But it helps if you have some extra bits from a kickstarter; more characters, different abominations etc. To raise the difficultly, you can just adjust the spawn deck, take out easy spawns and increase the overall density of abominations etc. Or increase the number of spawn points. Or you reduce the availability of good weapons - I house rule a limited number of searches in all zombicide games by marking the maps at key points with little plastic cubes to show where a single search action can be performed. You can stack the equipment deck too, however you wish. As for maps, again, of course it helps to have expansions so you can design your own highly variable and complicated missions; or make them larger. You can think of zombicide as a system, rather than a single game. For instance, I've just started running a campaign with my 6-year old, and I've introduced elements of DnD, like a d20 system to attempt things not in the rules. We also meet NPCs along the way who he can interact with and make decisions on.

By contrast, NotLD might be the first Cmon kickstarter I actually haven't bothered with! It seems like such an odd version of zombicide and there's very little extras for it, probably will only appeal to those who are familiar with the movie.

@@TabletopDungeon by all means if i have to choose invaders or NotLD kickstarter version , i would pick invaders but as a base game i'm considering NotLD for that "original call of duty zombies" type of wave survival game

Well, you missed the Kickstarter already, so you'd be limited to the retail edition or absurd eBay prices. It's always very difficult to recommend basic retail editions just because of all the bits you genuinely miss out on, so my advice would normally be to wait for the next kickstarter of whatever edition it ends up being. But from what I've seen, it feels like it has more narrative built into the board with events, but other than that basically brings the original Zombicide in line with changes from other editions, and seeks to streamline gamplay. I don't think it'll be huge changes in any case - no other edition ever has been - but they always improve in a few small ways. It would be a huge upgrade if you only had the first edition of modern Zombicide; less so much of an upgrade from Invader. Ultimately you'll just be choosing by theme. Whether it's worth getting if you already have Invader is difficult to tell until I've actually got my hands on it though ;)

​@Thomas Elder To be fair he probably missed it, rather than chose not to support it. BUT, buying retail is cheaper than backing the KS (including the exorbitant shipping) so he can't really complain about lack of components, because he didn't pay for them.

I don't want to make excuses, buuuuuuut the workload on the day job has gone through the roof, and with the kid still at home since March, it's been fairly mental around here. I haven't played it, but watching a review of it - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Nbu3z-0xTC0.html - there seems to be a lot ...less to the game. According to BGG it's a little more complex, but just seems to be smaller scale, space hulk style fighting inside the ship. It doesn't appeal to me, but it depends how much you want the official storyline and characters.

Just use it...and you might consider changing target priority accordingly (fatties & abominations before walkers)

Sorry for the late reply, your comment isn't appearing in my list for some reason, only on the video itself. Very odd. Anyway, to be honest, the Zombicide series are all very similar, and it's really just a case of picking what theme you prefer. The new edition of Modern zombicide will be out within ~6 months (at retail I mean, the kickstarter already happened), so if you prefer modern day walking dead style with real guns, wait for that. Thematically, most people prefer the Fantasy line (Black Plague and Green Horde), with a slight preferene for Black Plague as Green Horde is harder. That's also where the most expansions are should you get bored of the base game. The future themed Invader is probably the easiest, though you could equally apply the rule changes to other Zombicides, as I have done. So basically, pick whichever you fancy the look of!

Definitely 2nd ed modern - if only for the fact that it has campaign expansions, which I wouldn't play without now. Which reminds me, I totally forgot to review that!

I haven't played 2nd ed modern yet, so it's difficult to say if it's a worthy upgrade. The streamlining of setup may turn out to be more of a hindrance to custom campaigns in the long run, but that's going to be less of an issue if you just get the base box to play the included campaign. You've also missed out of the kickstarter by now, so won't be able to get those awesome extras. I expect in a few months there'll be yet another Zombicide kickstarter to look forward to, see if you fancy that.

Availability aside, because it's pretty hard to find Space Hulk at a reasonable price at the moment... I'd say: Zombicide Invader. But if you already own another zombicide, the difference maybe isn't enough to warrant this too, and some variety might be nicer. Or if you have a strong affiliation to 40K, want to collect Genestealer Cult / 'Tyrannids, then your mind is probably made up by the minis. They are quite different games though (co-op vs competitive), and can accommodate different player counts (1-6 vs... 2?).
