Hi, this is a great video, and I gave it a thumbs up. Very timely now that I'm switching from Skype to Zoom for my podcast. One question: I like to record separate audio files for my guest and me. I see how to do this, but it looks like this will only work if I make a Local Recording. Will it also work if I make a Cloud Recording (which is logistically simpler since I automatically have access to the file)? I've looked everywhere and cannot find an answer

Wow! Great video man really helpful. Zoom is awesome! Way easier! I used to have screen record and use loop back to capture caller audio it was such a process haha

If I am showing a RU-vid video to someone will they see it clearly? On skype it jumps and reacts slowly... and then can I record this event?

I have podcast clients who co host and they are in two different cities . Can they multi track their podcast from zoom on audacity? They tend to talk over each other and their audio quality is pretty poor so I would like to have them record on separate tracks so I can edit and eq separately. Thanks

Thank you for posting this video! You mentioned Garageband but said it wasn't necessary...I want to record using my Garageband project along with my guest via Zoom so it would be just us two. Is that Possible? Would I record using Garageband vs record through Zoom?

Any suggestions for if I forgot to check "record separate audio tracks" for a few interviews? I have it on now for future interviews, but what do you suggest for editing purposes if it is all on one track?

Nothing you can do, you just have to edit from one track for now. Sorry!

Cody, thanks for this! Question: why do you say that if you're doing multiple hosts in one location, you should record in Quicktime? Any reason why two hosts in the same location on the same Zoom call would not work? Thanks again

Are these settings reserved for paid users or a feature available on the free version? I'm not seeing any of these settings.

The multitrack recording for audio should be available to everyone, no matter of account. The "3rd party video editor" option may be for paid accounts only - I can't say for sure

Also, note - some settings can only be changed from Zoom's website, once you are logged in - not in the Zoom app

This works with Audacity, right? Are you using the ATR mic on this video? And the person on the other end of the mic (out of state) co-host can you a ATR mic as well right?
@thepodcastmasters
@thepodcastmasters 6 лет назад
This method is actually for Zoom itself to record a file for you. It will give you an audio recording for every participant in the call. Then you can import it into Audacity or whatever other DAW you want. The other person can use whatever mic they want. And yes, I used the ATR for this vid (no post-production or mixing was done at all).

I"m confused (and REALLY appreciate this video, for the record). I'm going to have an ATR2100 mic and a Zoom H4N Pro digital recorder.. My buddy in another state will have the ATR Mic as well. . Can I make this work with the Zoom H4n as either a backup recorder or even the primary recorder?
@thepodcastmasters
@thepodcastmasters 6 лет назад
So you're actually in a different situation. This is for the zoom.us conference call app. You may not need this at all. If you are BOTH recording your own mics, you could even call each other over the phone to keep things simple. As long as you're reocrding your own tracks, one of you can sync them up and then edit/mix/master. You could also call on Skype, Zoom.us, or Zencastr. The important part is that you are recording your ATR mics onto the H4N, WITHOUT using a call recording app. You don't need one :) Alternatively, if you have Macs, you can plug in the ATR-2100 and record it on QuickTime, which uses very little CPU and will save you buying that H4N and thus save you some money

The only thing is he's not going to recording his own track. I need to have them both. He's getting the ATR mic so when I call him his sound is better than a laptop mic.
@thepodcastmasters

Well in that case, he can record the mic on his computer using QuickTime on Mac, or Voice Recorder on PC. Then he can send you his file, and you can sync them up. That will be better quality than running it through Skype or Zoom. But yes, if you want to call through Zoom.us, using the settings you can make sure it records multiple tracks and just use that

What about sync issues? The separate recordings often do not line up for me. The individual recordings are different lengths and don't sync up. It's a nightmare to hand sync.

Running into that problem right now, ever find a good solution?
@toddwiseman1421

@@Scoop9599 have you looked at ZenCastr? It’s similar to Zoom but is designed to record multitrack audio or video. There’s a free version that works well enough for what I do. It’s not glitch free though and I’d suggest some testing before you do a live show with it but it’s a great product and I’ve never had a serious issue. The Zoom thing doesn’t have a solution yet as far as I know. My theory is that if a participant doesn’t make a sound for a certain length of time, Zoom pauses the recording. When I tape two people on Zoom the conversation is quick and they stay in sync. When I do 4 guests, some people don’t talk for a while and their tracks get thrown out of sync. This is not confirmed but a hunch.

A note about recording location: Zoom.us says *not* to record to Dropbox or other Cloud Syncing service. The recording can get messed up when the cached portion of the recording on the local drive is synced to the cloud. That happened to me with Overdrive. See support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362473-Local-Recording which states, "Important: Setting the default location to a cloud syncing folder (such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or One Drive), an external drive, or network storage device may cause issues with saving and converting the local recording. Zoom strongly recommends keeping the default location on a local drive for recordings."
@thepodcastmasters
@thepodcastmasters 6 лет назад
If you turn off Dropbox while recording (which I recommend doing anyways) it shouldn't cause any issues. If the cloud syncing service is not running, then it's just a folder.

Smart! I’m going to do that from now on.
