This video goes through all three stages. This is very hands on and I show you exactly what the impact of the different settings is. You need to look into setting up a waiting room and then allow students to join your room. This is an important first protection when teaching online with Zoom
Another important setting to stop Zoom bombing is to make sure that you know how to remove someone from your class. There are two important things. Make sure you know how to remove them but also know how to stop them returning to the room. This is going to be key.
Most Zoom bombing is around screen share. You have to learn to use the screen share correctly. When you are teaching, you don't need the screen share to be set for your students. If your students are going into a break out room, you can change the setting. If students can't screen share, then zoom bombing is immediately reduced as it means that if someone comes into your room, they can't actually show anything in screen share because you have disabled it. This is key to controlling zoom bombing. If you need to use the breakout rooms, then it is possible to turn the screen share on so that students can share in their breakout rooms but remember to turn off screen share when you stop working with the break out rooms.
It is also vital that you understand how you can control the audio, the chat window and your webcam. Zoom offers a range of ways of controlling Zoom bombing and it is possible to have quite good control over your participants and what they can do online. It is possible for example to turn off student webcams on entry and it is also possible to control the audio. Make sure that students are not able to chat privately too and this is another setting that can be controlled.
If you put these protections in place, people will be very limited in the things they can do when Zoom bombing. They won't be able to use their audio or their video and they won't be able to screen share. This will massively restrict any zoom bombing they try.
They key is to set as many of these settings at the general settings level. You can make these your default settings and then you don't have to worry if you create a room as you always know you have th highest protection against Zoom bombing.
