I'm making the Roscoe right now and plan on making the WBM half-zip sweater next. I love French Navy patterns but I didn't love the collar construction unfortunately...😢 I'm curious to see how WBM does theirs. I'm wondering if the Roscoe collar could be sewn in reverse order, sewing the wrong side first and then the right side, in order to avoid stitching in the ditch and hoping you catch everything on the inside? I hope I'm explaining myself... I'm not experienced enough to wrap my head around if that's possible...🤔
@TheFrenchSeams_vlog
@TheFrenchSeams_vlog 22 часа назад
I just had a look to remind myself 😂 I think both have you attach the collar on the right side so you have to stitch in the ditch. I’m sure you could do it the other way around. I was lucky because I made both mine in very forgiving fabric so you can’t see where I missed and where I caught the fabric! Fleece is great at hiding mistakes 😂😂 Wishing you happy sewing and successful collars! Thanks for watching!

Great tutorial ❤ thank you. I have the same question as Sheila....do you use a straight stitch or zig zag to stitch down the front seam allowance? And does it need to be maraflex or will regular thread be ok? Thanks 😊
@TheFrenchSeams_vlog
@TheFrenchSeams_vlog 3 дня назад
Hi there! For the front I use a straight stitch but slightly lengthened, so say about 3 or 3.2 length. I don’t use maraflex. Just regular thread. For the back it’s just regular thread too. No need for it to stretch. Hope that makes sense! Thanks for watching

@joanneblair2087 7 дней назад
I wonder the same thing. Would there be problems with doing the entire me necKline?
@TheFrenchSeams_vlog
@TheFrenchSeams_vlog 3 дня назад
Hi Jackie! The neckline still needs to stretch over your head so that why the binding is only on the back edge. If you are binding the neckline of a very wide neck garment you could bind the whole thing. But you’d have to make sure it fits over your head as there would be little to no stretch. Thanks for watching
@TheFrenchSeams_vlog

Hope the below helps Joanne. It still needs to fit over your head which is why usually only the back neckline is bound

@TheFrenchSeams_vlog
@TheFrenchSeams_vlog 3 дня назад
Hi there! Glad you find it useful. Good question, no it’s not on the bias. It’s on the straight grain, it doesnt really have to stretch that much so it’s not needed. You can of course if you like but I don’t find it necessary

Super helpful Rachael, gives a really lovely finish. Just a tip - I always offset the joining seam in the neck band to one side, near to the shoulder seam, it is much less noticeable then - if that is something that bothers anyone but me! 🤣 xxx

Thank you for sharing this tutorial. I copied my ready to wear vest (waist coat) last winter and tried to finish off the neck as they did. I liked how nicely it turned out. I think I sewed it pretty much the way you did. I love how nicely your garments are finished. So, my kids returned last night from their trip to Europe. They visited family in Northern Ireland while they were there. They said the charity shops and vintage shops are awesome, much better than the ones here and came home with tons of clothes. At least the girls did, my son's suitcase seemed to be full of food. Chocolate from Switzerland and snacks from Ireland. Too funny. Unfortunately they did not visit any fabric stores. I may have to save up and visit them myself. Have a great week and thanks for sharing.

@TheFrenchSeams_vlog
@TheFrenchSeams_vlog 3 дня назад
Hi jennett! I’m using just regular gutermann thread, same as I always use, I think I still had my jersey needle in for the woven binding, which worked fine. A universal needle would be good too’ Glad you enjoyed it and hope you have success!

Hi Jane! Thanks for that, I’ve put it in the description. I use regular thread. I don’t use maraflex too often. If you want to use maraflex for the front neckline that would be good, but normal for the binding is fine as it doenst really need to stretch
