Yes this happen to be a 40 over bore case. We've got all the most common Crank/Bore/Thrust measurements listed out here: dunebuggywarehouse.com/blogs/news/vw-type-1-main-bearing-sizing-chart-for-vw-beetle-dune-buggy-engines
Thanks for showing the design. I have a rear wheel drive Skoda 120 from 1983 which has kingpins that need replacing. I almost want to drive the thing into a lake sometimes but this gave me the required hope I badly needed.
@DuneBuggyWarehouse thanks guys.i bought one of these and it came with lose screws and the it rubbed against each other the whole time it would spit and sputter in between gears .I spent or should I say I got ripped off for 2000 dollars going through so called mechanics and I figured it out.all this low quality junk we are getting and paying top dollar for Chinese junk I'm s so done with stupid society.
They can typically handle 100hp with stock reliability or up to ~150hp if you're gentle with launches and shifts. Any more and I'd be calling Benco or your preferred VW Transmission specialist.
That's an asphalt car with dirt tires says Lancaster speedway feature winner which is a asphalt track and it's way to cleant and pretty for a dirt car but still can race on dirt with a setup change real quick but they got dirt tires on it needs big meaty slicks for asphalt circle track racing lol
Very informative video 🎉 I have a question about electronic ignition, I have a 1985 water cooled VW Westvalia 1.9 engine. After purchasing a Flame Thrower distributor, coil, spark plug wires, spark plugs, I've been notified by Pertronix that there is no way these can be installed in my vehicle. Which leaves me confused. 😢 My question is why would air cooled versus water cooled make a difference??? Thanks in advance, PS. If anyone sees this post, can a video be posted explaining this, I cannot find one!
From our tech expert Brian K - the 1.9 vanagons are fuel injected and use the factory distributor sensor as part of the crank trigger, so you're not able to just replace the factory distributor.
I have an after market electronic ignition dist.... When I give it gas and the vacuum pulls it retards the timing instead of advancing it. How is that possible.?????
Thank you so very much for this!!! I am currently replacing the engine in my "82 vanagon" and your videoconvinced me to buy a whole new engine and not to re-use the case...for an extra $2000 it's worth it for the peace if mind.
As someone who is coming back into the VW Fold, I appreciate all these videos. Now that I am retired, I can get to that 64 Metal Roof bug with the stiff front end.....and inspect those cases I have stacked in the corner of the garage.
I've got smartcarbs with a opening that isn't perfectly round, I wonder how flexible the snail thing is? looks like the unisync is the tool to go with maybe
I have a ball joint front end with spindle wheels. One wheel is damaged. The only ones that I have been able to find were previously on king pin front ends. Will the wheel work on a ball joint front end with just changing bearings and races? Thank you for a very clear and informative video 👍👍
Most spindle mounts are setup for king pin front ends, that is true. Check if yours has bearing adapters between the spindle and the wheel bearing - if so then save them! The bearings are easy to cross reference, that adapter can be hard to find though. Appreciate the feedback!
@@DuneBuggyWarehouse Thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge! The website is full of information and very easy to navigate when trying to locate the right part as well!
Hello. I have a case which may need a line bore, as I can see a vw emblem in the middle saddle like you mentioned. Also, I have a slightly loose pin in the thrust bearing saddle. Can that be fixed somehow? All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧🛠
If you can feel the emblem with your fingernail it probably needs align bored. Usually a slightly loose pin is corrected with an align bore, new bearings, and new dowel pins. Oversized pins are available but are rarely needed.
@@soggz4246 Depends on how far out the bore is. If you can feel it with your fingernail, it's likely worn well beyond spec. Bearings would not seat properly in the bore, resulting in very low oil pressure and a rebuild that does not last very long.
The starter used will be based on the transaxle bellhousing. If you have the thicker 3-1/4 inch starter flange you'll need the 6-Rib starter version. If you have the thinner 2-3/4 inch starter flange you'll need the Type 1/002 starter version.
I just picked up a sand rail with a. IRS. The previous owner changed the axle plate and after that it will not go into 1st gear. All other gears are fine. Any suggestions?
@@jessearnett2639 You can take the side cover off and see if the shift shaft or shift fork rod is contacting the side cover. If it's a thick aftermarket side cover - there would be noticeable contact on the side cover if so. The side cover shouldn't have anything to do with 1st gear though. Check your shifter alignment (Rob and Dave's shifter adjustment is the best tutorial) and make sure you have enough external shift rod adjustment. If those are good it's time to have someone look in the trans.
A single barrel carburetor won't need synchronized. If your single carburetor has more than one barrel like a Weber IDF or Dellorto, then yes you still need to synchronize the barrels.
The single side cover 73-79 Beetle transmissions were identical. Some small changes from 68-72 between Super and Standard - mainshaft splines, first gear, final ratios.
