I so remember watching it when it was first transmitted and thinking "this is WAY ahead of its time". Excellent then, simply SUPERB now (I rewatch Assignment 5 a lot and never get tired of it). GREAT!
Great to see this video, by chance. I travelled weekly by train Southport/Euston, to Parliament, but travelled via Wigan as Merseyrail was subsidised and I felt the Wigan line needed all the passengers it could get. So, it's nice to see this routes cab view.
About 1956 we cycled from Southport to Ormskirk to see the Royal Train which was travelling from Preston to Liverpool. It has always baffled me why the decision was taken to stop trains going from Liverpool to Scotland via Ormskirk by having a double track from Liverpool to Ormskirk by electric trains and diesel units on a single track from Ormskirk to Preston, Davuo
I never thought I would see a drivers view. I used this line from 1954 to 1972. Absolutely fascinating. Great quality and commentary. It brought a lot of memories back. Thanks for all the work that went into this video. David
That's not the driver talking to the fella filming :) That's Operations Inspector Stuart Mason and all this footage can be found on the Cab Rides Around the British Isles No. 37/38 Railway Recollections DVD. Filmed on 19th September 1990. Steve Young was also in the cab, I think. 507 023 is named after the man giving most the information in this video RIP, mate!
hi mate maybe you should contact these guys as they run the line now as a heritage one, im sure they also would be very interested in that lost footage www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk/plan-your-day-out/timetables/
God, 30 years ago and it looks so different. I was only looking at how badly Birkdales junction box is fairing, poor thing needs some new paint and a lot of TLC. I've always wanted to see Steamport but we moved in at the late 90's, so never got to see it as an adult :( Great upload, something trivial to someone else is so cool to me :)
It’s high time the “block” at Ormskirk was removed and the railway re-connected. This was once the mainline from Liverpool Exchange to Preston and on to Scotland. Hideous now!
When I was a little kid you could take a coupon from a cereal box and send a quarter and they would send you a Jaguar XK 120 model. I sent a quarter and received nothing so believing in the advertising I sent another quarter being sure to put the correct address and postage as required and got screwed again. I built some XKE models from Aurora when I was a little older and having become somewhat more jaded, I purchased them from a hobby shop. General Mills or somebody owes me two Jags.
He's there in our dreams and our darkest hours , the shadow behind the door, the figure at the top of the stairs that shouldn't be there, the Boogeyman , that haunts all our dreams and makes us wake up grasping reality and the cold morning light with both hands and the thankfulness it was only a dream (or was it ?)
Agreed. David Warner who played Steel for Big Finish also played Doctor Who for Big Finish. And Joanna Lumley played Doctor Who for a Comic Relief special. So David McCallum's potential for being Doctor Who would have been most interesting.
I had a dream-after seeing that last notorious episode on "Enterprise"-and reading that had that programme had 3 extra seasons (5-7), that Cdr. T'Pol discover her long-lost Romulan father on a deserted planet. David-in makeup-could've played her father. However, the series was cancelled and never renewed and David was involved with being Ducky by that time. RIP, David.
@@virginiaconnor8350 I had a dream about a small reveal (after the closing credits of Sapphire & Steel's last TV episode) for how Sapphire and Steel escaped the space-time trap. They just somehow made it out via a sort of priest-hole-like exit somewhere as I interpreted. I agree that David having a guest starring role somewhere in Star Trek would have been superb.
That was an interesting video as after the Waterloo station the driver refered to the level crossing as Brook hall road crossing but I've never heard it called that before. That was St Johns road level crossing and the next level crossing after that is Brook road East and West level crossing ... Hall road is 2 stations up from Waterloo station . Very interesting he should call it Brook hall road level crossing as I've never heard it called that before. 😊 Good vid though
I really wish Sapphire & Steel could be brought back into the modern era. Modernised, but keeping the spirit of the show intact It would be an amazing tv series
This was total clickbait and just you blubbering on about trucks for a long time. The car in the thumbnail was the only reason I started to watch, not even in your video!!!
Very different for me. When I was a child, we lived near Old Roan station. Back then it was all slam door trains running into Exchange, and four tracks until Walton Junction. I did get to ride the North Mersey branch once as they were still using it on Grand National weekends.
Loved this programme ad a teen and as a older gal even now, thanks for fabulous memories, watching the assignments etc, was sad tho that they sent to space forever, they are the good guys, love sapphire n steel, like to see more as did see other elements in the series
