I just found your utube channel Benny! I Love your humble approach =no pressure and enjoy the process!! I ran a 5k race a few years ago,I trained for 2 1/2 months I was not a "runner".I ran the whole race and came in last but I did not take one walk step which was so important to me. I felt so proud of myself!! It was about me and proving to myself that I could do anything I wanted by putting in the effort, I hope you post more often :)

That's the way everyone should think about yourself when learning a language.

This mindset should be more common in the society. It's healthier :) And this "suck a little less every day" got me ;)

Many people are content with comparing themselves to others and feeling bad about it because they feel they’ll never be as proficient as they are. This is a great message to those who want fulfillment in their lives by doing something they’ve been putting off because of erroneous reasons. Best of luck from the United States, James.

It's a fruitless pursuit. No matter how well you do, there's always someone who can make you feel worse because they've done better. I'm close personal friends with people who have had success beyond what most dream of (NY Times best-selling books, hanging out with major celebrities, incredible wealth etc.), but they are STILL wishing they had more. It never ends!

Very nice. Also: Get in the moment and be PROCESS oriented, not just results oriented....moment to moment, process oriented, without pressure of how great you "need" to be. This can help create momentum which eventually turns to big accomplishments. Good sharing, Benny ❤

I haven't thought about it specifically in these terms of not being afraid to be an idiot - that's a very nice way to frame the problem. Today I will not be afraid to be an idiot. Also at work, I get that paralysing feeling of not being able to do a good enough job and so lose motivation for a time. Perfectionism is a ridiculous thing.
@irishpolyglot

I hope you are successful as you strive to be the best idiot you can possibly be today!! Try to ditch that pesky perfectionism, since it truly does you no good!

For the longest time I was learning Latvian and I embraced the ‘idiot’ concept, not knowing it was one of the hardest languages to understand and use. But after a squillion years, I have learned how to ask the right questions (as a beginner) without sounding like I am being rude or making assumptions that anyone could make about any language. So I do embrace the ‘idiot’ concept! 😊

@@irishpolyglot Believe me, I have many a-time. It has helped the areas that I am very weak in. Having learning differences doesn’t help either, but using my strengths of what I am good at, I have good long term memory, but oddly, using flashcards doesn’t help me. So I use colour, pictures and google sheets has been my very close friend.

I use the app Anki every day and stay on top of my decks. You can use other flashcard apps too. Otherwise, I use mnemonics to help remember tricky terms. Lately, I've been using ChatGPT to help me create the mnemonics. I'll definitely discuss this at some stage over at youtube.com/@fi3m ! Best of luck with your Russian! I'm hearing a LOT of it here in Bali!
