Welcome to Alkali Creek Art! My name is Miranda Watson and I do A LOT of playing with art. You will see me open and use mystery art subscription boxes with great tips on how to combine your supplies together to create a work of art. Additionally, you will see a lot of watercolor tutorials and speed-paints with voice-overs so hopefully you can learn something new. Subscribe to my channel if you like seeing what I can create on a moment's notice, as well as more thought-out works of art. I do several art supplies reviews as well. I release videos twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. See you then!
I got a PO Box! Here it is:

"I don't plan on getting any more colors" 🤣😂🤣I *do* like your color order. I've disliked palettes that put the browns and grays at the bottom when they're so closely related to the yellows, oranges, reds, and blues. Safe travels!
Correction. Qor, Permanent Alizarin Crimson is PR177. You said PR172. Thanks for sharing Miranda. This was Awesome! I love my Qor, however I don't use them enough. I really love all the browns. PS, you must have amazing will power if you plan to wait until Christmas to finish your Qor palette. I wouldn't. It's just one more color to complete it. Im too OCD for that. LOL. I would just buy it.
Sooo many QOR colors 🥰 .. You have lots of yellows and oranges 😃 from the Umbers, I think I like the darkest one the most. Have a nice rest of the week!
Wowsers that's a palette to envy. Id lovw some Qor paints to try but they're still a bit less easy to get here in Scotland so they're a bit pricey - im hoping the fact these new colours came out and more of you are reviewing them will mean that more UK suppliers pick them up and the prices improve. Unfortunately Hobbycraft which is the main arts and craft chain of stores in the UK has started doing away with some of the well known brands and is replacing them with what is clearly a cheaper white label brand. So it means i gave to travel to Glasgow or Edinburgh to access an actual shop, or order on line from down in England. Its si frustrating theres no good art store nearer. Anyway, that was a ramble 😂😂 great video, cant wait to see some paintings from this mega palette 😊
Fourth row down and the First four colors look very similar. My favorite is transparent Pyrrole Orange and I have that on my palette!cobalt teal another of my favorites! Beautiful swatching Miranda. Thanks for sharing that with us. ❤Happy Fourth !
What a gorgeous palette and swatch sheet ❤. I’m firm into my no-buy, otherwise I’d be tempted by a few. I have the QoR 12-colour tube set and their 12-colour travel palette (which duplicates some colours in the tube set) but I picked them up on trips to the US, it’s a hard brand to find in Canada (and when you do, they are very expensive).
So much fun! I'm going to be taking a tour of the Golden/Qor manufacturing facility in central NY when I go home for vacation. They are very close to where I grew up. I'm so excited.
It is gorgeous but I would never be able to pick out which color I wanted to use. More than my senior can compute. Added benefit-saw you had the same problem as me with the some of the colors making lumpy pans. Nice to know I'm not a complete klutz.
Watching you with those pansy’s, I would say chef’s kiss of experiences. Total joy, touch of envy and raises those watercolors to the top of my wishlist.
“That’s the joy of filling tubes” You’re filling pans not tubes, lol. It cracked me up because I’m tired and I imagined you trying to fill tubes which would be an even bigger mess.
A thing I learned about Velcro from the doll costuming world - the adhesive they use is acetone based, so Beacon's Fabri-tac or 3-in-1 Adhesive are good to use to beef up the stickiness if you should need it. Also... I need to go through my own Qor paints - I don't have anywhere near as many, but they are pretty much the bulk of my watercolor paints these days.
Oh my the Cobalt Green takes months to dry too! Be careful! I love that pigment (underrated IMO) but I much prefer Schmincke's, because my Qor has so much binder and it's so low tinting. I love how you were able to use the old tin!
I agree the Cad Yellow Primrose is really unique! Thinking of putting it in my porcelain palette. Maybe you need to put that one on your Christmas list too - oh you figured that out -- remember, there will also be FUTURE Christmases! I'm probably an outlier but I tend to like Raw Umber because it's so dark and because it's cool.
Oh Miranda, I am so much different than you. If I wanted a tube of olive green qor paint there is no way I’d wait until Christmas. I’d order it right now so I could have it before I leave. 😂 Maybe I’m a little bit spoiled?
Me too. Im just too OCD to not tie up a loose end. I have to finish things. It's closure. Does that make sense? She's got one empty spot. I would go crazy looking at it.
Hahaha “more colors than anyone needs.” Pul-eeze 😂😂😂. Great video. I’m waiting for some new colors to arrive and will have to rearrange as well. It’s not easy being a watercolorist!😅😅😅
Loving this! I saw a video by Golden once and remember them saying an "Excellent" rating was based on their own testing not ASTM. In some brands PV 23 is not very light-fast and ASTM gives that pigment a lower rating. But QoR has tested their PV 23 extensively and says theirs is Excellent. Given Golden's reputation and cross-referenced with Kimberly Crick's database I believe them!
Just WOW! i knew you had "few" new colors to add but I didn't realize it will fill the whole palette 😅 but seriously it looks so so gooe filled with all of thrse colors! And even though I don't arrange my colors like you but I loved how you arranged theh looks so pretty 🥰 I can't wait to see you paint with them
Such a lovely haul, Miranda!! Good luck with your NO BUY!! Haha, every time I do a huge haul, I think I should do the same...but I know there will be new products I want to try! Lol. I can't wait to see what you think of the Old Holland watercolors, I'm curious if I need to try those! 💗
Miranda! You are a genius! I never would have thought of that trick of dividing up the swatch sheet. I just received 45 Rosa gallery tubes that I hand picked. I’m having so much fun with them. One of my favorite colors is Maroon Brown (pbr25 and pv23) and the aureoline green is stunning!
I have some of the new reformed Mai Meriblu and the older version. They are like 2 different paints. So different from each other. A rumor is going around that the company uses only ground pigment and Gum Arabic. I don't believe that for one minute. As someone who's studied pigments and watercolor making properties for several years, if that were true, the paint wouldn't flow that fast in water. It would pretty much stay put and lack flow. When you leave Gum Arabic out to dry, it becomes hard as a rock and doesn't rewet well at all. Put powered pigment to Gum Arabic, blend and dry it, you will have a very hard rock that will rewet with difficulty. This is the reason why those who make homemade watercolors, need to add a humectant of some kind, like honey, corn syrup, or vegetable glycerin. Paint companies will often use a synthetic version plus a dispersant ox gall or synthetic version that helps the pigment flow in water.
Hello, on behalf of Fuumuui, I discovered your channel last week and wrote to ask if you would like to test out fuumuui's brushes. How can I contact you?😊
Hullo Miranda, Lovely real world example for testing your new to you paints! I was taught on natural hair brushes, back then synthetic brushes were horrible! Now the new synthetic brushes are just wonderful! I use the Princeton Aqua Elite and the Velvet Touch/Heritage brushes too. I was introduced to the Mimik line from Creative Mark and their synthetic brushes are just like the natural hairs I have used in the past from Squirrel hair to Hogs hair, Mimik's do just what their name suggests! The more I see of the Art Whale paints the easier I would feel about recommending them. Now at $1.66 a tube no other brand comes close to them!
Hullo Miranda, I first saw these on Lindsay's Frugal Crafter channel. I do not like to buy budget paints anymore as DaVinci has such great prices and is a top quality paint! I have even tested it against Dan Smith and I rate it BETTER! Noe no one has as many choices as Dan Smith, but other companies have not been caught in a lie either! I have yet to hear if they have settled the court cases, but they have never apologized either! The crux of the case is their not putting in real gemstones into their gemstone paints! The same is said of many of their other lines of paints Primetek being the worst offender! Sorry I did go on. Thanks for showing us your experience with the Art Whale paints!
SO many wonderful DaVinci paints! I was confused at a re-name of Indian Yellow to Soulshine, I was looking for Indian yellow to refill a pan but it was NOT on the website. SO I believe it has just been renamed to Soulshine same pigment numbers at least. I am waiting for DaVinci to get back to me... I did order the urban sketching palette from ROSA and I enjoyed them so much that I got 24 colors to set up a full range palette! Thanks for a lovely video! Please take cafe and have a lovely day!
@@MirandaWatsonArt yep, they did re-name the color. As the ingredients are no longer mined in India, as this is the nomenclature of the original name! I rather like Soulshine too!
What a fabulous gift! You have so much fun ahead of you, and I can't wait to watch your videos on it all. Watercolour paint takes forever to use up! A friend of mine made me up a palette with small dollops of all of the Schmincke horadam granulating colours and although they're tiny and I've used them alot, they still look untouched! 😂 Thanks for another lovely video, have a great weekend 😊
