Hey, y'all, welcome to my channel. Here, I share what it is I'm learning and doing on this homeschooling and homemaking journey. I also love using planners to keep me sane and organized, so I’ll be sharing that, too. I hope I can provide some inspiration, motivation, and encouragement. Thanks for watching, and don't forget to SUBSCRIBE and LIKE!
I hit that thumbs up icon on your video. Can't wait see more creations from you. Splendid video, The Simple Happy Life. Persist in the high-quality work.
We were using my math assistant for Saxon. It has the teaching and answer check, but it also has a customized practice that works on their problem areas. I thought this was great.
We love Oak Meadiw and used it for a number of years. Now we are full Waldorf. In Oak Meadow they are not supposed to do ALL assignments. They are supposed to pick from the assignments listed each week.
Hi. I've been watching your other videos and noticed you've been utilizing these carts for a few years. Have you noticed any sagging/bowing in the shelves of the cart. I believe the weight limit for each is 11 lbs. I just love how much material you can store on the top shelf! Thanks
I love all these options! That local homeschool store looks heavenly! I will have a 5th grader this coming year so looking a little ahead is fun. Your videos are so relaxing and calming hahaha! I haven't heard of some of these curriculums so im going to check them out for myself because I love to "broaden my horizon" so to speak! Thank you!
I just found your channel and have watched at least 15 of your videos. I school very similar to you and I have really found so many things through watching you! My daughter is only going into 3rd, but I'm super interested in oak in meadow for later years. I think you mentioned brave writer also, how do you like O&M compared to brave writer?? I was planning to use B.W. but now I'm torn between the two.
Welcome! It's a blessing to have one nearby for sure. It's only about a 40 minute drive for me, but I meet people who drive there from over 2 hours away! They call ahead for inventory and prices. The things we do for homeschool! 😊
my oldest has been trying to make his own board game and wants to learn coding so we will be doing those for some of his electives this year. we are not a sports family but im so happy when other homeschool families can still do sports because i know sometimes its hard to find teams. thanks for showing the oakmeadow its looks really interesting.
We love board games, that sounds fun. My oldest is working on creating a game on Roblox and has had fun learning more about coding through that process and working with a team to create different aspects of the game. Yeah, sports can be challenging and expensive, but we have found a few options with local leagues and skill clinics through our city. I have really enjoyed Oak Meadow these last few years! Thanks for watching and sharing.
We are going into our 2nd year using Saxon, also using Alg 1/2. We utilize My Math Assistant for grading and Nicole the Math Lady for the videos for one of my kiddos.
We are on the same brain wave for our son’s 6th grade school year…we are focusing on a lot of what you are. We are continuing on with write shop Jr and trying Beuwolf grammar, and adding on some of the Critical thinking Co books to help werd he’s struggling in LA. We are also doing Ancient civilization, but with Curiosity Chronicles , our science is from Guest hollow but focused on health/human anatomy. We are also doing Guest hollows geography course so I can try to start painting a big picture of global society as a whole
I see that! I really like the critical thinking company and have used their resources in some capacity every year. I've never heard of Guest Gallows before I'll have to check it out. Is the geography course you are using through them more focused on ancient geography or present day?
My son is going into 6th and refuses to try any other math but Saxon!! He loves it and we are on year 3 of using it. Nicole is awesome! I only pay for video lessons and grading and it’s worked out great…so save your extra $20 🥰
I hope sharing our resources is helpful to you. It's never meant to be overwhelming! If you are interested in any of the resources shared in this video, make sure to check the description. I've tried to link as many as I could, but feel free to ask in the comments below!
This is amazing! I’m starting next year with OM with my 7th grader and we are only an hour from Williamsburg so I can’t wait to incorporate this! Do you feel like the Language Arts and History go so closely together that you can’t do one without the other? I had other plans for History so was going to do OM just for Language Arts this year just to try it out; but do I need to purchase the History too?
I think for the 7th grade level, you could get away with doing a different history. The younger levels of English and History are in the same coursebook, so I've just followed the history and incorporated other resources as we go. Because the literature for English lines up pretty well with the history lessons, you could look at the table of contents in the Oak Meadow History sample to see if your history plans or curriculum line up. www.oakmeadow.com/curriculum-samples/ Of course, you could also present the information in whatever order makes the most sense. But I would say that you can do the English without the OM history at this level.
Those books in the basket are books that I've starting pulling from our shelves or sometimes the library that I want to incorporate into upcoming lessons.
Thank you so much for sharing❤ I need to plan a field trip to visit the museum. We would probably have to stay a few days to make sure we get to see everything.
You could comfortably do it in two or three days if you want to visit these two. We stayed for a week but only explored the museums this time for two afternoons and evenings. If my kids were younger, we would have needed more time because they would have been tired. I wish I had planned for at least one more day to return to see more and catch more of the viewing/short films. Thanks for watching. 😊
@@TheSimpleHappyLife I guess 3 days would be better. I don’t want to rush through museum. I want us to take our time. Did you have a guide to answer your questions?
No. We went during the week, though, so it was pretty much empty. So wherever we went, if there was a worker or someone "in character" at the museum, we just asked away, and they answered our questions.
I’ve only used Saxon Math in our homeschool. Nicole the Math Lady is definitely helpful especially being a working homeschool mom. One less subject I have to teach.
I went and checked out Not Consumed. Thank you so much for the $5 off coupon!! I ended up purchasing In the Garden, the Old Testament Bible study, and then Uncovering Mercies at the Manger. Very excited for these to come in the mail & see how these Bible studies impact our family devotional time. Thank you again for the $5 off coupon link 😊
Yay! I'm glad you were able to get the coupon. We've also done the Uncovering Mercies at the Manger! I hope these are great additions to your devotional time.
We use Saxon with Nicole the math lady. I love that I don't have to teach math. Haha My kiddo said the explanations/teaching is clear and she really likes Ms Nicole ☺️
I've now had a few people say Nicole the math lady worked for them. My husband and I were looking through the site last night and I think we will use the program.
Thank you! He has really enjoyed learning to film and edit videos lately. We like to encourage and support however we can. When he offered to edit for me, I was like yes, bud, please. 😄
For Saxon we utilized Nicole the Math Lady- check her out she does all levels of Saxon!!! And I personally love Saxon. My oldest hit a wall at Algebra 2 as a 9th grader so we did a switch to Math U see and stepped back to Algebra 1 to make sure we were ok and now he is in Math U See geometry and loves it.- he was math gifted until Algebra 2 (he did all calculations in his head). My middle hated math from when we pulled them from school after covid- she did Saxon 3 (parent led) and then we tried TGTB level 4 and still struggled and ended on Math u see. She is is 6th grade and will be doing prealg for 7th. My youngest has only known Saxon since she has been home since 1st grade and she wants nothing else. This year she is in 4th grade and does Saxon5/4. I just sit next to her and provide more emotional support- she gets it on her own. Once my youngest gets to the Algebra level I will outsource again to Nicole the Math Lady. Hope this helped- very rambly
We’ve used Saxon for 4 years now between 2 kiddos. Levels K, 1, 2, 3, 5/4, and 6/5. We also utilize Nicole the Math Lady to teach our lessons. She’s incredible. Videos are quick and they have a fun corny brain break. She’s very bubbly and not boring. We love that the workbooks have no fluff and are to the point. I appreciate the parent answer key with all the problems worked out so I can see the process if I forget something. I can’t wait for your upcoming videos! 🫶🏻 P.S. great editing Cameron!
Thanks for sharing! I think we will be proceeding with Nicole, the math lady, after checking out the site last night! I had never heard of her before, so I appreciate you taking the time to share. Also, thank you. He has loved learning how to edit lately and asked if he could edit my video. I said yes, bud, you can. 😊
I’ve never used Not Consumed before, but the devotions look amazing! Thank you for sharing those. And your homeschool room/shelves are beautiful & tidy 😊
Love the in depth review!! Thank you so much for doing this. I may have missed you saying this, but do they all include social studies and history and science? Or is this something that's sold separately?
So you can purchase the literature individually or as a unit. For the younger levels, a unit is the literature combined with science OR SS/history. Hopefully, I explained that well.
I've done it that way too. I do feel grateful to have found something that is working for BOTH of my boys...at least for now! I hope it stays that way!
How do you feel OM math is as far as placement? I’m interested in moving to OM next year. My kids have used Rightstart and then Singapore. I wish there was placement tests for math.
I honestly do not know. We were using RightStart Math and Teaching Textbooks before we started OM. The OM 4th grade level was pretty easy for my youngest. So we used it along with Teaching Textbooks and IXL. Since it was a new curriculum I just let it be more confidence building for him, but OM was more of a challenge in the reading and writing for him. The second half of OM 5th grade math is just right for him this year, so we are only using it along with IXL.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fDJcSrwVzhQ.html A little update in this video (you can start at 2:39). I ended up switching to Oak Meadow for the last 2 years because the levels we chose were independent and written to the students. I felt my boys were ready and needing different curriculums to meet them at their levels. I felt overwhelmed with using 2 different levels of BookShark with my boys. I did like doing BookShark with my boys, though.
How do you like oak meadow curriculum compare to book shark? Well I know you have older kids than I do. I have first grader this year. Just want to hear what u can say about it since you have used it before. Im thinking of bookshark science and history.
So I am not sure about the younger years of Oak Meadow. The levels we have done are written to the student and are designed for them to be more independent. I like the art aspect of Oak Meadow and the varying assignments my boys get to pick from. Again I am not sure about the younger levels. I like OM English and History set up for my boys. Now the science is a lot and takes getting used to, but my guys enjoyed it as well. BookShark science is more straight forward with the readings and worksheets, and I like that they have science kits. I don't think OM has science kits until 7th grade.
