Bikes Trails and Greenways is my RU-vid channel where I explore different places to ride, some of them you may have driven by and never realized they were there!
Most of my rides are for novice and beginner riders but as my skill level progresses we may find ourselves on more challenging trails.
I give detailed descriptions of where I'm riding and show all amenities that the trail or greenway may offer.
I give reviews on the bikes and equipment I use.
My goal is to give people options on where they can safely ride.
That greenway looks awesome! The dirt portion of it looks so well maintained. Thanks for sharing! BTW is that a Giant Roam you are riding? How do you like it?
That's my old standby Giant Trance 29, the best bike I've ever owned! For me it's the perfect "do everything" bike. It's rideable on the greenways and very capable at Sugar and Beech mountains!
This area is in a flood zone which is why it was not developed. The city ran a sewer main parallel to the creek and I'm guessing decided to put in the greenway where maintenance vehicle access was and still is. Pretty nice except in hot weather you can smell the sewer entrances when you pass them.
Yes, lots of greenways are built near or next to waterways and in flood zones. Unfortunately, sewer lines are also built in these areas. Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks for checking out my video, we love exploring around Elkin and Jonesville but haven't had the chance to go to Stone Mountain but plan to in the future!
Happy to say the group rides on, their current schedule is Monday evenings! facebook.com/groups/247079512822399/permalink/1412458266284512/?mibextid=uJjRxr
Spontaneously raced here with racinginthewoods and it half kicked my ass, ive been more than a few times to the jump section - but also has some rly cool logs and rock drops and such. Abt the best mtb I know in Winston other than salem lake or hanging rock.
How safe is it? In Boise we have a “green belt”. It’s relatively safe BUT….there has been a spike in homeless and it can get dangerous going through tunnels…specially those who aren’t light up…
I haven't visited since all the rain and flooding but would assume it is assessable by now. You can also start at the Veterans Park end of the greenway, enjoy!
I believe your direction of travel was clockwise around the lake based upon your departure point from Jamison Park. Anyway a great video and thanks for posting.
It's very popular with riders, runners, walkers etc, etc. The trail also connects to Salem Creek Greenway which connects to down town Winston-Salem. Thanks for checking it out!
Thank you for the videos. Looks like you found some I was unaware of so I will be following To look these trails up. Please post some more. Thanks for the sub and it’s been returned
Thanks, I need to get out to the eastern part of the state to do some exploring myself. My current work schedule is interfering with being able to do video editing. We're still out riding and taking pictures but not doing any filming at the moment. Thanks for the sub, I'll keep an eye out for more of your videos!
@@BikesTrailsandGreenways I think he would enjoy the Cape fear River mountain bike trails. I’ve got a series of videos that covers them. Looking over some of yours I think that would be right up your alley. Stay safe God bless, and keep the wheels turning.
I used to ride the trail 23 yrs. ago. Not able to do so at my age now. It was one of my favorite spots in WS. Many great memories. Nice video. Thanks for bringing back those memories.
Cool, i have never seen this video or been there, Finch is only 20 mins and this is only 18 from me. I need to get off my butt and start riding more again
@@BikesTrailsandGreenways I went to Finch park this afternoon and google brought me to a closed entrance, , google said turn right but a huge yellow gate was closed
Had to watch it again,, that climb along the chain link fence has it's share of walkers. I really have been slacking on riding so heading there tomorrow, maybe 1 lap then on to Granite park which is a nice ride
This trail is a good one. They have made some good improvements since I was there last. Take it easy on the trail, if you are unsure about an area, walk it!
Fun place and worth the 6 bucks parking fee. One of the 1st times i rode in about 95 degree weather, sapped my energy in about 20 mins so i made a 90 rule, not riding when above 90,, i come from NY so not used to that temp. and i will be 67 soon. Toilet bowl is a black but i didn't attempt that
It’s a shame that Pedal-Assisted e-bikes are not permitted on trails. It would be a “reasonable accommodation” for senior and physically challenged riders.
I agree. I enjoy seeing older folks and those with disabilities sharing the trails. Some trail systems are now allowing e-bikes when in the past they didn't. It usually takes a group to educate and promote e-bikes before minds are changed.
One of my favorite places to ride around Winston-Salem. It’s long enough for a good workout, has beautiful scenery, and the improvements to the lake over the years have been fantastic. A great place for anyone to walk or ride.
I’ve ridden this trail many times and actually helped build several additions to it back in the 90’s. Having ridden it recently I’d have to say it’s mostly intermediate with some advanced features. It is also a lot rougher than can be seen in a video. If your suspension isn’t very good it will beat you to death. There is also a lot of climbing so if you aren’t in decent shape I would avoid this one until you are prepared for that, otherwise it just isn’t much fun. Keep your eyes open first time around. There are some drops and technical features that can catch you off guard and cause you to crash. It is a challenging and rewarding ride if you are up to it.
Hey Garrison, thanks for checking out our video. It's true, sometimes the GoPro doesn't show the minor details of a trail and makes the hills and drops look smaller than they actually are. Hobby isn't a beginner trail and is still a tough ride for me. I know of a few riders that really love that trail, you guys did a great job back in the 90's!
@@BikesTrailsandGreenways Thanks. I’d have to give most of the credit to Wake Fulp. He was the driving force behind most of the additions to the trail. I spent quite a few weekends following him around as he was working it out. We were always excited to complete a section and then ride it for the first time. Although since then the trail has changed some and the addition of nicer bridge crossings over the pallets and rough structures we were using is nice to see. I will say that whenever we had races there the Expert riders always made everything look easy even with the soap box hill included. Their strength and stamina was always astounding.
I just rode this for the first time two days ago. It was a LOT wetter than your video, but still open! They've also opened an extension to the blue trail just to the right of where you finished at 11:30, which adds about a mile (I'm told). Thanks for the video!
Wow that place has really changed since my last ride there about 10 years ago. The marina was small white building and Linville Rd was just a gravel lot with a water fountain. I've made so many rides and walks around it and out the greenway towards WS. I subbed earlier today after finding your video of the Piedmont Environmental Center.
I certainly has, it's the most popular walking/riding area in the city. It dries quickly and is open when some trails aren't. Thanks for subscribing and checking us out!
This used to be one of my favorite places to bike before I suffered a severe knee injury and no longer ride (plus I'm over 70 now!) Last time I rode to the end, after starting from Gibson Park, we ended up in a construction area, near a lot of businesses. The trail appeared to abruptly end there. This was probably 18 years ago. Has the trail been extended from there? Thanks for video, lot of good memories there.. but I could not find a part 2.
It is a really nice greenway. The trail past Piedmont Parkway was not in the best condition the last time I rode it and it seems to dead end on to a road. Suppositively you can now ride from Armstrong Park in High Point via the High Point Greenway to the Bicentennial Greenway all the way to the Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway that ends near Summerfield. I need to get out and do some more exploring!
Greensboro's Trails & Greenways mapping tool still shows a gap between Burnt Poplar Road and West Market Street - about a mile to a mile and a half depending on route.
Hey Ryan, In my opinion all the trails at Sugar Mountain are both technical and difficult. It can be ridden on a hardtail like yours, I've ridden with folks that have but I don't recommend it. I would continue to ride your local trails to build your skills before tackling those downhill trails.
Hey Ian, personally I think Hobby wouldn't be the best trail to take a hybrid bike on. That being said, the beginning part of the trail isn't as tough and would be worth exploring with a hybrid. Let me know if you check it out!
@@iansimpson5301 There is also the Salem Lake trail that is mostly dirt but more of a greenway type of trail along with several paved greenways in the city.
The paved multi use trail works fine if the mountain bike trails are too muddy. There is a gravel road near the RV campground and another one near the water park but the second gravel trail is all downhill and will end with trails through the woods or a uphill ride back to the road & paved multi use trail.
I go there from Salem lake and instead of taking a left over the bridge continue past the golf course, i go the same way, yeah that a bit of a climb, long and steady but beautiful on a clear day
Have you thought about revisiting trails in the piedmont now that you have a better camera and bike? Would love to see updated videos. Also you’ve never done wild turkey or owls roost!
Nice, i used to do that once in a while but continue to Quarry park. That short but STEEP incline just before you hit Reynolds can catch you by surprise
@@stuntmane100 Great for you. I work 3pm-130am and been taking care of some personal things on the weekends so i haven't been riding much at all except about 2 months ago i rode most of the Creeper trail in VA, my butt paid the price from not riding consistently. Recently built 2021 Niner RDO hardtail with all upgrades and it's been a dust collector ==shameful
