I have to quibble with you saying that you're not being accelerated when you free fall towards earth. Acceleration is simply the 2nd derivative of position with respect to time, and I can easily setup a coordinate system that shows you have a positive 2nd deriviative here.
You are just another victim of a failing system, the monetary system. Use your voice to demand the change that the world needs, the end of poverty, ecocide, politics and war. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yb5ivvcTvRQ.html
Thank you Sabine . Im thinkimg uousimity is a perfect place for geo thermal . Perhaps it can cool down Yosemite National Park caldera so ot wont erupt wile geo thermal electric energy fills in the empty place on our faling grid . . Can we prevent the evential eruption Yosemite. Im hoping we can with geo thermal electric energy to supply the intire united states crid ..!
Go Nuclear (especially Thorium Molten Salt Reactors) and Geo Thermal energy projects. It solves all the of the energy needs and it has few of the environmental problems.
What are the different stages of plasma and ionic energy and at what point does the energy start to destroy the motor without being contained within a magnetic bottle? When people think of nuclear energy they usually equate it to hazardous fallout and lasting contamination. Since everything is composed of atomic atoms, at what point does clean atomic energy start?
Yes, drilling for oil. florida is still not underwater, and I feel worse when millions of oil barrels get leaked into the ocean in transport rather than sourcing oil domestically and putting a bit more CO2 into the atmosphere for plants.
I am a neuroscience researcher and it is the same in my field. Scientifc research has become this vicious cycle of grant writing and publishing pedestrian papers - because to produce ground breaking research advances, it takes time...and grant cycles, tenure cycles do not give enough time. And like you said Sabine, peer review of grants and papers is an "old boys club". It matters who you are and who you know...
Even here in The Hague ( and in the greenhouse area to the south of it ) geothermal is being implemented, and the Netherlands is not exactly a place you would associate with such an energy source ...
My wife was diagnosed with autism as a child. The clients that I have worked with autism/asd/neurodivergencies (they didnt come to me specifically for this) all demonstrate the same pattern of neuro disconnection between brain/body. It is the same disconnection that we see with injuries, and even emotional trauma. She (my wife) had that same disconnection. The disconnect became even more aggressive during times of panic attacks/etc. This is also consistent with the patterns I see from clients. The most fascinating thing about this is that when the brain was reprogrammed to sense/feel/activate muscular systems correctly and in the right sequence...access to the parasympathetic nervous system is possible. Even more fascinating...as this parasympathetic relationship deepened, and they were able to reach it more readily...many of the patterns of "neurodivergency" or "ASD" (in one case one individual was able to start to control their own volume of voice for the first time) simply melted away like they were never there in the first place. The link between these disorders and nervous system dysregulation is likely highly understudied at this current point in time. But I will say that I have worked with neurodivergent clients who had tremendous disconnect between brain/body that had never had what we would consider "trauma" in their lives. How the neurodivergent brain processes information seems to be entirely different, and the engagement of the fight/flight response as well. I have written multiple articles about this work if anyone is interested in this "disconnect" phenomenon. It seems to be an integral piece of the puzzle.
my impression was that closed loop systems were so rare bc the pipes that would b under the most stress (thus most likely to need fixed) were those at the deepest point, so any repairs would essentially entail digging up the entire system (and at that point u might as well just replace it). even the simplest open loop system has the potential to only require repairing half of it at a time
When I first heard this idea from Penrose, I thought it was absolutely brilliant. I never expected so many people to think his idea was far fetched. I am so glad to see that he is getting credit for this discovery while he is still alive. I would also like to point out that he believes the link to a theory of everything lies in deeply understanding “what constitutes an observer”. I believe this discovery is crucial to answering that question and that we will realize that he was right about the significance of this question too
How can you ever test if consciousness requires a brain if you simply ignore cases where people claim to be conscious when they were either dead or had no brain activity. Also dismissing instances of after death communications. A problem for dualism was how does the non physical soul affect the physical. This seems to be an answer to that question and she claims it has nothing to do with consciousness? talk about doubling down on your beliefs. But that is normal if you live in a materialist echo chamber.
The potential of wind power as a global source of electricity is assessed using winds derived through assimilation of data from a variety of meteorological sources. The analysis indicates that a network of land‐based 2.5 MW turbines restricted to non‐forested, ice‐free, non‐urban areas operating at as little as 20% of their rated capacity, could supply more than 40 times current worldwide consumption of electricity, more than 5 times total global use of energy in all forms. Resources in the contiguous US, specifically in the central plain states, could accommodate as much as 16 times total current demand for electricity in the US. Estimates are given also for quantities of electricity that could be obtained using a network of 3.6 MW turbines deployed in ocean waters with depths less than 200 m within 50 nm of closest coastlines. PS 1: the above is the conclusion of the Global Potential for Wind-Generated Electricity Paper by Lu, Xi, Michael B. McElroy, and Juha Kiviluoma. 2009. Global potential for wind-generated electricity. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America 106(27): 10933-10938. PS 2: Vestas has just validated their 15 MW off shore winturbine, GE has validated their 14 MW Haliade-X offshore wind turbine, Goldwind has installed already dozens of their 16 MW MySE 16-260 turbine.
I have a lot of respect for Dr. Pentose, however, in this case I believe he is wrong. "Consciousness" is certainly not "inexplicable" in part or in whole. Consciousness is more frequently defined in neuroscience today as totality of the human brain's experience and ability. I.e. Glasgow Consciousness Scale. Majority of neuroscientists and cognitive scientists are of the opinion that Mind is what the brain DOES (with exception of "type Functionalists", however, those just believe that what the biological brains do can be reproduced by a non-organic medium as well. But both generally agree that there is no need to unnecessarily multiply entities in order to explain how the human brain experiences the world. The part people unfamiliar with cognitive science often find inexplicable is the phenomenon called Complex Abstract Cognition, - that which separates us from all other animals, that which produces an illusion of one's separateness from one's body and brain, and that which gave us science (and also, sadly, - religion). (It's also what induces philosophers like Chalmers to conjure the nonexistent "hard problem of consciousness" out of thin air, but I don't want it to get unnecessarily complicated). Loosely it can be thought of as the ability to understands concepts which have no referents that could be pointed at like mass, volume, velocity or guilt, and the ability to reproduce these from long-term memory. Humans are not born with it, - this is something that develops as we teach an infant language(s). There is a critical period in the human infant's cortical pruning in which a set of language skills needs to be taught, otherwise the resulting human would be hardly more relatable to us than our chimp cousins. But it's important to note that this isn't all or nothing. Chimps certainly have a large degree of self-awareness, and they are absolutely conscious, similar to humans, they are just conscious in a somewhat different way. Can the human body or brain employ Quantum processes on small scales? They absolutely can. But are these currently necessary to explain consciousness in humans? Not at all. Neurophysiology does a pretty good job already, and every year we understand our brains' functionality better and better, without the need to endow consciousness with magical properties (like exocorporeal survival or veridical experiences when unconscious under general anesthesia - (NDE).
A drilling borehole 20 km deep in 100 days? The Russians only managed 12.2 km over 19 years. That company's new technology will need to dazzle and the Earth's crust will need to be extra-deep to keep the mantle's high temperatures as far down as possible. (Come to think of it, keeping temperatures down to facilitate drilling that deep defeats geothermal exploitation purposes.)
Light by which we observe objects is always moving so to see something going on time is relative when I fell out of a tree this time when my arm broke is no longer there but it took a long time for the break to heal so the xray that shows the break is a stationary record of an event that if one observed could still be observed if u could find the photons that started at the event.
There is no cis. Biological men should not compete against biological women in most sports. Poker? Sure! Pool/billiards? Ok. The rest? Soccer, basketball, football, hockey, boxing, MMA, wrestling? NO, of course not. Trans men seem to have a far more dramatic effect from hormone therapy. Funny how we don’t see a lot of trans men entering biological men’s sport. mputee. Does that mean it is fair for him to use
Politicians and the electorate who have very little understanding of the realities of energy have made these silly decisions. Half the people voting believe that energy is a feeling that comes from crystals. It’s a joke that Germany’s highly efficient nuclear has been shut down. Thus Germany is more reliant on coal and gas yet gasoline for cars is bad. The people making the decisions have no clue.
I'm thinking that pumping water into a reservoir that is 20 km deep, needing at least 200 MPa of pressure (excluding at least 40km worth of friction and turbulence) might be a challenge to achieve. Closed loop might be more practical for shallower sites, though. I'm assuming you would need piping on the way down so you don't destroy the rocks and weaken the foundations due to the high pressure.
It's easier to make sense of things without string theory gravity is not a force but exerts a force which can be measured. If you can define the speed of a fixed mass along the surface of the earth then the energy needed to achieve that speed can be attributed to gravity if the same speed is achieved by the mass falling this is used for calculating damage to a crashing airplane at a bad landing. So force equals mas times velocity squared
