I'm guessing the 'bigger than star wars' role is Superman or DC comics related... One of the biggest historical IP's that going through a major reshuffling right now
35:14 Connection to mental health facilities being able to keep people without their consent as long as they are deemed “a threat to themselves or others.” Similar with addicts, unhoused people, etc.
Hi! Tomorrow_Is_Today1 here, watching the vod back. Glad you enjoyed the art and found meaning in it! Really appreciate your work, can't wait to see what's coming up next!
Clicking on old videos is wild. The absolute trainwreck of thoughts going from "Wait, who's this?" "Is this another channel? I thought I clicked... nope, it's the same" "Apparently Philosophy Tube had different people 4 years ago" to a solid 2 minutes before "oh riiiight... I might be dumb". My intellectual shortcomings aside, this was a great video, brilliantly presented arguments. Also creepy as hell, in the best of ways. Shoutout to domming with a microphone
@@owabowa So "the most misunderstood philosopher in the world" doesn't refer to Judith Butler? If you _do_ understand Judith Butler, then you're clearly cleverer than me.
Gender affirming care is an urgent treatment that prevents suicide, but also its a treatment for a common experience for all people and the diagnosis is a fabrication? How is this not massively offensive to those people suffering from gender dysphoria, to equate what they feel to a women deciding to bleach her mustache? If this divide between cis and trans is just an imaginary line, why is there a desperate need to treat these people who supposedly are just like everyone else?
Was there really that much confusion about how you did it? Like, it was pretty obvious to me that it wasn't your actual past self, that it was the same actor who played you in "Identity". It was a really powerful set of scenes, and it was beautifully made. Rhys is a great actor, and you two play off each other very, VERY well.
Why does she sound like a guy? I feel like something is off here. Her arm is the size of a guys too. Whats up? Im confused. Im honestly not trying to be mean. In todays world you never know what to expect anymore. I am just curious.
I can't stay but just thought I'd jump in to say I've been watching your stuff for years, and I intend to watch your screenplay and movie soon! Happy Pride, best wishes ❤
Glad to be a part of this stream. The episode made me feel so comforted and allowed my worries about transitioning to just fade. That whole section of "I'm You From The Future" has made me cry even from just thinking about it, even moreso now that I am finally now an aunty. Thank you Abigail for making me feel a lot happier in my skin at these early stages of getting ready to transition.
I was like, wait, Eleanor Janega, the medieval history lady from youtube? So I looked her up to check and not only yes, the same person, but she's *even cooler than I already thought*!
As being educated in a very progressive-chatholic enviroment, I was learned in the teachings of the parables of Jesus, wich expressely tell us to act towards people of any kind with kindness and respect. There is no distinction in skin color, disabilities, sexuality or sex. This made me grew into not aknowleging people by their phisical attributes, but by their acting towards me. I get more triggered by displays of wealth more than someone skin color. Many people I made good friends with suffers from disabilities, and they told me I am one of their favorite people to go out with because I treat them like "normal people". This doesnt mean that i don't subconciously recognize their physical attributes, when i have to describe them to others i use abjectives that are commonly associated with a certain gender, skin color or disability. But I never use it as a phantasm, because I care more about the relationship i have with them than what they are, I just genuenly wish for them to feel happy when I am around, so I do my best to not to be annoying, rude or unaffectionate towards them and their feelings. I never questioned people by their appeareance, but by their actions. If you make bad actions, you are a jerk. I have nothing more to understand about you, other than just hope for you that you get better, because people all have one thing in common, they change, this means also sex change, and it's fine for me if it make you a better person and not "a jerk".
Pretty sure I'm always going to feel red hot anger at people like the carer with 3 figures worth of patients who "wasn't sure". She deserved the criticism, naff her feelings.
over egging it. Of course if you want to produce babies entirely without the female component that is possible or may well be soon through some synthesized medium thereby negating the female agenda. But even that will be metaphysical veil over what is epistemologically arguable . Naturally that would only apply to humans as all the other species will or will not be selected by the human factor to be a valued and selected by some subjective metrics. We'll kiss goodbye to the mosquito but make sure beavers can continue to create still water for the selected natural forms humans prefer. I'm right at the front of egalite, but there is a point at which some people push the boundaries into the absurd to create a reality that they desire as identity. If you can justify this then you can justify someone identifying as pasta, which is a real thing apparently. Identity is all about "me" and that is solipsism.
Your video essays are superb as ever. I really appreciate how well you incorporate necessary tangents and show how a good philosophy education can make meaning clear for the audience.
I feel like a bit of a dick saying this (because who am I to judge?!), but: ...I liked this episode most out of the recent stuff, at least in some part because of the simplicity of the presentation. Maybe I'm biased, as someone who's avidly watched since it was just you talking in front of a bookshelf. (?) Really nice work.
