I have a question. I did the omori route and got the other ending, but there also were those sirens when I moved away. Can anyone explain why those sirens are there?
I did other ending first because i wanted to see if the game would let me explore the town at night, and alas it did. It's funny a few years later thinking of the one scenario where Sunny just wakes up in the middle of the night and just goes home without letting anyone know lol
I have a really bad hyperfixation for this game and just found out that i need to have basil pass on before i can get this ending. 27 hours just for two possible endings ive already completed 😭
if you mean steam achievement, i don't have one for this ending (unless this counts for other ending achievement or was added in the past 3 years) if you mean steam card badges, then not according to my badge section on steam
This game showed to me I'm not good at dealing loss, or another emotion of such depth. And with some traits I've been developing after the age of 18 (overprotectiveness and possessiveness), I think it's only getting worse. What do I do ? I feel...powerless against this fear. Against me.
In the scene where Omori wins, where you're *so close* to overcoming your depression, only to relapse at last moment and simply give up, is the nost crushing thing I've ever experienced in fiction. Sunny decides that now that he's conquered his own mind and is no longer in denial, that he simply can't handle the truth. This time, though, there's nowhere left to go. He cannot go back. There's no hiding from the truth and simultaneously, he cannot handle the truth. Its heartbreaking.
if you do play it, just make sure you answer the door in the beginning. i haven't played since launch but i believe that locks you into the hermit route
Honestly, I’ve been thinking about this game for a while, and I can’t really tell whether or not everything presented is entirely a metaphor. As someone who places Earthbound only slightly below OMORI in my list of favorite games, I’ve always loved supernatural / psychic elements in stories about kids going through trauma, and I feel like OMORI does have some psychic shit going on and it’s not entirely metaphor. Basil and Sunny’s battle is really weird. You could just chalk it up to a psychotic break, but if Something isn’t real, a lot of things don’t add up. There isn’t anything stopping Sunny from leaving the room other than maybe Basil, but even Basil backs away. Also, Basil’s something suddenly manifests around him, and Sunny can visibly see it, and THEN Basil panics and acknowledges its existence (“Ah! There it is now!”). So if that’s not just a storytelling device, Sunny can actually see “Something Eating You”, and Basil can see “Something Behind You” as he calls it out before you even see it on the occasions you are alone together. And of course, when Basil chants that everything is going to be okay, Sunny backs away, only to be physically pulled closer by both his own Something and Basil’s Something WORKING TOGETHER. So… Something seems to actually be real if you analyze what the game gives you. Which is a huge mindfuck, and really freaky to consider, because it’s also directly implied that the Somethings are formed from the subconsciouses of Sunny and Basil. …Which in turn implies that there’s some sort of psychic manifestation going on, where things that Sunny imagines actually DO exist, but others can’t see it. It’s something freaky to consider, as it has this horrible implication that there is psychic fuckery happening that might go deeper than just “go to therapy”. Bonus: When Sunny fights the poster in Hobbeez, something drops from behind it upon winning. It might seem like a gag, but I actually think there’s psychic shit happening and Sunny can manifest stuff. Maybe OMORI actually takes place in the same universe as Earthbound, and everything that happened takes place long after Ness defeated Giygas? That’s my headcanon at least, because some sort of actual psychic horror really gives the lore a new flavor of mystery and ambiguity. What’s actually real, and what’s just a figment or construct of Sunny’s mind? It’s impossible to tell, which makes both Sunny and Basil’s predicaments that much more dreadful and soul-crushing.
You are correct. Some of Sunny's ideas are real. Mari's ghost, and Kel's comment on hearing someone playing the piano are the proof. But in that case, I feel a bit bad ending Omori and the "Something(s)". In a way, we're their parents, and we're fighting to finish them off, even though it's our fault they're beings of punishment and denial. Ohhhhhhh ! That's why in "Chaos;Child" he didn't let her go to jail. Still, it was wrong to take her powers away.
I needed to read this, because it makes me feel less guilty about including "Omori" in a fanfic that involves super powered stuff, so thank you. Still, gotta find a way to NOT imply ressurection, because I hate when the trope of the power to reverse death for free happens. In ANY midia.
This ending made me realize something: If you continue, you play as the REAL you (Sunny), in reality and go south to save yourself and Basil by telling the truth. If you don't continue, HEADSPACE you (Omori) takes over and leads you to the balcony through headspace. This is proven by the good ending, when you see your Headspace friends try to lead you there. Also, both the good and bad endings perfectly represent both of the main routes in this game: The good ending represents the Sunny Route, spending your moments in reality, fixing Basil, and the bad ending, representing your final moments in Headspace and refusal to help anyone in the end; not even helping yourself. The way to these endings and the routes they represent after the final fight also show how they are direct opposites to each other, through them going in opposite directions: North and South.

Your friends only needed you to hang out with me. That's what caused our guilt to grow. You don't mean... That's right. You were invited here to confess the truth so they could hate you. From the beginning, they were just using you so that they could reach me! The Truth! ...It can't be! Are you telling me Mari was working them? They thought she was. But it seems that Mari couldn't be controlled so easily What? I've been watching them. It seems that Mari has altered something just before the operation. But no one knows what or why. I wonder... maybe they captured her so they could find out the answer to that. No doubt. But I had no idea she was motivated by such pathetic hospitality... we still don't know what changes she has made but, oh well, it doesn't matter. Why is that? They were successful in reuniting all of us but apparently nothing has happened yet. An error in the operation? Hmm, could be. In any case, if you still haven't confessed then I'm not worried either. After all, you are moving tomorrow. So it's true... you and i are... Yes, murderer, but we're not ordinary murderer... we're linked by your cursed sister. You're fine. You forget things quickly. I've been burdened the guilt of being a witness. Everything was done so they could hate us. The only reason Mari is involved is so they could guilt trip you. I was the favorite, huh. That's right. I'm just the leftover of memory you repressed. Can you understand what it's like to know that I'm burdened because of your selfishness!? But... I'm the one your memory chose. ...So that's why you're so obsessed with the truth. Some warped kind of love. Love!? It's hate!! It always told me I was inferior and now I'll have my revenge!! You should understand me, friend. You hide from the truth while i suffer from it! Now I'll finish the work you started. I will surpass you... I will destroy you! You're just like Omori. Well I'm not like you. Unlike you, I'm proud of the role I've been assigned to. Yeah! Damn!! Sunny! Your blood will be the first to be spilled in this glorious battle.
