Hey everybody and welcome! I'm part of a small but growing demographic of gamers - being a Mom, a busy professional, and "older" to boot. But I love to game as a hobby, and my daughter inspired me to start making some videos - hence the birth of this channel! My only purpose is to have fun sharing my love of gaming. I originally planned to make mostly "Let's Play" gaming videos, but I've discovered that I'm not really very good at that! So for now, I'm focused more on sharing some knowledge that I've gained working with armor, clothing and jewelry because I love playing dress-up in Skyrim! You won't find screaming, spazzing, hardcore gaming, or mean spirited things here. Everyone is welcome, and I only ask that we all treat each other with respect and kindness here on my channel. I hope that you'll find my little corner of the world a fun and peaceful place to spend some time; and that when you head back to reality, you leave here feeling happy and inspired. :)
2 Question, since I've googled for a week and can't figure it out...why are some bones listed in green and some white? Are they active vs not active/something like that? And secondly I've followed all your tutorials for a mashup and cannot get bodyslide to work in game with a certain outfit mashup. The translations are correct, it works perfectly in OS and Bodyslide (all morphs work on all parts of the outfit), weights are fine, paths are correct and triple checked, only I can't get it to work in game. The outfit shows up perfectly, but no morphs affect it.
Hello ! First off thank you for your tutorial playlist. I went from "Damn this looks complicate maybe I give up on this" to understanding how and why I do things. I used it for Fallout 4 and almost everything is the same except a detail during installation and there's only one value for each slide (no in game slide). You taking your time to go over everything makes sure if something's unclear I can find an answer. And when you're saying that I need to set an output in the bodyslide settings I can x2 or even jump in the video. I'm kidding but I know this is important and not everyone is dilligently following the whole playlist. Aniways, you said we'll talk about creating and saving body preset and said we'll get over it in details. Well, it's probably better to do it before doing game/mode wide building. Especially if you want to handpick stuff. Everytime you switch something all is reset to preset default. Which is good. You should only use slide to do quick corrections without having to edit the mesh. I made my own body and body (Outfit), so it's not like you don't tell us enough so we can't do it. But I wish you told me why I am putting them into groups. When I make a new group, do I need to edit my preset body to include the new group ? Thanks to you I know almost everything else about bodyslide, so I feel this got lost somewhere in the script. Aniway, not here to complain, I just found a missing piece and I'm bringing it back to you, because I appreciate your work. Thank you again for this playlist !
The other tip I'd add start early, waiting till your over 65 make's real hard speacially if you can't remember the top of an A4 page by the time you get to the bottom rofl, BUT the core addvice still rings thrue, "keep trying", DON'T give up
Indeed - don't give up! :) I agree it can be more challenging as you get older - and/or if you have a lot of other responsibilities to take up your time and mental energies. But don't let those things stop you if you really want to learn!
Excellent video, and definitely needed reminders for days where we all struggle! Such a complex hobby, and oftentimes, VERY challenging. But also so rewarding! You're definitely right, I think we all get blindsided by just how little "modeling" itself goes into 3D, but even now I can already tell it'll look much brighter beyond the learning curve!! Anyone who's watching this video; She speaks the truth! If you want to learn 3D, you can do it! It may be challenging, but anyone can do it with enough dedication and practice!!<3
Thanks Brom!!! As one of my fellow AU students, you’ve been such an inspiration! I would not have been able to get as far as I have without peers (= new friends!) like you and the amazing instructors and mentors there. 🙏🏻❤️
@@ciraeyna-mom 100% agreed!! Just as zuurm and i were saying last night, the struggle bonding is REAL and has helped us all feel less alone and like we can overcome these challenges!!! Cant wait for us all to be Beyond Skyrim devs someday hehe
You don't really "move the arms" - but I assume you mean your outfit does not cover the arms and there are no actual arms, so you just have an invisible part where they are supposed to be? If this is the case, then you'll have to add the body underneath the outfit. I'd suggest checking out my Outfit Studio playlist to see which of these videos might be helpful to you: ru-vid.com/group/PLrGqMZcWJgElCxyW6GnIlt9HAeeSFlkDI&si=-HZH4RCzxv9fCNkl
If you want to import a NIF into Blender, you have a few options. You can use PyNifly or NifTools, but those only work with older versions of Blender. Or you can use Outfit Studio to convert NIFs to OBJ or FBX files, and import those directly into Blender. My personal preference is to just work in OBJ or FBX and use the current Blender - but many people prefer the other way!
This is the way Skyrim works! Your character and NPCs share the same body files. Whatever you build in BodySlide is what all the NPCs will use unless they have their own specific files from another mod. If you want your character to have a different body shape, then I suggest using RaceMenu morphs. You can see more about that here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mGpu6saS6bI.html
I'm not criticizing our heroes of modding, who are tirelessly bringing good new content and constantly expanding our perspective about the game. Constant modding is the reason people still prefer play Skyrim, even the game having good 14 years now, over the newer Bethesda games, and it's the real reason behind the timeless longevity of the game. But, like you did about the Kozakowy's 1660 Gown, I need to say something. In my 8 years as mods user, I saw a lot of great mods, I get in contact with awesome people, with pounds of knowledge about everything concerned to this game and others, and I even tried something based in what I learned... But, there's a problem there: People who usually make mods "speaks" a modding language, and even with a lot of scavenging for a more "normal" information, I fataly reached many dead-ends. It's the first time I really saw someone explaining about something so sensible and crucial like NIFs in a way that even someone who never touched the game can easily understand. The star analogy was simply PERFECT!!!!! Thanks a lot for this!!!
Yay! I had hoped I could explain things in a way that non-modders would actually understand! I had the same struggle as you - trying to understand a whole new language, and very few resources that explained anything. 😉
Your videos are really, really useful to me. Some of my favorite armor and clothes mods are not exactly armors or clothes, in the vanilla Skyrim way, are in fact, acessories. Just the boots and the gloves are armor parts, and in some the upper torso part. Some of most talented mod authors, like Deserter X, who created some of most wonderful armor/outfits mods ever (including my beloved Druid Armor, that I can't live without!) create all in this way because they can put a lot of variations of the same part, without need to re-shape an entire armor (DX armors don't even have a body on it!) and this also, make it easier to create slidershapes to define sizes.
Your videos have been an absolute godsend! I've been trying to edit a mesh in outfit studio for the past couple days (I've never actually opened it before now lol). I was able to get it exactly how I wanted it to be and installed into my game perfectly. It's all thanks to your videos! I appreciate you so much! <3 <3 <3
How does this work with a mesh with sliders? When I mirror the mesh, it doesn't invert the slider data. If I then clear the slider data, merge the Geometry and and symmetrize vertecies, the sliders looses 50% of it's impact.
This is a very good question, and I do not have a satisfactory answer because I've never done it. But it sounds like a great question for Ousnius and the team on his BS Discord! May I suggest you join us there and let's see if we can find the answer - I'd really like to know this as well. 😊 Ousnius Modding discord.gg/2qg2Rzw
In M02, with the output path, I don’t have a mod folder that shows me all the mods I have in file explorer. They are only in mo2, maybe I just can’t find it ? 15:16
You have a folder somewhere, and the trick is finding it! The easiest way to figure out where MO2 keeps your mods is to right-click on a mod in the left pane and select Open in Explorer. Take note of the path there, and then use that to help you set the correct path in the BodySlide/Outfit Studio settings. If I did not understand the question correctly - or if you still have trouble - feel free to post again, and I'll try to help troubleshoot. 😄
Just wanted to say thank you for the videos. You created an amazing tutorials and helped me to learn how to fix clipping in my game. ;) I have a question, is there a chance you can make a video for armor recoloring…armor or other outfit pieces..? Thanks again for your time and really great tutorials. :)
This reference body should NOT be used in BodySlide. It is not compatible with the way Skyrim works, and it's only to be used as a tool in Outfit Studio. If you want to make an outfit into something that can be used in BodySlide, try this video instead! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wm_JekHB9b0.htmlsi=GL3lkNgv1EVQP6sq
If your BodySlide Output files are overwriting the default CBBE body, then that is exactly what you want! Assuming you built a new naked body for yourself in BodySlide...? 😊

mo tutorial on how to start from....opening the app? lots of fancy words but no one seems to know how to do a proper tutorial. sorry if I sound rough, but you put this out there.
As explained in the description, this is an introduction to what the program is all about. If you continue through the series, there are very detailed videos about installation (I suggest you start at the FULL install video not the Quick one), followed by how to get it all set up and then building both a body and an outfit before batch building. Everything you need should be here. And if you still don’t like it, then there are other videos out there to try!
There are not enough 'Thank You's in the world for this whole series. It was very easy to understand and I was able to get my own preset and armor conversions working by following your steps.
I know its possible to use this with Oblivion, but no one has provided any in depth on how to do so. It makes me jealous to see how thoroughly documented everything regarding Skyrim is, because Oblivion has a much smaller community. If anyone could create a guide on how this would work with Oblivion, thatd be great.
Thank you for this tutorial series, they are extremely helpful, even to complete noobs like me! This may be a very basic question with a simple answer, (or the opposite), and you seem very knowledgeable about the topic so I thought I'd ask: I have a werewolf replacer installed that changes the vanilla werewolf model into a werecrocodile. Crocodiles have much longer tales than wolves, and when I sprint in game, the tip of tail does a really annoying twitchy thing that I'd like to fix. How would I go about doing this? Does the tail need more bones so it's not so stiff? I tried weight painting, but it didn't help. I'd like to make my own werecroc model eventually, but I'm holding off until i know I can solve a simple tail problem at least. You can see the model and some of the glitchiness in this video, it's towards the end: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qXe6O0AR-Tg.htmlsi=OlyXFBoEQI91Aiid&t=301 I'd be very grateful for any advice you could give.
I'm glad you enjoy the series! 😊 For your question, I don't think this is a simple one - but I'm not the right person to ask. I am not sure if you need more bones, a custom skeleton, and/or custom animations to fix the problem. If you are interested in learning more about any of that (for Skyrim), consider joining the Arcane University! The experts there could give you much better advice than I can. 😉 Arcane University Discord: discord.gg/arcaneuniversity
As someone with ADHD who gets frustrated quick when following too many complex steps in a program ive never used, you made using outfit studio seem so simple and I learned a lot while finally fixing my outfit after not being able to for days! Thank you so much and keep doing what you're doing doing, you're helping many people who would give up otherwise :)
Thank you for this kind comment! I'm so glad these have helped you - and I am very happy to hear that the style works well for you! I'll try to keep making my videos easy to understand, for everyone no matter their background or experience. 😄
Hi, excellent guide. A question asked by innumerous people over the years ... but never answered correctly. How do you remove "Opposite Gender Anims" from female Housecarls/Followers. Numerous quick answers over the years say to just delete it in SSEEdit with no real explanation (wrong). There is no option to delete it ... HELP! I've used SSEEdit multiple times on a basic level, built a few patches ... but nothing gives me the option to remove the "manly" walk from them. What am I missing? Any help at all would be appreciated, and I'll give you/your channel credit when I pass it on. Thanks.✌
Oh I agree with you - making the women walk like the hulk has to be one of the worst things Bethesda ever did, lol. I just fix it with mods, such as one of the following: www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/36286 www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3090 I have never tried to change it myself in the plugin. However, I did find this post which might help if you prefer to try editing in SSEEdit. This fix would have to be done for every female in the game though, which is what the mods above will do for you! www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/e7h1ck/how_do_i_change_lydias_male_animation_to_female/
If the reference to spacing in brush settings is anything like spacing in Photoshop or Krita brushes, spacing determines how much of an effect you get as you stroke the brush across a surface. A high brush space setting will give you more space between the effects of the brush, a low brush space setting will increase the effect of the brush as you stroke. The higher the spacing, the more you need to go over the area to notice a difference. The lower the brush space, the more dramatic the effect. I just found your videos and am planning to dive into converting several individual armor pieces for a mash-up outfit. I'm truly grateful you've shared these tutorials. This knowledge is priceless for the modding community. It is my belief that more outfit conversions would be available for vastly more body options if others sought out your videos. I'd post links to them in outfit conversion forums of I had permission. So informative. You deserve more subs. ✨
First of all, thank you for the added info! I really love it when viewers share their own knowledge so we can all learn from each other. 👩🎓 And second, thank you for the kind feedback! I really hope these videos will help you achieve what you would like to do. I am always grateful to hear that my series is adding value to the modding community for a game that I love so much. 😍
This is an awesome tutorial...but unfortunately it doesn't cover what I was hoping to find out. What do I do for outfits that aren't just a "simple" conversion. I'm talking about outfits that are just 3D assets and not sized/proportioned to a Skyrim body at all? They are too far off to try and use the inflate/deflate tools as any more than minor use of those and the outfit just becomes a horrible mess. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
Thanks - and I'm sorry this doesn't cover your scenario. I have future plans to cover something more complex like this, but I do not have a video on it yet. You can use the scale function to change the proportions; this can be done either with the black box in the middle of the transform widget on the upper left tool bar - or in the menu you can get by right-clicking on a mesh name on the right side. If you are not very familiar with all the tools in Outfit Studio, you may want to have a look at this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ko0hM1605eA.htmlsi=DwwHfdd0AEsDzpRC Once you know which tool to use, you'll be able to edit the mesh however you need! There is no other trick really...you can do whatever is required to make things fit; and then you can proceed with the rest of the conversion process (weighting, partitions, conforming to sliders if you want it in BodySlide, etc.). I hope this helps! 😊
@@ciraeyna-mom Thanks, yea I had to scale it up to even get it close as like a lot of ported in assets it started out so tiny it was almost invisible. It's a Blender asset from Sketchfab and unfortunately it's pretty skimpy so it truly has to fit (I can't "cheat" by just deleting the body underneath). I was just hoping there was some answer I didn't know about. I'm pretty familiar with most aspects of OS and have seen several of your tutorials (they really are the best and easiest to follow), the only thing I'm not really familiar with is transforms (not even sure what they are lol...I just know they need to be cleared but apparently they can also be used to reshape the mesh maybe?) but I thought maybe that could be helpful so I'm gonna check out the video on those (17 I think). I'm sure there is some method since I know that other people have ported armors from other games or just 3D assets but the only one I really know of is for DAZ assets (as there is a Skyrim "reference" for DAZ studio so those can be morphed before being ported in). Perhaps I should look into making my own conversion reference. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually, anyways thanks for responding and thanks for the tutorials, I wouldn't have gotten this far without them =)
Yeah, porting comes with its own set of challenges for sure! Transforms on a mesh are 'bad' - while "transforming" a mesh is simply moving/scaling it. My video on that is poorly named, and I should probably change it to prevent confusion! So I'm not sure it's going to help you much if you already know your way around the tools. One thing that might help you is using the Pose function to get the mesh positioned on the Skyrim body. I'm assuming the ported outfit is probably not made for the standard Skyrim body pose? If it's not, you can do a little workaround to help get it into place. Here is a quick and dirty unvoiced video that describes the process. It's fiddly, but it works; and it may help a lot in your case since the outfit needs to fit tight on the body. I hope this helps! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--SM8nnHbCKM.html
@@ciraeyna-mom Thanks, yea that will help some for sure (especially with the boots as both are one mesh thus move as one but are not in the same place as my lower legs). Yea, I thought the transforming video was some kind of separate process before I actually got into it. Oh well, I'll figure it out eventually. It might just be a case of some outfits are just more difficult to port than others. I pretty much got the hang of porting weapons and I have discovered that some just aren't made in a way that is workable so it's probably the same for outfits.
Good luck! It is definitely a case-by-case thing, in terms of how difficult it will be. You may end up having to get into Blender if you can't quite get what you need in OS. I love OS, but it's more of a "3D tweaking" software and not really a "3D modeling" software. 😉
@ciraeyna-mom Hello, sorry if my question is unwarranted, but I've been on a conversion spree with the newfound knowledge from your tutorial series (thank you so much). However I have hit a roadblock in the form of not having bodyslide files for the outfit I'm trying to convert. The conversion would be a simple CBBE to 3BA but the author didn't include a ''CalienteTool'' folder so they don't show up in bodyslide or outfit studio :/ Would you perchance have any idea of how this could be solved ? Thank you again for your knowledge, I bow before your wisdom.
No questions are unwarranted! :) I'm really glad you've been enjoying the series! If there are no BodySlide files, then you can just pull either the size 0 or size 1 NIFs right out of the mod folders to convert. Since you just want to convert CBBE to 3BA (and assuming you aren't also wanting to change the body shape), then all you need to do is copy the new 3BA bone weights to the outfit/body. I haven't done a video on this yet - but basically, just load the size 0 outfit NIF into Outfit Studio, bring in a 3BA body (if you built the naked body, you can bring in the size 0 version of it), highlight ONLY the new 3BA bones (there's like...8 or so of them?) and choose Copy Selected Weights. Then select the outfit body/outfit meshes (not the 3BA body you brought in for copying), and right-click to Export as NIF. Repeat for the size 1 outfit. And that should be all you need. If that doesn't make sense or you get lost, post again and I'll see if I can make a quick little video to help. 😊
@@ciraeyna-momAh ! I'm really sorry if I fumbled my question, English is not my first language. I was more so wondering if there is a way to generate these bodyslide files myself, as I do indeed want to conform them to my body preset (and it would be nice for whoever downloads the conversion to have it "complete" - after I post it). Not entirely sure how the .osp / .osd / nif in "ShapeData" and "SliderSets" are made. Thank you again for your godly patience and sorry for taking away from your precious time

Another great video! I had watched another video of yours and commented on it, as I am having issues having built outfits still show up in my game (outfits are showing up invisible or shadowy). Curious to see if building all of my outfits in a new output folder and loading it after everything else will work.
Thank you! :) If you still have trouble after watching the videos, I highly recommend coming over to the BodySlide and Outfit Studio discord to get help: Ousnius Modding discord.gg/2qg2Rzw It is just sooo hard to troubleshoot via YT comments, lol 😄
I followed everything to the T, even troubleshooted it. But when I go to preview my body, it comes out as a broken vanilla skin texture instead of the skin texture I downloaded from Nexus. And even after building batch I notice that my characters body type only shows when they are naked not when they wear clothes. The skin texture of the modded skin I download works in game, it just wont show up on Bodyslide when I preview a male or female body. Edit: And this is for skyrim ae
If the skin works in the game, it's not really an issue that it doesn't show properly in BS. I know it's annoying...but it's hard to know why that is happening, as I've never seen it personally. Just double check all your mod installs and load order, make sure nothing is overwriting things it shouldn't; check the Overwrite folder in MO2 as well since things there *will* be loaded into the game. For the body vs. outfit differences, are you sure they are built to the same preset? Did you check the weight slider to make sure there isn't some confusion related to different body weights? Are you using RaceMenu morphs in the game and, if so, did you build TRI files for the body *and* the outfits? Are you 100% sure the BodySlide built body parts *and* outfits are loading LAST, over any other meshes? You might want to have a look at the other videos in this series to make sure you aren't missing a step for building the body and/or building the outfits! 😊
Glad it was helpful! Please do note that if you are editing a BodySlide project, be sure to use "zap sliders" instead of actually deleting vertices from the body 😉
