Sir, do we have to mug up derivations or every question will be passion-oriented if we are planning to appear in an European PhD interview in pure mathematics?
They may question your basics and ask questions on the subject where you are planning your thesis. It depends to a large extent on the professor concerned. I don’t think they expect you to mug things up but remember there is a lot of expected knowledge which students think of as mugging but professors think people Know at the tip of the tongue as they have been teaching the same subjects for many years. @@Drganguli Sir, your tutorials are nothing to me as I am a mathematics student. I am not telling it in a negative sense, don't get me wrong. But, PDE was not taught to us in sufficient depth in India. In EU, they teach lot more in the postgraduate programs. That's why I am bothered about the difficulty level of the technical questions I might face during the PhD interviews. I am fine with the research-oriented and soft skill type questions.
@@academicgladiator Yea you can be asked deep questions on PDE about their nature, solution etc. you should study the books. But don’t get caught not being able to do simple math Olympiad type questions as that comes across badly
Sir I had an interview on 12 of AUG and they gave me White 221g Slip. So what i need to do know can u tell me or i need to wait for there Administration process or how much time that process takes if there is no step taken by embessy then can i mail to them or not ?
They ask for some more information in the white slip. If not then you have to just wait for processing to be completed. They may check the visa sponsor, the applicants background and history etc. The process can take 3-6 weeks to 6 months. You can ask them after a couple of months but they can’t do much as the case is pending with us government authorities who have lot of backlog.
You will have to wait and see. If they have asked you for any more information you can send it to them. It may take 3-6 weeks or a few months. No one can say for certain.
This is very rare case. It means the visa officer needs more time to check the background of the applicant and the veracity of the documents and the case. In most cases they ask for some other document also but this may be more based on background checks.
Yes it is quite similar but focussed more narrowly at the work you are planning to do. In most cases they will list out what is needed to be addressed in the statement of objective

Yes you have to give the details the embassy asked and then you have to wait. They will use these details to do background checks and also verify the details. It can take a long time in many cases as the government has lot of pending work.

I'm at georgia tech it's a really good engineering school. And I had in-state tuition so it is a no brainer choice! I also got in to berkeley and caltech but it is too expensive so not worth it for similar prestige
Yes you can certainly do that. There are some people who get jobs particularly at IIT without any postdoc. They may be interested in the research area to fill a gap in the department and the courses a candidate can teach.

They nowadays spent time verifying the documents and also doing background checks on the persons or their sponsors in some cases. These take a lot of time.

PhD will help in most cases. But interview performance also matters. It also matters if the institution is teaching oriented or also does research. The quality and university of the PhD degree versus the masters degree of the candidate, and communication skills also matter. If you are hiring for a teacher role, ability to talk and explain concepts in class will be key and if the PhD is not good at that then that can hinder him or her. Don't worry about not doing a Masters first. I did my honours and then I went into the PhD program 8 years later. While the former Masters students did better than me at the start, I quickly caught up and ended up doing a much better published Thesis and papers. I also have the best career when compared to my Masters peers. Something to think about. Forget the Masters.

It depends on the original contribution to the research area in the project. Your advisor will be able to help you to figure out if this is publishable, if they have experience in publishing papers
Sir, Some central universities don't offer dessertations. What a student should do in such case, as in a lot of foreign universities master thesis is important. But i have a review article published during my bachleors. Will on the basis of this our application be rejected ? Or what are the chances?
You can still apply with masters degree. You have to apply to less competitive universities in less competitive countries. Review article is useful. They look at the whole package typically. Good marks and Gpa in college are known to be a good predictor of higher education success in most cases.

Thank you for your nice comments. If you have a diploma, you can sometimes transfer to a US university, and do a bachelor’s, masters or PhD degree. Us needs a 4 year bachelor level degree.
