@@jefftiz1 I just finished up a project 12' with a mud motor on my channel. I planned to load it on the little utility trailer like this but now I have to try the truck! Good stuff
Great seeing you use a paddle tail jig for rockfish, they are my favorite artifical bait to fish for them. I've burnt through my fair share of sassy shads back in the day at the tailrace and in Weldon loading up on them!
Atta bot tiz!!! Won't no doubt when that first stripe'd fish hit. I got on some big solid line fish this week too, in current ripping so hard there were waves.
I appreciate your videos and all your useful information within. I had no idea that the solid striped striper are ocean fish. If the lines are broken it’s possibly a fish that lives local or a hatchery fish. I had no idea how to tell the difference. Thanks again for your great videos.
@@jefftiz1 broken line fish are usually hybrids. a striper mix. we catch plenty of stripers in kerr that have zero broken lines and i can assure you those fish didnt make it over all 3 dams.
@DLXSKIFFMITCHELL broken lines now days isnt an indicator of a hybrid anymore....all the released hatchery stripers have broken lines...you have to look at their tongue to tell if its a hybrid or not and of course hybrid has wider body shape.
The fish you caught in Kerr Lake with no broken lines are most likely fish from original land locked stripers that reproduce naturally in the Dan River or the Stauton River is my guess.
@@DLXSKIFFMITCHELL hybrids are usually a bit darker at the top of them kinda have a brownish color near the top of their back. than the ones Tiz was catching were bright and vibrant, not dullish like a hybrid. The head is a bit thicker on a hybrid in my opinion. I haven’t caught a hybrid on the Roanoke in a long time. Last year I went to the top of the “potholes” where they release water out of the dam to the “potholes” it’s super shallow in some spots so I wade in it like a dummy… anyway I went to the wall that bearly sticks out of the water not the one that’s about 10 feet above the water you’ll never get the fish up without a drop net. Anyway I tore up the hybrids right after the water discharge where the current is still strong but not whitewater. All was on top water spooks and cane walkers. It’s some big ones that stack up right there. That water STINKS still to this day. I hate getting in it because your clothes and all will smell like that nasty water but man it’s too much fun to pass up… I must note the water was discharging closer to the Roanoke river NOT on the “Gaston side” so I walked from the parking area before the dam that accesses the “tail race” and crossed the river using the red bridge and went up the hill and back to the top of the damn. I NEVER had any luck when the water is discharging on the Gaston side where you’re standing at the BOTTOM of the dam. It’s a crazy experience, kinda scary tbh when you think about all the water up above you. You can walk and touch the dam then you can say “I touched the bottom of the Roanoke rapids dam”🤣🤣 I’m getting way off topic but don’t waste your time for fishing. Honestly don’t even go look at the bottom of the dam. You wouldn’t believe all the white patches on the wall of the dam that looks like they used “flex seal” to seal the leaks🤣🤣 very questionable repairs in my opinion but im not the professionals
Great video @jefftiz1. If I remember correctly, you did a video camping at the Triangle in the past. I always wondered where that was. The small ones have arrived. When do you think we will see the big females?
@@jefftiz1 thanks, yes at high water i can get near there from Weldon, had some kill action up there thru the years, stay safe brother, love your reports,
You had a good day fishing . Have you ever flipped that boat in the rough water? I have one like it but i would be afraid to put it there. I am not used to water like that. That is a good way to load the boat.
Yes. I have flipped my boat a few times. 2 upstream from Weldon. And 4 times going thru The Gap at Weldon ramp. I have seen other boats make mistakes like mine. This want stop me. & This is why there are so many fish where I venture to go. It is dangerous.
@@garywoodlief1976 yes. The boat & trolling motor floats.. battery and tackle are gone. The rule is don't put nothing in the boat you are not willing to part with.
