You're right when you say Honda get called boring or dull compared to the opposition but I will take build quality and usability over peak power or race like geometry. Most people will be faster on say a CBR600 than an R6 unless they are really good riders.
O Jesus Christ, show me where does it say "Super" Blackbird on these bikes...show me.please....because Honda never built a bike called Super Blackbird......Its a plain 1100 Blackbird.Nothing fucking super about it......
Having a bad day or something? Want to talk about it? Honda referred to it as the Super Blackbird in numerous sales and marketing collateral. It's also the thing that people most frequently call it and search for, therefore I'm going to use that name.
Wrong, The Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird is a Honda motorcycle, part of the CBR series made from 1996 to 2007. The bike was developed to challenge the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-11 as the world's fastest production motorcycle,[9] and Honda succeeded with a top speed of 177 mph (285 km/h).[2][10]
Hi mate. I'm sure you've found this out anyway, but when I replaced the radiator with an aftermarket item cooling ceased to be a problem. Engine gave off less heat. We'll worth £120 on ebay. The carbed bike and FE bike have different radiator. C 😀
Now, I may be wrong but since changing Radiator and getting carbs rejetted I'm getting a few more MPG too? Fringe benefits eh? Maxton shock and fork rebuild planned for extra plushness! C 😀
I should have cleared that I meant at the wheel. Crank figures are great for bragging rights but it's power to the road that really comes through when riding.
Shorter vids would be fine . I really enjoy your well informed intelligent style . On a topic change ... As a Canadian who rides on the very wide roads here in northern Ontario I'd be crapping my pants riding those narrow roads you're on . I'd be expecting a moose or black bear like we have here to step from the bushes onto the road in front of me any second .
I did end up kicking a deer in the bum whilst doing an emergency stop 😄. But usually a squirrel or rabbit is the biggest thing that might jump out. Thanks for the feedback. Your compliments are appreciated, too. I'll definitely come back next year with a high/low mix of shorter and longer videos. Seems to be the way the wind is blowing.
As a former factory train Honda mechanic and avid Harley rider since 1978 I really enjoyed watching your Electra Glide experience in the desert . My 2004 Electra Glide Ultra has 109,000 kilometers on it now so to me it's like putting on a well worn jacket . So interesting to hear your impression of the experience through a fresh set of eyes . Living in the northern Canadian Boreal Forest region I find the American southwest a wonderful place to ride . Many of my trips there have been over 10,000 kilometers . Nice that you being from the UK had the chance to enjoy riding in the region I love so much .
It truly was an experience. One I certainly hope to have again. I'd love to do a multi-state trip on a Harley. As somebody who's always just ridden Japanese machines, there's something very compelling about the Electraglide. A Goldwing or FJR just wouldn't have been as much fun.
@@TheLoneTrader To a lesser or greater extent there's been something " compelling " about almost every motorcycle I've swung a leg over . The Electra Glide really is the "road sofa" experience .
@@robertrosicki9290 There are a few motorcycle I've ridden that were distinctly uncompelling, but they're few and far between! I tell you though, when I was riding through the the canyons, sun setting, mountains in the distance, AC/DC on the radio, Harley chuntering away - you could have cut me in half and there would have been an American flag 😄. Electraglide would be a nightmare in England though.
Longer videos actually if I ha dto choose. Shure I would love to get more videos from you, but the longer ones give me more then a couple of minutes on how a bike feels during a day
@@patdwyer6274 Thanks for the feedback. How about if I broke reviews up into smaller sections? Like: - Thunderbird specs and overview - Top 5 things I like about my Thunderbird - 5 things that irritate me about the Triumph Thunderbird - Thunderbird Sport buyer's guide Is that more appealing or just pointlessly cutting up a more informative video?
I am subscribed to quite a few channels so I may receive up to 10 notifications daily, therefore, I prefer videos of 15 to 20 minutes duration to make my viewing time manageable. Your lady looked as if she was doing very well for someone who hasn't been riding a bike for a while. We all get a bit rusty after a lengthy time off bike. Look forward to seeing more of your content.

I was seriously considering this as my first big bike after obtaining my full license but it went with the cb1100sf x11 from honda. In my opinion kind of a forgotten bike amongst the 90s muscle bike crew because it was kinda weirdly styled not really retro not really modern but it delivers exceptionally well when riding. Freight train levels of torque and a substantial amount of horsepower and with the fuel injection it makes it a (for me) superior bike than the zrx1100 xjr1200/1300 or the bandit. I would only consider the gsx1400 as an upgrade over the x11 since it has more retro styling and even more torque especially when you tune it a little. Would love to see a review on an x11 from you! They shouldnt be hard to come by and i'd love to hear a comparison to all the other muscle bikes. Enjoyed the video, cheers!
The X11 is an interesting bike. Very capable, for sure, but I think the unique looks made it a bit of an acquired taste. Glad you found a bike you love. I'd be up for reviewing one as an oddity. I get the feeling I wouldn't like it as much as a Bandito but living with one for a bit would make for an interesting experience.
Got a 2008 1250GT 6 weeks ago mint showroom condition Suzuki blue. Got it for real cheap 3000CAN dollars. Best bike i've owned yet. Use it every day if not hard rain. Already put 6k on it since. The torque makes me so happy, i have the MiVV GP exhaust on it. The snap crackle pop sound when downshifting or coasting after acceleration is second to none. 🏍️ You make a fely nice review and i envy you sound setup for the exhaust. Ride safe 👌
My 2020 Electra Glide has plenty of power, not like my 2017 Vrod muscle but enough for me to get around the DFW area, you’re not giving this bike much of a chance
Thank you for this great video. It brings back fond memories for me, of my own Carb'ed Blackbird. I liked that bike a lot and I think I want another one again in 2024.
Funny thing, I have been looking for one of these bikes and came across your video. I knew something looked really familiar at the beginning of the video. And when I seen you come down the road by the hospital I knew exactly where you were. I live in the same town. I will be checking out all of your videos!
Miss that countryside :( Which area would that be? Anyway, just bought a 91 one and, as you state, those on the 1,2-1,5 K range are in serious need of a cosmetic treatment. But, on the other hand, a good machine to learn some stuff about repairing and restoring. Beautiful content, congrats!
@@johnmignano7872 Thank you, John. That really means a lot. I do make errors in these videos but I do try my hardest to do the research and keep info relevant.
Running with the baffles out. Though a lot of the sound is actually coming from the intake kit. That makes a big difference to how it sounds to the rider.
Sorry it wasn't to your taste. As stated in the video, this is more a review of hiring an Electra Glide as a Harley novice. I got sent out to Nevada with work, so I packed my Helmet and GoPro to at least get some interesting video for people. There are loads of other videos out there for others looking to buy.
An excellent review. I'm in the market for a sports tourer. I toured in Australia on a Kwaka ZR7, and it had appalling cornering. Only when I owned a Fazer 600 did I realise how fun and smooth cornering can be. It seems to me the Blackbird might be similar on the tight country corners to my ZR7.
Nice commentary and review. Hope your 40mph wobble has sorted, mine won’t do that ever. But same with the fans here on my 01 Blackbird. I was thinking about changing the bike as I was looking for something more hooligan orientated, but give the Blackbird a change of mental approach, (£5) 6mm shock spacer, knee sliders on and decent tyres, it is a brilliant scratcher on A and B roads. Nothing comes close for value for money and adaptability to roles. Rectifier and stator issues can be solved, it’s only real weak point other than weight. I just love it.
I've never understood why anyone cares about the "dry weight" spec. Unless for the purpose of shipping costs where every gram costs money, I don't see how a "dry weight" spec is relevant. Under NO circumstances is a bikes engine power competing against a "dry" load that it's trying to move. I vote that we completely drop the "dry weight" spec as it's pretty much useless.
Valid point. Maybe fuel can make an appreciable difference, if barely. I also never like crank horsepower figures. They're not applicable to the actual experience on the bike. Maybe I should make a point of only wet weight and rear wheel HP figures.
If you change the front springs in the front forks you will get a much better ride and you can change the rear shock too . Õhlin's has fantastic components .
I bought a brand new Bandit GSF1200S in '01 and it was the most fun bike I ever had ridden . It wasn't the fastest or quickest , but it would take me anywhere I wanted to go and comfortable doing it . I put a couple of performance modifications recommended by my buddy that was a pit crew mechanic for the Suzuka GP Circuit for Suzuki . These mods woke this engine up with a Yoshimura carbon fiber exhaust system . Wish I never sold that bike . It was sweet ! Later on I bought a '02 Naked version and blew it up . I bought a new engine and modded the engine and it would wheelie any time I twisted the throttle . Loved this one too . Thanks for the video .
Not ideal, no. It's very heavy, tall and powerful for a first bike. Anything is possible but you'll have an easier and safer time on something a bit lighter and less powerful.
Come on mate, it's slower than most executive cars 😄. If you listen to what I say I'm very complimentary about the engine, but it's pretty undeniable that this is not a powerful bike.
@@TheLoneTrader lol, what power do people want on 2 wheels ? seriously ? I think my T-max 500 is more than fast enough, I mean for sane people it really is lol.
Second best honda ever first is nsr 400 2 stroke. Honda builds great 400 bikes. Had 75 400 four super sport in 78 loved it. Perfectvsoze and power for street. Anything bigger is ego cause a good 400 four is all you need for streets. If you race better bikes but for street anything bigger is wasted on 99% of riders as you would never reach a modern 400 fours limits and you know it, if you are honest. 600 and up is ego no where on street do you need 160mph bike. Lighter smaller is faster evetywhere but long straights
