Looks mint .I have a customer who changed their mind from using hardie lap siding and now wants board and batton but the entire shop that was built on 24 o/c so all I have to fasten to is 1/2 standard ply . How would you fasten ? smaller nails and a lot more 🤷♂️
The minimum between any hardie shakes is 1 1/2" I seen a lot smaller than that. Incorrect installation! I have been installing hardie for 35 years. This is a sham job. They will not cover the warranty!
The vent is self flashed (as in, it's flanged all the way around with a slope on the top already) Seal that flange to the envelope and caulk all the way around. It doesn't need a drip cap
Nice job I do it the same way and calk the seams in the field and squeeze the siding together so you don’t see that big flat calking after it’s been painted. We only use the 1/2 inch strips when it’s called out usually on the bay or in really wet locations but doing it that way is far superior to just slapping the siding on the wall.
@@TheDark_Sider What about that first piece of flashing, I see it’s in direct contact with the deck frame. Is that aluminum on ACQ or steel on ACQ… ? Anything come to mind? Guess once the copper in the treated lumber has reacted with the flashing material that secondary flashing won’t be as useless as I was saying. You were one step ahead of me … I’m sure you knew … silly ole nobody me
@bdubs8620 yeah I've heard all the scientists on tiktok dude. I'm a siding guy not installing the deck. Just shut up and move along. Nobody cares, same as 2 hours ago
@@JayyRodd Good question. If I'm not using my pump jacks, I normally run a ladder plank system. I'll just stick a 3 step at the bottom of the ladder and lean my pieces against the ladder. Short pieces I'll just walk up on my shoulder and stack on the plank
Finally someone that flashes B&B Hardie properly! This is the way I've been doing mine for 12 years. Our end dams look the same, but mine Doesn't have the nice looking 45. What is that bug screen material you're using above the garage door?
@wrenchingaround8112 appreciate that lots man. Glad to hear someone else has a brain too lol... I have a video on my page that shows the folds on the end dams!!
@wrenchingaround8112 People who can't figure out how to do it like this always say "It doesn't need a drip. Just caulking." When I know that every opening needs a primary dripcap
@@TheDark_Sider The Hardie and Smartside directions call for a drip cap and the "no caulk" space above. We seem to be the only ones not voiding the the home owners warranty! You have some great videos! I haven't put any siding videos up, but I've been wearing a go pro session on my hat and taking videos for around four years or so. B&B has been the hardest to install.
Your vids are short and sweet but very good !! Is that 2x material top and bottom and 5/4 on the sides ? Do you cut a little saw kerf on the underside of the sloped 15 degree sill ?
Yes the Header and Stool are 2x. The sides are 5/4 and the undersill is also 5/4.... I don't normally do a cut on the underside. 15 degrees is plenty to shed water. I think it looks ugly af.... On this shop, I was matching the houses trims, and they also didn't do one... I realize by posting on tiktok that not all share my opinion, and that's totally fine, lol. My Siding business thrives regardless of their opinions. And I've even started getting work thru social media recently. Thanks to people like you engaging in my content, so much appreciated Thanks for watching
Either you already know how to do Hardie Shake... Or you need to open your ears... And as far as being offended, can't help you with that. Try not being soft
“Long after you’re gone” is the correct term But big ups on that flash job, good shit…just had to redo my moms deck that contractor shit hacked the ledger directly through the siding with zero flashing 🤦🏻♂️
This video got 140 thousand views on tiktok. And you're the only one who said anything... I noticed while dubbing the audio, but I only do one take lol
I’ve never done any kind of siding myself. And I’m gonna attempt to side our ‘shed’ bedroom with the same stuff… I’m so intimidated! 🤣 but mostly poor…. So I gotta do it lmfao I’ve had the siding sitting here for over a year… I think it’s fair to say I’ve been putting it off 🤣 I subscribed, so teach me good! Thanks! Mel 😁👊
@@TheDark_Sider oh boo I don’t have a TikTok I have a hard enough time trying to do RU-vid, Facebook and insta. I used to be on everything then took a 10 year break from social media just to start over again 😳🤣 If I make a page over there I’ll def find ya. Might have to just so I can learn from ya 👊 Cheers!
@melissaandjason I have quite a few on here too. If you watched all 4 videos on this channel that pertains to Hardie Shake, you would have a decent grasp of it. Just remember to always stagger 16 inches (as shown in the video) And the latches will never line up. Picture the wall as a 16 inch grid
@@melissaandjasonAll your cuts will butt against trims. Anything in the field will be a factory edge. I like to notch with a skill saw and diamond blade. Always cutting from the backside. Firstly, to keep material clean and no scratches. Also, you can run your cuts past a quarter inch and your notches will just fall out. Hope this helps
I like the method but the only thing I see that could occur is the fasteners through the tyvek will not self seal like they would of there was a butyl based self adhesive membrane behind the ledger. For some of the best methods from one of the best go find Mike Guertins videos by Fine Home Building.
