This brings back some fond memories. I lived on the Seibu Ikebukuro line (between central Tokyo and Tokorozawa) in the late 80s, when the interior of the trains was completely covered in Lions promos and ads, just as their great dynasty was reaching its peak. Akiyama and Kiyohara were like rock stars to their many fans. My favourites were Hisanobu Watanabe, with his gorgeously smooth pitching motion, and Hiromichi Ishige, a slick-fielding third baseman and inspirational on-field leader. Thanks for a great video!
This is a super cool series! Your whole channel has really good stuff for someone wanting to learn more about NBP. My family is from Sendai and I wanted to learn more about the Eagles. Good job and hope to see more content in the future!
Actually, the number 18 being regarded as an ace number can also be traced back to the Kabuki Juhachiban, a set of 18 kabuki plays that are considered the best in Japanese history
For anyone wondering about the players who've played in the years since this video has gone out: Jefry Marte: B Mel Rojas Jr.: C Sheldon Neuse (active): F Johan Mieses (active): D
Can you do a video on the 2010’s Fukuoka SoftBank hawks. Like you did with the Bobby Magic Marines series but longer? It’s so hard to find footage of those elite hawks teams with yuki yanagita if you don’t live in Japan!
serious question: would any of these players make top 100 best baseball players of all time list? The only list with NPB player was from The Athletic in 2020: Sadaharu Oh was at 85. I wonder whats your opinion and what was the difference in class between best NPB and best MLB players?
Well, Matsui is good but not great. Ichiro is great. I think the top 5 would be very good to great as MLB league players. These were dedicated athletes and some American players didn't tear it up over there. Also, a shout out Cecil Fielder as a Tiger fan who had like one or two great season's over in Japan before signing with Detroit.
I'll always remember he clashed with umpires regularly in the way that footballers did in the European leagues and the FIFA World Cup. 😂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K47bS1RGaPQ.html
This sounds exactly like the "Japanese" team I used in Diamond Dynasty this year. The kicker is I also put the team in Osaka. I say "Japanese" because I had to stretch what counted and include Kyle Higashoka along with Korean, Taiwanese, Hawaiian, and Chinese players to help fill the roster down to what the NPB limits were on foreign players. So basically an NPB team if Japan kept their empire intact plus gaining Hawaii.
33:06 "Yappari boku wa gaijin datta." translated: "Of course it was because I am a foreigner." The fact that the press put "gaijin" (a semi-slur for foreigner) in katakana to emphasize the word really shows how much people were on his side. Good on them. Good for Bass for saying it as well.
