Hey all! I like horror movies... And I GUESS I like other things too. This is my new channel for movie reactions, I figured I'd stop confusing people with a big messy mix of music and film reactions. Make yourself at home! My main channel is @Yeedeed
hi hi!! at 50:21 the "you look familiar" could be because he went to school with hank, its really one of the only ways i could think of them possibly knowing each other, because hank doesn't really mention having a job or anything :P
That end scene could be good education film for police to show how NOT TO approach group of armed professionals among who there is probably murderer/-s.
During WW2 the average type vIIC Uboat carried about 45-50 crew. It might interest you to know those enclosed uboat hangars were built by the germans during ww2 to protect their boats from the RAF dropping bombs; those concrete submarine pens exist to this day, used by the french navy now. A ships asdic [radar] lost the signal when directly over the submarine until the allies transitioned to 'the hedgehog' from depth charges. A ship uses asdic to drop its charges over the submarine, contrary a ship can use its hedgehog to launch it's charges.
That ball scene gives me goosebumps every time! I'm 47 now, first saw this when I was 15. STILL scares the hell out of me! And I'm a Goth! One of the best horror films of all time!
Please React to ‘A Song For A Raggy Boy,’ ‘The Boys of St Vincent,’ and ‘Mysterious Skin.’ They’re all similar to this film and highly unexposed. People just don’t seem to care about us (male victims of CSA) and these films go against that ignorance. The first 2 are based on true stories but mysterious skin is not.
The author of the novel, Lothar G Buchheim, was a reporter on a submarine, like Lieutenant Werner, and has incorporated his experiences and those of other reporters into the novel.
I just love this movie all the characters and their stories and how well they are intertwined in and throughout the movie such a great director and direction of all of it... incredible job fantastic cast I just watched this again the other night.. definitely an all-time classic 💙💛❤💚💜
Scott Glenn took a ride on a real submarine (USS Salt Lake City SSN716) for his part in this movie. During a interview Scott Glen said he respected the Captain of the Salt Lake City (Captain Tom Fargo) and decide to base his character after Captain Tom Fargo... I served with Captain Tom Fargo and the crew of the Salt Lake City as a Sonar Rider during a West Pac.
In my opinion, Das Boot is a better anti-war movie than Saving Private Ryan. Because the latter kinda ruins the anti-war message with its ending by saying that all the suffering, hardship, sacrifice and pain the characters endured paid off because they managed to fulfill their task heroically. Das Boot delivers the exact opposite message. A bunch of man fighting and winning against impossible odds, heroically saving themselves, only to get absolutely destroyed upon arriving in supposed safety. That's what a true anti-war message is. War isn't fair, war isn't about heroes, it's just about slaughter and death on both sides equally.
To answer your question, no, there was no shower on board. There were only two toilets for more than fifty men, and not even enough fresh water to shave. So, taking a shower was completely out of question. Also, another aspect of the movie that you sadly missed because you don't understand German (I assume), is the sheer amount of accents of the entire crew. Johann (the ghost, diesel engineer) speaks with a Vienna accent, while the 2nd Officer (the red-head always making jokes) speaks with a Berlin dialect. It's a decent reference to the sheer diversity of the German Reich in the 1940s due to the drafted men coming from all over German-speaking territory.
Hey! Great reaction as always! I think you would enjoy “the cure” (1995). The two main characters are played by Brad Renfro (one of the child actors in sleepers) and Joseph Mazello. It’s quite emotionally heavy and could be classified as drama/coming of age. It’s a great and in my opinion way too underrated 90s gem. The acting and the pacing is really well done and it hits you right in the feels that way. I enjoy your reactions and way of speaking and would love if this movie got more attention. I don’t comment that often on RU-vid but I’d love to recommend this to you. (I only just subscribed to you on my account on my phone, I’ve been subscribed longer on that on my computer, only if you were wondering)
Do people most of the time not pick up on that? To me it seemed like there were plenty of clues, he stuttered while telling Keaton about it, and also Keating looked like he didn't believe him
@@mikewatchesstuff Several of the reactors I have seen missed the clues. …Or maybe it just seems like a lot because it is *_SO_* painful to watch them be happy for Neil, knowing what’s coming. I’ll have to review my watch history. I remember at least 2 for sure, anyway….
Okay- so far, found 3 or 4 that DID pick up on it. 5 or 6 who tookNeil at his word. The rest were ambiguous, silent on commentary, or skipped that scene.
The germans actually thought the max dive depth of a u boat was about 230 meters it was only later that it was discovered they could actually reach about 280 to sometimes even 300 meters. Most of the boats that had to go to that depth though were allready damaged in the first place which likely created weakspots and thus sinking them. I love this movie btw its like the LOTR of submarine movies
So am I the only one that had farting contest with my children. In my family we have pride in ours and even go out of the way to embarrass each other in public. There is nothing like ripping a loud one behind your kid in a crowded store and blaming them. It builds character.
convoys @ this time had a close up security around + within, but also some guys sweeping miles ahead + beside the convoy; in order not to allow enemy boats to come close enough for an attack. shure they tried to kill any spotted sub, but even if they didnt in the time the sub was forced to stay underwater + move slow, the convoy was gone far away
Best war movie ever... you can smell that boat.. what's funny is you end up hoping the nazis make it... BTw... there is a 5+ hours directors cut.. didn't get bored...
@@mikewatchesstuff That’s certainly true. I’v been playing the Fallout series for a long time , and now l’v been playing 76 all the time . The dart gun was the strongest.👍
Watch *"The Accused"* _(1988),_ with Jodie Foster. (53:31) Peer pressure _(direct or indirect)_ is a hell of a thing. I once entered a room, only to find six friends of mine in an attempt to commit a gang -a-e. I am in the happy position to write "in an attempt", because I stepped in and ended it, as soon as I saw what was happening. But, if you had asked me just one hour prior to that event, whether any of those guys would be capable of doing something like that - my answer would have been a resounding: "no! of course not! what are you even thinking!?" But...in a group, where one bad apple is the "strong" leader and the other _(weaker ones)_ are used to follow his ideas and example? And there wasn't even alcohol involved. Just six guys who decided to have some fun. And I'm pretty sure, if they had pulled it through, at least four of them would have felt very bad - afterwards. But, of course, that wouldn't have changed anything anymore.
I really enjoyed watching your reaction to the German film "Das Boot". One of the main actors, Herbert Grönemeyer, is also a fantastic musician. I highly recommend you check out one of his live performances. Since links aren't allowed in comments, you can find it by searching "herbert grönemeyer der weg english subtitles" on RU-vid. Thanks for the great content!
@@mikewatchesstuff well i have a special love for hell or high water, but honestly if you havent seen it yet i think sicario may be the way to go. Just found your channel today. Searched for wind river reactions last night, and then again today and saw you just dropped it. Really enjoyed your reaction, and ill be looking into your channel
Broke down the first time I saw this in theaters, broke down again in the car, and I break down every time I rewatch it or watch someone react to it. It never fails to hit me like a ton of bricks.
It's very powerful indeed. I don't cry very often, and the fact this one almost made me cry at the very end of the movie says something. I did fight it back pretty hard. You had a great choice of movie, this one will stick with you!
@@mikewatchesstuff It’s fine, it was well worth the wait! Glad you enjoyed the movie, it’s one of my favorite ones for when I’m looking for something deep
All quiet on the Western Front is WW I. To your repeated question for a shower: They had no chance for weeks to wash properly! There was no shower on a VII C, just 2 tiny bathrooms for nearly 60 personnel.
There's several things from the game actually. The Prydwyn, House (the owner of Robco Robert House), Frederick Sinclair representing Big MT (House jokes "Freddy you could lose money on a casino") in reference to the Sierra Madre. A few things to keep in mind that people have drawn conclusions to that aren't for sure. Vault-Tec dropped the bombs - We don't know if that's the case, in fact with how high up in Vault-Tec Barb was it's safe to assume she would have gotten word when it was going to happen so for her to allow her daughter to be at a birthday party when they dropped the bombs seems unlikely. Vault-Tec definitely made plans in regards to dropping bombs themselves, but that doesn't mean they actually did it in 2077 on the day the world ended, just that they had plans about it. Max's home of Shady Sands was nuked - This is almost impossible, considering he survived the destruction and climbed out of a refrigerator. If it had been a nuclear bomb that fridge wouldn't have saved him any better than it saved all the other skeletons yo u find in fridges (or ghouls). More likely they used conventional bombs in that case. Dane is a girl, or a guy - It's never mentioned in the series for a reason. Dane is referred to simply as they/them. There is a plothole because the Ghoul knew how to instantly kill someone in power armor so why didn't he kill Max in their first encounter? - (he was playing with him literally laughing through half the fight)
7:39 Old relatives told us that this was a ridiculous portrayal of the behaviour of soldiers. German soldiers actually had a quite strict code of conduct. Of course they let loose once in a while but never to this degree. Especially the vulgarity was not allowed or supported in any way. They were quite mad about the misrepresentation of the film director.
There is no better movie about submarines in combat during 2nd world war. 30.000 german submariners never returned home. 784 submarines got lost. Almost 2900 allied merchant ships were sunk and 30.000 seamen were killed. Fortunately those horrific times are gone. 01:05:37: Leutnant Werner quotes Rudolf G. Binding's poem "Schlacht - Das Maß "
@16:38 the partisans were the French resistance to the German occupation. A lot French women who slept with Germans were killed in public or humiliated (shaved, tar and feathered and stripped naked)
Sometimes almost funny how you sometimes didn't fully get*, that this was a sub in the middle of the war, when zero mercy existed anymore for all soldiers, for example: when they arrived in Spain** and the officers went to the ship with the luxury food and you said "I hope they are gonna have a nice meal for the rest of the crew as well" 🤭No, it was fighting till you die". Other things you asked yourself: "Why is the captain having so much compassion for the people on the vessel they just had shot minutes before, that is confusing me" 1. in reality it was really not like this, the real captains of the real WW2 submarines weren't that nice like in this movie here, some were quite correct (or nice) towards their own crew (and some even not), but they weren't nice at all for the "enemy" (excluded some rare exceptions) 2. Some old navy captains had really the oldstylish view how you treat correctly the enemy in combat: try to destroy rather only their ships but the soldiers/sailors only if necessary (like when they shoot) and like on land, where you make prisoners if possible and not just liquidate the enemy soldiers if you can, also at sea you rescue enemies after a fight if possible(!) As child, I was standing in the movie-set model of the sub, the thing you just saw here, in a kind of film museum in Köln. The set was built realistic with very limited space that the actors felt the horror of being locked up in such a thing. The camera man needed to create a unique special camera setup to move the big camera within this little space what created the feeling to be there with them. *makes you sympathetic **Spain, a kind of neutral country in WW2 that's why they could get supplies there, at least secretly, half accepted (roughly said)
... Hey man !!! You're the best reactor here (I saw 4 or 5 others, nothing like your good react. !!!) ... And I saw this movie when it came out ... (yes I' am old lol). I am french ... or german ? who knows ... I am french from Strasbourg (Alsace), the biggest town very near the german border, here we speak french or german it's the same (for the real guy from Elsass like me, no many left now, too many french here now) ... I speak french or german it's the same shit for me (now I am living in the south of France, here they call me "the nazy", what a shame and how I dispises these poor "french" who knows nothing about all this ... You know the last centuries we changed so many times from french to german, it does'nt matter ... All I know that until the years 1700 we were always like germans ... So I have a wish (a reaction), please do "The Thin Red Line" 1998, a movie from Terrence Malick, music from Hans Zimmer, THE BEST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN (near "Dear Hunter", but a little better, and for sure better than "Saving the private Ryan"), so many very good US actors like Sean Penn, Jim Caviezel, Nick Nolte, Adrian Brody, John Cusack, George Clooney (yes he is good), Woody Harrelson, John C. Reilly, John Travolta (very good during the few mn he had to play), Elias Koteas, John Savage (the guy from Dear Hunter), and so much more, women and japanese at their best ... It's a long Movie, very slow (a little too much flasbacks, but so good with an off-voice), very fast, all at the same time, very hypnotic, never really cool, always a little sad, funny some times, THE GREATEST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN (30 + times at minima) ... So much different ambiance (not so much talking), from phylosophical to brutal ... The only 2 poeple you'll follow during all the movie are Sean Penn and Jim Caviezel ... So you have to take the time to spot on each different actors (sometimes only 1 mn, dont be afraid lol) and I find Nick Nolte great ... The music does a lot, crazy "ambiance" some times ... Do it please !!! ... Or please do it ^^ .... Merci ...
Thank you very much for saying that my man! Also very cool to hear some insight from you about some of your life as a FrenchGermanish man lol. You know what? I actually have been meaning to sit down and record a reaction to thin red line. I believe someone else requested that one as well. I will try to get it up soon (in the next maybe month is what I consider soon).
@@mikewatchesstuff Oh thank you for this fast answer ... You'll see this movie cannot fool you, it's so real and unreal at the same time (poetic, beautyfull and brutal, ugly at the same time), sometime you want to laugh, and just after you'll have tears in your eyes ... And it's so hypnotic as a movie (and weird some time) ... And every detail is important, even a one mn scene from a great actor ... Great I'll follow you !!! Oh I forgot, the music is very important for the "ambiance" ...
The Partisans find out the girl has a German baby so what is the punishment?, the girl's life is cut short because she's gone over to the enemy so she's one of them now. When WW2 ended people thought that the fighting had ended but only officially for there was scores to settle like people who denounced (dobbed in) their own people and friends to the enemy. Their life came to a sudden end. The police forces in the occupied countries were far too busy with other things to worry about personal revenges among the population.
i couldnt believe it when i came across this reaction.. for the most part no one seems to have heard of it. i did see at the theater... i remember specifically because i friend i went with was eating m&ms, and when the glass busted out at the beginning, she screamed and her m&m's didnt make it lol... they were flying thru the air. rewatching a few times i felt the slow parts are very slow, but the scary parts are very scary... i can still my son but whispering Joesph. ok, thats no true, but his dad would wait until bedtime, bang on the wall and say it... so mean ... thx so much for the great reaction, it was nice seeing it thru a new set of eyes so to speak
Thanks for commenting and sharing your experience with the movie! You're right, there were some really slow parts, moments of scenes dragging on too long with no dialogue. If that had been made today, the run time would be significantly reduced.
Hey thanks so much for saying that, man! Yes, I do edit my own videos. It takes a really long time, and when I see comments like yours, it really means a lot. Thanks again, man!
@@mikewatchesstuff I understand. I do editing too. I noticed you mentioned you was 14 in 1996. I seen this film in 2005 when I was around 13 myself. It’s good you waited til now to watch it.
