Android Auto: Don't like Google Maps colours? Use Satellite View

If you use Google Maps with Android Auto in your car and don't like the colours - either the old or the new colours then use Satellite view. I think Satellite view also helps with the final bit of navigation allowing you to find the building or property that you are looking for 😀

Agree. I always use satellite view, and now with the new colours, I'll keep doing it. I'm not at all keen on the new colours, but obviously that's a personal opinion which many won't share.

I have been using satellite view for several months so I hadn't even seen the new colours until I recorded the clips for this video this morning. I am definitely sticking to satellite view 😀

I meant to mention in relation to previous videos regarding the display, if you use the 'compass' setting on the binnacle display, this then turns into a turn by turn display when using Google Maps - giving the same useful functionality that the Toyota maps gives when not using Google. I don't think I've explained that particularly well, but give it a go, it is a nice feature. Love the videos and appreciate the time taken to share your experiences.

Thanks for the comment ... I am glad you are enjoying the videos. I discovered the binnacle display of Google Maps' turn by turn instructions a while ago. I have got the head up display and I was trying to get the turn by turn instructions on the HUD. Toyota's satnav will display turn by turn instruction on the HUD but unfortunately its impossible get Google Map's turn by turn instructions on the HUD. Disappointing but as you say having turn by turn instructions on the binnacle dashboard display is very useful ... so not too disappointed. I want to produce a video showing the HUD but the big challenge is how to do it legally i.e. without the camera partially blocking my view of the road. The HUD is perfectly visible for the driver and can be adjusted up and down for different height drivers. Unfortunately a GoPro mounted to the left or right of my head cannot see the HUD display clearly. I have come to the conclusion that what I need is a pair of glasses with a camera built in to the glasses. The problem is how to get my prescription lenses in the camera/glasses .... when I figure this out I will do a load of videos about the HUD which I think is fantastic. I will (hopefully) never buy a car without a HUD in the future.
