After witnessing the tractor and it's condition and surrounds my guess is 17 to 18 years of sit time at the very least. Of course it was said the owner gave the information the plastic turning unit was the oil level stick. All of the electrical connections to the starter need removed and cleaned. She needs a snort of Cosby Sauce. The owner could tell a guess as to sit time. + or minus 5 years. Upon further inspection my guess is 27 to 28 years.

To be honest I've never tried it. Ill ask around though see if I can get advice, is it the one inside the chain cover or the gearbox input. I would say the bearings are generic and should be easily matched by a good bearing supplier.

Enjoy your video again. Not sure exactly what machine mine is. Very similar to yours. No wheels and only one swing door on back. Don’t know if I can get parts here in Pennsylvania. A slight leak on bottom of chain drive cover plate. Afraid to take off cover because I don’t know if I can get gasket. My problem is the Spade shaft is not turning freely. Not sure what’s causing that. Again any advice would be appreciated. Just subscribed. Thanks. I’m from Laois Originally. Great Soil there. My Father had nothing but David Browns on the farm. And a Howard Rototiller. Should have learned lots from him. He always Rototilled. Before Drills for Sugar Beets.
@davesworkshop2714
@davesworkshop2714 2 месяца назад
Great to hear from you Brian! I would assume yours is a 60 or 70 if it's single cover without the wheels. To be honest they are a far better machine as the 80s and above were more susceptible to the main rotor getting bent due to length, hence why they're cheaper to buy used. As for the leak, what oil are you using, it appears whatever you do they leak a bit. Also, you'd probably get a gasket made if needed. Given that it's cork it's probably safe enough to open.

@@davesworkshop2714 I don’t know if it had wheels at some point. I bought it about 6 years ago at a Garden center closeup auction. $2500. 😳. Maybe I can send you a video. Might be of help as to its age etc. with view of bearing also. If that’s okay 👌

I just found your Video. Enjoyed it. I’m Irish living in Pennsylvania USA. I Bought a Howard rotovator at an Auction about 3 years ago. I need to do some Work on it. There is no Wheels on it. I’m wondering if there should have been. 🤔. I don’t know if I can get Parts here. I have two David Brown Tractors also. A 770A. And a 1212. Just changed the Gear oil in the 770 Had to make a new Gasket for sump plate. The Rototiller is not turning freely. Not sure where to start. Any suggestions
@davesworkshop2714
@davesworkshop2714 2 месяца назад
Brian, id expect some resistance via the gearbox etc. An easy way to eliminate part of the drive train would be to pop off the rear cover on the gearbox and pull the gears. The first thing I'd be looking for though is barbed wire, high tensile fence wire or bailing twine after getting wrapped up between the end of the rotor and the bearing. You may have to remove the chain end to get it out though.

Dave, great video! I don't seem to need a geared starter, it spins fine. I have a 1980 Ford 3600 diesel, the three cylinder. Mine ran when I bought it, I ran out of fuel the first time I used it, and then it decided never to start again, I replaced the fuel and filters, bled the system three times, and it ran a bit. Now I am putting in a new manifold heater and looking at the injectors, which appear never to have been serviced. I'm told they are good tractors when they run. I'm almost there.
@davesworkshop2714
@davesworkshop2714 2 месяца назад
Those 3 cylinder Ford are gravity fed so they're an absolute nightmare to bleed. Any ones I've worked on have been torture, so that could be a lot of your issue. Look at my 4000 video and you'll see the pain I went through. I had no option but to resort to ether. A neighbour told me he filled his fuel tank and left the bleed open a few hours. Good luck with it and thanks for your kind comments!

Barry's video got me a little bit confused, actually it seems they are included in head gasket sets. I'm in france, so I'm ordering online, and most resellers don't even mention the brandt. I guess I'll have to order a set and see what I get... Any chance we get a video about restoring on the cheap a rusty/seized turbo like the one you got there? (I don't even know if that's possible) edit: I just dropped and cleaned the head (damn that thing is heavy!), there's no seal on any valve stem, so problem solved :)
