The Overhead Athletic Institute is the internet's first medically managed performance enhancement and injury prevention program for overhead athletes. Overhead Athletics was created by Ed Martel orthopedic physical therapy specialist and former professional pitcher with the New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers and Dr. Max Wardell DPT, CSCS, CAFS. This channel was designed to help overhead athletes maximize their kinematic sequence, throw as hard and as efficiently as they can, and avoid injury.
If you are looking to stay on the field and not in the doctor's office or for a competitive advantage we have you covered. Check out our website at overheadathletics.com to get started now.
I got this issue from having very weak rotator cuff muscle + golfers elbow and way to many barbell rows/ front lever calesthenics. My rotator and golfers elbow issues are almost completely gone but I still have a bit of impingement on the back of my elbow. Thanks for the videos nowhere else was I able to find help with this
This was freakin awsome. Thanks so much for uploading these. The 2nd workout was probably the most affective as most of my pain comes from that max wind up when you torque your shoulders for the actual throw.
My son is getting ucl repair with internal brace. You said 8 months recovery. Doc said 5/6. Do kids generally heal faster with this procedure? He will be 16. Thx
When we abduct our arm at 90 degrees abductions aren't we in 90 degrees of internal rotation too already? So shouldn't his starting position be 90 degrees of IR?
What is normal IR/ER at 45 degrees of shoulder abduction? And if we lift our arm naturally there withiut rotating anything, what rotation are we in is that zero degrees?

The avg reinjury after return to competition from Tommy John is 1.5-2yrs. This could be much higher if the root causes of the initial injury were properly addressed.
To help with load would you then say during leg kick have the player crossover with their leg kick versus straight up and down? I believe this would help, but then when teaching younger athletes to do this it becomes a little tougher as I feel this then throws their balance off and then changes the rest of the throw at various stages. So second question how would you teach younger kids to load there back hip/leg more while maintaining their balance on that leg?
Regarding question 1, it helps for some athletes while it causes other athletes to then open up early. Regarding question 2, I’ll have to make a video to demonstrate
It has been more than half a year, I am facing a problem,, whenever I hang my right hand there is pain in the elbow and the pain is behind the elbow, please suggest any solution to this and iWhat type of elbow pain is it?
After my first injury to my left shoulder in 2014, which resulted in a Bankart lesion, I underwent surgery and spent over 12 months recovering. It was a really challenging period. Now, I've sustained a new injury, a SLAP tear, and I am planning to try a conservative approach to healing. I will rest for the next four weeks and then begin rehabilitation.
I had 3 pops in my elbow while getting hit with a belly down armbar during jiu jitsu. I continued training that day because I had no pain. The following day it was stiff and sore. Now I have medial pain along my elbow/upper forearm with pain upon full extension or flexion of my arm or while palpating the area (3 days after injury). Sound like a UCL sprain to you? Im worried about a complete tear but literally the only symptoms I have are what I stated and I've had no bruising or swelling. Needless to say I will not return to jiu jitsu until the pain resolves. Thanks for the video!
I have been a very heavy lifter since I was 15, now 36 (including arm workouts), and have constantly had tendinitis/Tendinosis on and off on 1 arm since I started training. I always thought it was tendinitis, but now that I'm aware of Tendinosis, I believe it's that. I have started strengthening the tendon with resistance bands 5-6 sets a day and see an improvement as well as cross-friction massage at home. Do you have any other tips apart from what you say in the video? I thought of going for professional massage 2-3 times a week on my tricep, breaking up all that scar tissue and assisting in the tendon healing properly, or would the home cross-friction massage suffice? My physio tell me most of her patient's tendons on the triceps are thin and not very noticeable but mine are extremely prominent, defined and very developed,. She says I have the most prominent tendons she's felt and would be an excellent candidate for uni students to feel unequivocally what a tendon feels like :) Great video BTW!
You can massage your triceps at home too with a lacrosse ball. It hurts, but it works well for loosening up the muscle. I would also recommend blood flow work for the triceps and elbow. A few sets of light weight and very high rep push down sets of 50-100 reps.
This is BS just do Zercher squats and RDL'S and I'm done these exercises you show here are for shaping muscles and won't build anything stop lying isolations aren't needed unless you want to be a bodybuilder
2 weeks ago I woke up with right elbow discomfort focused on the point on my elbow. I figured it was sleeping on the arm awkwardly. We all have done that, right? The soreness lasted several days which is unusual because my elbow has never felt pain previously. When walking up the stairs as I pushed off the rail with my right arm, I heard a pop sound. That was about 10 days ago now. I noticed when I flex my elbow I can hear a "crackling noise" and when I flex my elbow I do feel pain. The pain is much more prominent when I flex my elbow. Any thoughts?
Thank you 🙏 my 12yo was “inconclusive” for LL Shoulder, but there was a growth plate discrepancy. 😢 Would love a video on the “back to throwing regiment.
