Welcome to Natural World Facts. I'm Leo, a Marine Biology undergraduate student with a passion for the natural world, a fascination with the deep sea, and a dream of working in the field of science-communication. This channel began as a passion project when I was 8 years old. Now, more than 10 years later, I'm still releasing fortnightly videos documenting a number of natural history topics, and I invite you to join me on my journey to discover all there is to know about our incredible planet.

Be sure to subscribe to be notified when I release a new video, and most importantly, enjoy. I hope you learn something new :)

4:06 All the members of the colony are descendants of a single fertilized egg, which in turn, develops into its various members. Isn’t that how we all develop? We all start out as a single cell that eventually becomes a multicellular body with different functioning organs and members?

Lmao A “living fossil” And creationists are the retarded ones huh? 😂 Ever wonder why all the fossils found never have anything different to show than what’s already currently existing on planet earth?

16:38 Note on this: the lack of sunlight isn't actually what causes the deep sea to be cold: it's the pressure. As the depth increases, the water becomes denser from the weight above it. As density increases, temperature decreases. Water's density maxes out at 4°C: cooling it further actually increases it's density as it freezes (ice floats on water because it's less dense). Thus past a certain depth, temperature doesn't really change, it just sits right around 4°C all the way down!

If life can exist that deep in our oceans, independent from the photosynthesis cycle, it can surely exist on other planets!!!

I love the naming convention used here 😅. Vampire Squid from Hell. Sounds like something you'd want to stay well away from or run like hell from, don't it? Human beings are MUCH nastier than them. Considering how inoffensive these shy guys are, I'd want to keep them safe too.

Imagine being a tube worm. All your life, living off fart flavored bacteria, or, at least, the bacteria inside you lives off the farts from the Earth, and the bacterium keeps you alive, too. Always in the dark. Can't even defend yourself from a dumb old crab. Oh, and then one day the Earth leans to the other side to let the farts out somewhere else, so you die because, like a Redditer, you can't live without inhaling farts every day.

I'm always suspicious when billionaire business people like Eric Schmidt (former Google CEO) and his wife start such enterprises. Yes there is a lot of great scientific discovery from it, but what are their less altruistic business motives? And could that cause detrimental effects to nature later on. I can't bring myself to trust billionaires like the two that started SOI. Too bad our governments don't throw this much money and resources into scientific research, we could achieve so much
