We used to go to the boat races when i was a young fella, And was always just Grouse to watch Aggresor and Stampede race across the water at high speed.
@@pagano126 yeah mate I bought a new spark plug for it this morning from repco and bought a cheap car sponge to cut a filter out of because I pulled it apart and the filter was like sand I asked my father he said it has not been started for 10 year so hopefully new spark plug drained fuel tank new fuel give it a few pulls see if she might come alive and Il make a video
I drove a red 1984 1.1 in nz 2002-2005. Blue smoke came out of the exhaust pipe, but it was still reliable. It probably needed a new engine or an overhaul.
A lot ended up being smokey, usually valve stem seal failure is the most common cause. Mine had a top end overhaul at some stage. It ran well and not smokey at all.
Thanks for sharing, this was such a nice trip down memory lane. I was obsessed with the BA Astina and as soon as I could, I bought my first one in 2001 (red, 1996 1.8 4cyl) and then bought the V6 model, exactly the same as the one in your video. I still think they look amazing to this day. Do you still have this one? Watching your video I can remember mine like it was yesterday, and that unique sound of the frameless doors opening!
Thanks for your interest in it. It definitely was a lovely car to own. I sold It not long after the video was made around 2020. A couple from regional Victoria brought it that had wanted one when they were new. My goal is to find a bg astina! The previous model with pop up headlights. I'd like one in turquoise and preferably an sp model. They exist but not easy to find.
У меня такая машина была в 1997-2001. Самая лучшая машина которая у меня была в молодости. Я бы и сейчас купил себе такую. Это по сути мазда 3 или мазда фэмэли 1984года выпуска
My mechanic at the time replaced it during the roadworthy inspection. The original muffler was worn out. I think he used someone on the Mornington peninsula.
They're well loved those suzuki two-stroke engines. I'm holding out for a Briggs's and stratton two-stroke powered masport that my dad has had from new but hardly used.
Definitely we made some amazing machinery here. Although this machine was tired and a bit smokey, it still functioned well. I sold it to a friend who wanted it more than me. You can't have them all I guess!
@raypurchase801 Most definitely. It is running an 1100cc austin healey sprite engine. It has an early model Holden radiator mounted up front. It is one of the earliest sports sedan's to have raced in New South Wales
My neighbour had one when I was growing up. I always remember the noise and the sparks when the blades would sometimes touch concrete. We had a 70 series Victa and after that, masport with a two-stroke briggs and stratton. I'm in the process of buying a battery powered mower for my parents as they are now in their 80s and struggling to start and push the masport.
@Adammrtl27 it's not something I would add to something of this vintage. I don't mow the lawn with it and I'm more than aware of the potential danger when running the engine
What I tell people who don’t understand the difference between the sound of the two engines( 2 stroke vs 4 stroke)I say one sounds like a mower and the other sounds like a weed wacker. Now this changes that 😂 😂😂
Just a great looking car & still is today! This must have been the last of the "original" TX3's in KC form, as the KE were released later in '87 with the twin headlights and the motor upgrade from the SOHC 1.6 to the DOHC 1.6 & then of course, the famous TX3 Turbo 4WD. Very expensive in their day, hence their rariety now. How many klms on this KC? It looks like very low klms?
The car had just under 290,000 kilometres when I sold it back to it's original owner. She had owned it since it was five years old. I purchased it from her and cleaned it up and returned it to roadworthy condition. It has never been crashed or had any paint repairs. One very original car and a pleasure to drive.
Fantastic little car, always wanted a yellow "S" when I was young. Got to love the extra 6 kw that came with the Twin Carb engine ; ) The reverse opening bonnet was and still is one thing that I cannot figure out the benefit of....
It took me ages to find one. The reason I went looking was for nostalgia. My first car was identical except for the year of manufacture. One plus for having a reverse opening bonnet is that it won't suddenly fling open if the catch fails.
@Aus80sRockRadio I'm thinking the most important reason is accessibility when working in the engine bay. You don't have a bonnet looming over your head.
They make a bit of a mess. They throw grass everywhere. I mainly just start it up every now and then since I finished preserving it. There are plenty of videos of people mowing with them .
The engine looks like it has the carb and supercharger inlet upside down. I don’t think I’ve seen a setup like that before. Lovely to see a real Merlin with all its compressor system on and not a Meteor detuned one.
It looks to me that you need to get someone who knows how to properly set up the carbs on that engine. I just recently went for a fly in a Spitfire and it wan't farting and blowing unburned fuel like that out the exhausts. Yes on start up you get a cloud of oil smoke but immediately settles down. Yours is unburned fuel. Look at the exhaust ports... black. It should be running on 100 octane if it is a Merlin and the ports will burn white if correct. Get it sorted or you will F%$K it.
Hey Mate, I did not know you had a channel. I just showed this to Arabella and said “hey look it is my mate, who doesn’t have a TV but has a lot of cool vehicles. Your family should just be happy that I am not putting this on their lake”. Wifey gave me a dirty look haha. Happy New Years David
@@pagano126 nice to know ya, I’m David’s Mate in the states. David has been a good role model and bad influence on me. My wife and I live in the mountains of Idaho and I do the same thing David does. Nice to know you and cool video. You need to get more footage of his toys. Does David have a channel?
