Welcome! When we moved to Georgia we knew it would be hard for friends and family to keep up with our lives so we decided to turn to RU-vid. We decided to record what we are up to for our friends and family and hopefully you all enjoy it as well. Since we started the channel we have bought multiple campers, explored several states, done numerous home renovation projects, became empty nesters, and sold our home. Now we are just wandering around in the camper and trying to figure out what is next. The long term plan is to find land. As we travel the country in our camper we will explore and decide what state we want to ultimately end up in. Then we can figure out how to transform the property into our dream home. Stay tuned for lots of hard work and hopefully a big ol barn and some animals. You can also follow us on Instagram at JS_Just_Simplifying. We hope you enjoy and if you have any questions feel free to ask!
Yeah, putting it simply in reality that gas truck is far more reliable than the power stroke. There’s so many things that can go wrong and it ain’t just deaf. It’s the CP three pumps that have grenade 1000 engines hammered main bearings because the crank is just too small for the amount of power And if you outside of the towing gear even 10,000 pounds you’ll destroy the main bearings overtime. Ford realized when they started forcing these V6 TwinTurbo on people back in 17 they had made a huge mistake because they lost 20% of their base over to other platforms, and since they only had the coyote, they were severely lacking, and here they are back with a plain old pushrod there’s a reason his maintain the pushrod for so long because it’s a money maker and it’s extremely reliable, especially the hemi. I have a 5.7 hemi and I tow over 10,000 pounds with it but when it’s empty, I guess 19 to 20 miles to the gallon on the freeway . It’s unfortunate that Ford had so much problems with their other large gas engine that they had to come out with the 73 because it got better mileage, unproduced almost as much horsepower and torque
I used that devise too and worked great. You also need to get the valve lube as well. That can also help a lot. You pour in in the drain and open and close them to get in on the parts the seal onside the valves
We have been using the Odorlos powder that has lubricant in it. But been thinking about buying the Thetford treatment/lube just for that reason. Two of the three work great now. That third one may just be the valve itself. It’s also the kitchen grey tank so could be bits of food debris stuck in the valve opening as well.
Late comment. Nice little trailer. My first mod would be to reverse the swing of the fridge door. It should open with easy access from the "kitchen" area and table.
No. I prefer the fixed. I believe they come with the Lariat Ultimate package unless you get the Sport Package as well. The Sport Package over rides it to the fixed. I specifically asked the dealer about that because I was going to have them delete the power running boards if I needed to.
First Time Viewer...Great Video! Your comments, statements and explanations pro and con are excellent! I have owned several diesel trucks in the past used to tow gooseneck trailers - horse trailer, stock combo trailer, flatbed trailer. Decided to go with a gas truck after the introduction of the Ford 7.3L godzilla. However, I waited until the third year and purchased a 2022 Ford F350 Lariat 7.3L 4WD Tremor.I live in the Rocky Mountains and I have only owned SRW trucks because DRW trucks are absolutely worthless in mud and snow. Virtually all of the ranchers mostly have SRW trucks with a few DRW trucks for highway towing. Some guys tow some very heavy loads with SRW trucks with added air bags and helper springs. I like the exterior aesthetics of the 2017 - 2022 Super Dutys the best. However, I do like the interior of the 2023+ trucks with the exception of the digital gauges. Some Additional Comments pertaining to your video ---------> 1. @4:56 - LED Roof / Cab Clearance Lights - Some guys don't like 'em, but I think these lights look great on the SRW trucks! At dawn, night or dusk...people know it is not an F150 approaching...but a truck that can do "truck things"! The first accessory item I added to my SRW truck was the Ford Marker Lamp Assembly - Part Number HC3Z-13A613-C. Like the Roof / cab Clearance lights, this marker light is DOT required on DRW trucks...but the Rear Marker Lamp Assembly looks great on a Ford SRW truck, especially if the truck is equipped with the LED Roof / Cab Clearance Lights. The combination of these lights looks cool on an SRW truck. A. The 2017 - 2021 Ford trucks have the small 8" infotainment screen. 3. @ 6:50 - For several reasons, the Ford Super Duty is a way better choice than a Chevrolet or GMC Heavy Duty. Ford's design and engineering for a TRUCK is far superior! Ford has much better drivetrain, Approach Angle, Breakover Angle, Departure Angle. Furthermore, the aftermarket has a plethora of high-quality suspension accessories and options for Ford trucks that are not available for GM 4WD trucks, mainly because of the design that utilizes IFS axle and low hanging frame rails. 4. @ 7:10 - Absolutely Correct - "Ford just nailed it with this layout!" Without a doubt, Ford has the BEST interior ergonomics on trucks! The "comfort level"...console and doors...exactly correct. In addition, the heat and A/C vents are in ideal locations. All of the knobs and buttons are well thought out and placed. GM has their 2H, 4H and 4L knob on the left...not ideal. In addition, the shift selector on GM trucks gets in the viewing way of their large rectangular infotainment screen. Simply put, Ford engineers a superior truck in numerous ways! 5. @ 14:06 - Towing - really liked your comments and information on three (3) different trailers. Completely Agree...I miss the exhaust break on diesel trucks. All of my previous Super Duty trucks had the longer wheelbase with 8' bed. I prefer the shorter wheelbase and tighter turning radius and do not miss the long bed because I have trailers to haul stuff when needed. In addition, I have not noticed any meaningful difference in ride quality. Buy extended warranty, about 27 to 35k miles they will be pulling the cab to fix cam phaser. Funny how the after market kit just eliminates it, but under warranty they replace with stock and yes you will be back to the dealer. I had 2018 and a 2020, stopped buying fords. Cam phasers has been an issue since 1994, and yes the 7.3 gas has it. Truth is, all manufactures have issues, sometimes you luck out and get a good one. Most of them dont show issues till outside the 36k mile basic warranty. Buy what you like cause this is a very nice truck, i my self got burned. My truck was actually on the lift with the cab off, engine torn apart, i walked into nissan, sight unseen traded it in on a titan xd, they didnt bat an eye. Gave me more than i owned and that truck was sold same day they put it out. I wss upfront honest and they called ford to confirm truck was there getting fixed. Only issue i have had with my xd was the soot sensor went out. Other than that 1st year towed 10k lbs every weekend. Last year and so far this year commuting and random towing. I also drive it enough to kick in regen once a week. But i do like your truck, its beautiful.
I researched the cam issues early on. Seems like outside of the vans, rv, and commercial setups it is pretty rare. The more time the engine idles seem to increase the chances from what I've seen. But I do agree, we already plan on buying an extended warranty before the factory one runs out. We should be under 10k miles a year so a ten year warranty should cover us pretty well.
Just took a trip to Kentucky that was about 300 miles each way. I checked just before we got into Red River Gorge area and we were at 17mpg for the trip. By the time we hit the road to come back home it had dropped to 15. But that was a lot of stop and go through towns in the RRG area. Plus doing a lot of work on our property. Forgot to check final round trip number when I got home though.
I own my own company and have had a very large variety of high end personal trucks and I’ve always gone right back to my gasoline engines as far easier to maintain. The diesel gets 5-7 mpg better than gas but also takes far more expensive maintenance (14 quarts of oil) and with all the needed diesel restrictions and future pricey repairs it’s just not at all needed for what your use of the truck is. In addition, not every gas station has diesel so you did great! 👍🏻 HIGHLY RECOMMEND Amsoil Signature series for ALL your fluid needs as I’ve been running a couple of my personal trucks with extremely high abuse and zero failures all attributed to Amsoil Signature Series. Good luck and God Bless
@@JustSimplifying Oil and Lubricants ----------> Check Out Schaeffer's - St Louis since 1839. Schaeffer's Oil has some proprietary ingredients that reduce soot build up around the valves and on top of the pistons. In addition...and this is a big one...I highly recommend using BG Products and Services AND / OR Wynn's Products and Services. Both have Special Equipment than can Flush and Fill (instead of Drain and Fill). I have previously owned several diesel pickups...towing goosenecks - horse trailers, stock combo trailers and flatbed trailers. I now have a 2022 Ford F350 7.3L Lariat 4WD Tremor. Extremely Pleased with the truck! Flush and Fill the Coolant...gets all of the old coolant out of the engine block, heater core, etc. Flush and Fill the Power Steering. Flush and Fill the automatic transmission (10R140). Keep in mind there are several people that are strong against Flush and Fill and only service with the Drain and Fill method on automatic transmissions. I and other guys strongly disagree with that opinion. However, I would not Flush and Fill any automatic transmission above 75,000 - 80,000 miles on the odometer which is under the 100,000 miles recommended by the experts...maintenance / repair shops, BG Products, Wynn's, etc. The 10R140 behind the 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel and the 7.3L godzilla is in fact 'serviceable'. The fluid transfer machines used by BG Products and Wynn's require different adapters for the various automatic transmissions. Ford states the 10R140 is sealed with "lifetime fluid" and does not need to be serviced. I do not care what the engineers purport, I completely disagree with that viewpoint. Anyone with basic knowledge of physics understands thermal activity (heat) is the death of mechanical systems, tires, etc. There is no such thing as "lifetime fluid"...at some point, thermal activity will breakdown and degrade any and all fluids, including Amsoil products. I'm not against Amsoil products...just not for me as I cannot justify the additional cost since I will still service via Flush and Fill more frequently than recommended by Amsoil. Quality Filters are very important. I would recommend using only two types of oil filters for the 7.3L godzilla -------> Motorcraft FL-820S .....OR..... Ford Racing CM-6731-FL820. In addition, I would not purchase either filter from Amazon or eBay since there are some counterfeits from those sources.
After owning a 2016 Powerstroke, I'll never own another modern diesel. The DPF system is an absolute nightmare, and maintenance costs are crazy. I traded it in for a 2022 Godzilla, it's been great so far, with plenty of power.
Good looking truck, one thing you said I don’t understand was if my 5th wheel was 10k pds id go to diesal???, they make half tons to pull 10000 pds , why you be scared to pull a 5th wheel over 10k with a f350?
I wouldn’t be scared to pull a 5th wheel over 10k. But a third of the miles we have done have been towing. So if I had even more weight pushing me down hill, the transmission shifting would annoy me too much. So at that point I’d prefer the diesel exhaust brake. Also, if we towed just once in a while I’d be fine towing heavier. But I want this truck to last a long long time. So pushing its limits all the time isn’t the best way to make that happen. Just like your point about half tons towing 10,000 pounds. Yes they are made so they can, doesn’t necessarily mean you should.
Yup. Sold our house last summer. Will be building in Kentucky over the next few years. So I will be pulling some skid steers, mini excavators, and dump trailers with it. But that will just be from rental company to the property.
Unfortunately I’m not at retirement yet. But the truck has to last me until then. I’ve got about 8 years til I call it wrap on a career. Will still have to work but just not at the level I am now.
I have 4.30’s in my 2020 7.3L and I usually get around 10 MPG just driving around town. BUT, I drive it like I stole it, AND, I knew that was gonna be the case when I bought it. I didn’t buy it for “Fuel Mileage” it’s a truck, none of them are really fuel sippers. 😂😂
@@DanMar5858 Agreed!! If I wanted a truck with good gas mileage I would have got a half ton with a 3.0L diesel. But I wanted a big ass truck that does whatever I want. And I drive it accordingly. So most people will get better mpg than me.
Just as a comp... I have a '21 F350, 7.3l gas with 3.73rear & tow a 8400# tt. I leave mine in tow/haul but use the +/- on the shift lever and gear down manually when going up or down hills. Towing thru the hills & mtns of the Pacific NW, I rarely use the brakes going down hills regardless of length or grade. I may have to 'stab' them a few times on rare occasions. Over 12k of towing I have averaged 10.3mpg's. Worst was 7 in a head wind, 13.6 on a very flat road with a speed limit of 50mph.
Yeah next time I tow through mountain areas I’m going to try the manual shifting. Was hoping the computer would do a better job but oh well. And as far as mpg, I’m not the best to compare to. My driving habits are not the most fuel efficient!
I've got a 22 lariat with the 7.3. When towing down mountains, i just shift to M and put it in the gear i want to use. Otherwise it will go into 2nd gear and rev the hell out of the engine.
Yes it does! I was looking at trucks six or seven years ago and mapping out how much I needed to save up. Figured at the time I'd get a truck in three years or so. Boy was I wrong.
Hate to tell you but that truck won’t last until you retire. It’s a Ford! I had one and it was in and out of the shop. Each time costing anywhere from one to eight thousand dollars. After 150,000 miles I had enough.
I hope you are wrong. I also hope to retire before this truck has 100,000 miles on it. And it sucks you had so many issues with your truck, but you can find owners of any brand that had similar experiences. It's a crap shoot unfortunately.
Plenty of GM trucks in and out of the shop for warranty work and repairs after the expiration of the warranty. Unfortunately, nowadays...ALL BRANDS have problems from A to Z...little items to big problems with engines and transmissions. Just a few years ago, GM dealt with a GIGANTIC Class Action Lawsuit with their 8L90 (8 speed) automatic transmissions...tens of thousands of units had problems on these transmissions used in pickups and large SUV's. Furthermore, two to three years ago, GM had issues and problems with lifters delaminating on the 6.2L gas engine.
@@MrC9Oh3 Nothing Wrong with the Ford 6.7L after installing some upgrades, mainly adding the S & S Diesel Disaster Prevention Kit. That item is a must to prevent a full fuel system failure and a $12,000.00 to $15,000.00 repair bill. In addition, S & S Diesel offers their DCR Fuel Pump which is a long lasting high-quality unit that replaces the Ford CP4 Fuel Pump which is total junk! The Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel has proven to be a reliable and durable engine...if properly maintained AND with some superior aftermarket part upgrades. The Powerstroke Tech Talk with Arod - RU-vid Channel has ALL of the information a guy needs to keep his Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Diesel Engine...and truck in top notch condition and long lasting performance!
@@MrC9Oh3- Right?! You get the “Pleasure” of Paying $12k for a Diesel Motor option on a Brand New Truck that needs Several More thousand $$ just to keep it from blowing it self apart. What a joy!! Hahaha!!!
There is a update for your transmission TSB free from the dealership takes about half hour is has to do with the computer update if you didn't know already. Nice truck safe travels 👍
Good to know. I knew there was a recall on it that I've been meaning to get done. That is just for the rear view camera though. I'll definitely be asking about the transmission TSB now!
Ive got a 22 with the 7.3. Pushing 30k miles, half from towing. Came from a duramax. I feel about the same as you. It is a great truck. The biggest con for me is towing. It has the power, but being gas wants to get up high in the revs. The downshifting in tow mode is annoying. And if you have cruise set on interstate, mine will down shift 2 gears if it drops 2 mph below set speed. That is very annoying, why not drop one gear to attempt to recover. I typically put in manual and babysit it when towing heavy on interstate. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
I had the same issue (downshifting 2 gears at a time) with my '21 7.3 Godzilla towing a 8400# tt.. Coming back home from a 4k mile trip and going thru a lot of hills & a mtn pass I figured it out. A semi was ahead of me was dropping gears and remembered way back when I spent a small bit of time driving a semi that you need to stay in the torque range, which on a semi is about a 200-400 rpm drop takes you out. I started down shifting a gear at a time with the manual gear selection ( + & - on the stock) while still in Tow/Haul; as my rpm's would drop to stay in the 2500-3200 rpm range on small hills & 3500-3800 on the long steep ones. Works so much better and less issues with the sudden down shift of two gears at a time.
I have a 24 Rapid red, first red truck I ever bought. I typically get white, silver or gray and I also thought is red too much, but it grew on me and I’m extremely happy with the color and the truck to all your points
I ruled white out right away. My last few company vehicles were white and I started noticing half the cars on the road were white. Then half the trucks and SUVs were blacked out. I loved the Velocity Blue and was planning on that but then they got rid of it for 2023. So red won out.
Jeff bro the hair cut looks killer man… No longer looking like Jesus whom I love but now you look like MMA dude! I think twice before messing with you man! Not into RED trucks until yours lol.. Seriously that F350 Sport RED looks Ferrari, absolutely stellar🏁But guess what, I see you getting a Diesel lol ….I’m owner of a F150 2.7 and tow our TT Grand Design 22mle … But see myself in a Diesel F250 XLT or Duramax GMC Elevation 3/4 … Shout out from Miami, FL..
Ha. Thanks man. The GMCs do make it a tough decision. They look good and the Duramax is a great engine. I'll give you props for towing anywhere near Miami. I hate driving down there when I'm not towing! Can't imagine pulling a trailer through there.
By the way anyone contemplating an F-350 vs and F-250 - my two cents - get the 350 every day. No brainer. My payload is 4069#. I think the equivalent 250 is like 3400. Payload is important. There ain’t a hill of beans much difference between them except for stiffer / more springs. Yes it rides a little stiffer. But I’ve never been in an F250 that I thought rode “soft” compared to my 350. In my home state of Louisiana they don’t make you register it commercial and I didn’t have to insure it commercial either. So it costs me as much as a 250 to insure and register. I think the upfront cost is maybe $400 more? I honestly forget. I remember researching before purchase and after I found out about registration and insurance I quit looking at the 250’s. Not sure about 250’s but an additional coat for the 350 was a I have a 3” receiver hitch. It is massive rated for towing. Everything that size costs more too so beware. But my boss just saw me about to hook up to his dump trailer and he saw the receiver on my truck and he said “oh that’ll do!”
That is exactly why I went for the 350 over the 250. The cost difference was in that $400-500 range. I'm with you, I don't see the point of the 250 unless a state requires different registration status or something. And if the ride is that big of a deal to someone, they may as well get an F150 and a smaller camper.
What gearing did you get in the axles??? I love the video, but they never say what gears they ordered in the axles. Axle gearing greatly affects fuel mileage and towing.
Definitely the smart thing to do. And I know it's protecting my investment but I'm just not a fan of the look. That's the advantage of a blacked out truck. You wouldn't notice it as much.
This is true...mine is the magnetic metallic. But Think it would blend good with your grill...my last truck was a blue color and I Said the same thing about the look, but it sucked when I started getting rock chips in it. So I got the bug deflector for my current truck and surprisingly I really like the look.
Are you sure you forgot the scales option or was it not available when you placed the order? Same thing happened to me, I thought I merely overlooked the option then later learned it didn’t become available until late in the 2023 order process.
When I did the build it showed it as an option. Then at one point when I was going back and forth on options, I started from scratch with the build. I assumed I missed it then. But maybe they had removed it in that time frame. I know that was one of the items that could add a lot of time to the orders.
My 2023 F250 7.3 gas has been in the shop for 2 weeks now, they can't seem to fix the rear axle noise that developed over only 10,000 miles. Finally diagnosed and said it needed replacement pinion and carrier bearings (which I would have guessed). They replaced those parts and now say it has a new noise and they are tearing it all down again. I bought heavy duty F250 to replace my 1/2 ton Toyota Tundra because I thought it would be safer and more reliable towing my 6500 lb camper. Seems that may have been a mistake. Love the 7.3 engine though....
@@JustSimplifying literally one hour after I wrote this the dealer called, truck was ready. No more axle noise, its very quiet now, only that sweet V8 sound and some tire noise, so here's hoping. I really do like the truck. Expecially that 7.3... Enjoyed your review by the way.
I understand thinking a truck is meant to have an 8 foot bed, but most people refer to it as "standard" because it makes up the majority of the orders. It's rare to even find the long bed on a lot without special ordering. Then with the half tons trucks some of the manufacturers have a 5.5" bed, 6.75" bed, and the 8 ft bed. So just depends on your perspective.
@@JustSimplifying didn't mean to sound critical. Just something that amuses me and most people probably agree with you. I might even agree in a half ton truck. But if that were a dually, where you can only get the 8' bed, you would have to call the 8' standard. I think the 6.5' has become far more popular due to the crew cabs becoming the biggest seller. My crew cab combined with my 8' bed makes for a long long truck. My kids tease me about my 'land yacht", LOL. I love it.
@@poundsonwood If we had a set home base and just used the truck for towing to a campground I would have went dually. But when we bounce around to various places it would be such a pain getting into town and finding parking spots. If we didn't have dogs I would love a standard cab F450. I love the looks of those things!
I have the XLT version of your truck. We pull a 35' 5ver at 15K Lbs. 4.10 gears. We get 8.5 MPG pulling the camper all over the southeast and Midwest. I wouldn't trade it for a diesel and it's headaches. Mountains are not an issue. Going down a steep grade takes some practice. The software does need a little tweak for grade shifting but it does a pretty good job. I find the more i drive in the mountains the better it drives because I'm more familiar with what the truck will do especially going down a grade.
Yeah I figure half the problem is just me getting better at knowing the truck and how to use it properly in those few situations. The diesel exhaust brake is just kind of like a cheat code. Makes things way easier. But obviously not easy enough for me to think it's worth the extra money and maintenance costs!
Ford has the best exterior design. However, the clown bar graph main gauges are a joke. Ford needs to hire Porsche or Honda instrument designers if they can't figure out how to do functional gauges that's actually useful without looking like they have no clue what they were doing!!!
One of the things I liked on the Ram was that even though they had the huge center screen, the gauges were actually standard needle gauges. Silverado was like that for 2022 as well but the new interiors of theirs went all digital screens too.
@@JustSimplifying There are many advantages to a pure analog gauge over digital or even hybrid gauges as Ford has done with the bar graphs with digital numbers in the middle! • They are far more easier to read than digital gauges as you only hace to get a sense of the relative needle position on the dial face and you'll know approximately the speed of the vehicle or engine speed without actually looking at the exact numbers!!! • They are faster reading under all lighting and environment conditons compared to digital gauges! • They are just better looking and creates a more comfortable environment for the driver without creating distractions and ease driver fatigue on long road trips!!! • Porsche has one of the best instrument designer team on the planet and look at how clean their instruments are on all their cars!!! • Aircraft instrumentation and even military vehicles all have clean analog instruments for ease of communicating the information to the pilots and drivers!!! • What Ford has done with their new instruments is actually takeing 4 steps backwards as it is worse compared to their old analog gauges they use to have in all the SuperDuties!!!!
Hey! You e got great taste as I got the same truck/engine combo as you. Although I did spring for the Tremor package. You noted about fuel tank size…I installed a TransferFlow 58-gal tank. They finally came out with a gas version. About $4k installed. My range is about 750 miles now with that thing. And when it’s full, the ride is so much better from an SD truck.
We debated on the Tremor package. I figured since the truck was mainly for towing and I have the Jeep for off roading, I was better off saving the money on that one.
I have a 2023 F350 7.3 4.3 gears short bed towing 5th wheel that's about 13-14klbs and I got 7.7MPG. Range totally sucks because of the 34gallon tank. I plan on upgrading to the Diesel long bed for more range. Thank goodness for RV life app so I can scout gas stations to see if they have RV pumps. Getting gas in normal pumps is a pain in the ass.
Pilot/Flying J has a pdf you can download that shows which stations have dedicated RV lanes. I created a Guide in my Apple Maps that saves them. I check the satellite image to make sure it's easy to get in and out and if it is I add it to the list. Then when I map my route out I can see where they fall along the route and incorporate those as stop points. Sounds like more work than it really is. But yeah, with the diesel it wouldn't even matter..
@@JustSimplifying Where can I find this PDF? That would help a ton. In RV Life I zoom in on all the gas stations and look at street view to check. It's a pain. I love this truck but regret not getting the long bed diesel for the bigger tank and more mpg/power towing. Like you said about the engine noise, going down hills in Arkansas made it sound like my truck was going to blow up.
