If using instant yeast, don't add it until after you hydrate the flour - which I do for 30 minutes. Then I add yeast and knead for 15 - 20 minutes before it passes the window pane test.
I always add my store-bought, favorite flavor (Vanilla) to my cooled milk. I want my yogurt to taste like what I buy at the store. You can also add some sweetened condensed milk to make it sweeter. I like mine with a milder taste so I incubate for 6 hours, starting early in the morning. Thanks for your recipe. hugs, Donna 😊
So i had this problem. I tried the crock pot, the stove, the dutch oven. But instant pot on its regular mode, not the slow cooker mode is the very best, especially as a mississippi roast with carrots and potatoes. I sear the big sides for about 2 minutes each side, do high pressure for 1 hour and a natural release for 15 minutes. The release time makes a huge difference! It falls apart so easily that i have to scoop it out of the pot!
I am so appreciative of your videos! I'm new to milling my own flour and had several failures... I watched this video over and over, I don't even know how many times. I finally went for it, and my bread came out amazing! We actually look forward to eating this bread😊
Use your method with berries and followed part of another ingredients from a book ,Back to basics , it calls for milk, butter, salt in pot till bubbles on side then add to proofed yeast then add flour. I started with 3cof my milled flour then added 1c till not sticky. It called for 400° 50min so I stayed with that part and checked it at 40min. and it was done. I made 2 loaves it was a bit cool today so it took awhile to rise 50min or so, they look nice we'll see how they slice
I’m ALWAYS looking for Instapot ‘tried and true’ recipes! This looks yummy, I’m going to try it. Do you have an InstaPot “recipe” method for homemade yogurt?
No, I don't bake with much all purpose flour anymore. I would guess that if the total weight of flour is the same as the recipe, it would work. 👍🏼 Happy baking!
Easiest recipe ever! I made this today and just perfect for storing tonight! 🙌🏻 I have an instant pot duo so the settings are a little different. I used a high protein Milk (for thicker yogurt) and used the custom setting, set the temperature at 110°F for 9 hours. Yogurt turned thick and smooth ❤️ Also made granola 😍 excited to pair them tmr for breakfast
Looks yummy. We love pasta around here - quick, versatile, yummy. Win! 😊. Have missed your posts. Hope all is well, that your garden and chickens are thriving.
Thank you for watching! :) This recipe comes from a printed cookbook: The Prairie Homestead Cookbook by Jill Winger. I recommend purchasing a copy for this recipe and so many others!
Nice video. I'd like to ahare a few of my soft-fluff-sandwich-loaf from-fresh-milled-flour tips. Perhaps the best tip, is to bolt your flour, removing some of the bran. Just run the fresh milled flour through a fine kitchen sice. The bran is wonderful in muffins and so many things. Next autolayze without the yeast. Then as you start to knead in your mixer, add one egg the yeast and process for a good ten minutes. Another majormtip, is to incorporate powdered whole milk in the original mix. It really helps with the texture and flavor. Last and optional, but for me essential, I use an all natural dough improver that keeps the breast fresh and mold free for up to two weeks in the refrigerator. The rest of the recipe, is just as you suggest here. The honey is essential. Imsomtimes also add Agave doe a sweeter loaf. I believe the final product of our breads are similar.
Hi, I have a question. Since the dough will sit overnight is it necessary to let it autolyze for 10 minutes before kneading? Won't the dough have the opportunity to absorb all the water overnight?
You are correct in thinking that the flour will have plenty of time to absorb the water overnight. I like the 10 minute autolyze before kneading to judge if I need more flour or water in the dough.
I milled my hard white berries, six cups equals 8 cups of flour. I was silly, I went ahead and made your bread recipe with the instructions. Then I watched your video again and it was so opposite of the instructions I thought what an idiot I was not to be able to figure out your video recipe and the written recipe were two different things. I guess that’s what happens when you trust RU-vid.
I'm sorry that you had that experience. I am not sure where the video and description disagree. I put 6 cups of wheat berries in my mill for each batch of bread. I hope that if you try it again, it goes more smoothly!

I am so glad that you liked it! I have never tried it for pizza. This recipe does double as a cinnamon roll recipe, though. If you check out my channel, I have another freshly milled pizza crust recipe that you might like. :) Thanks for watching!
Made these today and they were perfect. The only thing I don't like is the "grainy" taste at the end of some bites. I used hard white as that is all I have. Does it make a difference using soft white berries? I love your videos. God bless you for all you do for your family!
If your Instant Pot model requires the lid to be on, you can take off/open the pressure regulator or remove the silicone ring to ensure that your yogurt doesn't come to pressure. I hope that works!
The recipe doesn't show up when I click the link :/. I think I got the recipe correct from watching the video: 1 c (little more) soft white wheat 2 Tbs baking powder 1 tsp salt 1/3 c. honey 1 tsp vanilla 2 eggs 1 c. milk can someone let me know if this is correct? Thanks!
The link must have changed since I shared it. Sorry about that! You'll need 2.5 cups of freshly milled soft white wheat FLOUR 2 Tbs baking powder 1 tsp salt 2 eggs 2 Tbs melted butter 4 Tbs honey 1.5 cups milk 2 tsp vanilla extract Enjoy!
I’m not certain, but I think getting the milk to 180 F is critical. My final yogurt came out super watery, from what I read getting the milk to 180 and keeping it there for a bit helps get the finished product more gelatinous.
I've been making bread since I was little and for a long time I have been interested in investing in a grain mill. I finally did it with a gift card. Today I used your recipe to make my first loaves with freshly milled flour. I probably should have used a little more flour because of the weather but it was the first time! I am trying to figure out HOW BUYING BERRIES IS CHEAPER THAN BUYING FLOUR! It is not an "apples to oranges" because of all the reasons WHY to mill fresh flour but it seems that the berries are quite a bit more expensive than flour. Am I missing something? THANKS! Love your videos! You must be a great mom! 👏
For my family budget friendly wasn’t the reason we’re trying fresh milled flour, my family gets stomach issues from the white store bought flour, I did find a flour that works and makes wonderful bread and doesn’t cause issues but it’s much more expensive than the berries, and sourdough bread is the most budget friendly but my family doesn’t like it so we’re trying fresh flour and hope for happy bread eating 😊
