Welcome to my channel named IROCinZ! Here on the channel, I will be doing how-to's and mechanical repairs on just about anything. It was created for people that know the basics of auto care and maintenance but need a guide. The videos will be in-depth and detailed on most things. Of course, the main thing is my Camaros. I grew up with the IROC-Z and alot of my friends drove the 3rd gen F-Bodies and had a blast with them. The aftermarket is great for these cars and you can pick them up fairly cheap.
My background is automotive. I started at a young age with my Grandpa teaching me alot from him being a MAC mechanic. I knew at that point that I liked about anything mechanical, so I made a career of it. It has its ups and downs just like anything else. I decided its now time to share what I learned with the rest of the community.
I hope you enjoy the content, please share it with your friends. My only real goal is for someone to learn something from what I teach...
sounds like a real idiot if painting over a model sticker without a care in the world. Guaranteed he did not properly prep/clean the surface prior to painting it
Quick question. Can you put that reluctor wheel on backwards? Just rebuilt one and now the Speedo isn’t working. Hoping I just damaged the sensor. Your videos were a ton of help.
I bought that same blind bushing puller kit from scamazon. I had to take all the expanding dies to work and turn them on the lathe. The land that pulls on the bushings is too thick and it’s got a taper to it so it won’t fit well in the tighter spots and the ones it did fit in it just slipped off because the damn die just bent where the center rod flexes the head out. They work great with a flat land and about .060 faced off the bottom.
Hey Smitty, hope you're keeping well and this message reaches you. I had a full rebuild of the 700R4 in my 89 IROC-Z. It seems like it's revving at higher RPM to achieve 70 mph in overdrive. I have 2.77 rear end and think I used to be at 70 mph at 2000 rpm but now when I'm doing 2000 rpm I seem to be at about 65 mph. Is that possible? Surely there are only one set of cogs for overdrive in a 700R4? Thanks!
Can you use the direct clutch wave plate on the forward drum? My wave plate on the forward pack was cracked clean through in one spot. It almost looked like the direct wave plate in this vid
One side of the clip that holds the tcc or pc solenoid broke on mine. Whould that be why it hesitates after I put it in D then finally starts moving? The rpm’s will rise but dousing start moving for a few seconds
Sooooo, thanks for the clarification; I went back to swap a piston in that 3rd gear clutch, and it helped aplenty to make sure the steels were in the right clutch. They're about .020 thicker in the 3rd than they are in the direct. I wish there was a apet-by-part install vid. I bought a thrust washer kit and had plastic "selectables" left over and a whole piston that I have no idea where it goes.....feel like I missed something? But thanks for the video; very, very helpful 💪🏻🙏🏻👍🏻
I just tore my 80 down and my sprag was pretty chewed up. Looked like it heated up the bore and caused the sealing rings to fail and burnt both the intermediate and forward clutches. I’m on the hunt for a new direct drum assembly. Rest of the trans looks mint.
@@IrocinZ I know the sprag clutches are basically the weakest link. I ordered some new borg Warner HD sprags and a new drum and center section. I’m hoping with the new circle d converter and a little luck it will last a long time.
hey brother. i just bougt a 92 camaro i just found this channel and i will be watching closely as i restore mine little by little. i thank you for sharing your knowledge for those of us who have little or none. thank you for your help in advance!!👍🏿👍🏿
The perfect video sir! I think this saved my gate and my patience. I tested the voltage like you did on that transformer and I'm getting 73 volts so I assume mine crapped the bed. Symptoms were massive close lightning strike today, smoke alarms in the house even squelched a bit from it. Gate stopped working. Fuse is good, green power light on the board on, transformer has a green indicator light and when you push the reset button on the outside box lower right you get the reset light to light up. Other than that, NOTHING on the board works as far as pushing buttons or indicator lights. Not sure if I pushed that button to the right of center that you kept pushing to get the blinking during your tests but I'll test that tomorrow morning. Good voltage to the batteries, good incoming current to the transformer and the pannel but nothing. I'll start with a new transformer.
Very informative and educational and I thank you very much for the information. However I do not have the same taste in music and I gave me a headache.
Hey man great video, i wanted to ask if a wrong assembly on the forward clutch pack could cause the low reverse cultch to burn, if somebody could help me pls
You sure didn’t spend no time on this subject mine is a new cage but when it came apart the bearings tops and bottoms were ate up it was open tcc solenoid and I still ain’t figured out why but it smoked forward spray and bearings
Hi, good vid though i don't know why you make band adjustment with no pump in. You can see the drum/ shaft move when you apply air. Have you thought about checking after you set the servo shaft length with the tool and pump in, also fit the 4th cover and snap then use dial indicator to cover see how much the cover moves in away from snap ring at rest. This is how I set my transmissions. I have found too long I won't get the snap in and if it just rolls in without force its dam near right.. Plus backyard builders would benefit with such knowledge. more than 1 way to skin a cat.
Thank you for these straight forward videos. I used them as a tutorial for when I installed a Merchant Auto pump rub kit in my transfer case. Very well recorded and explained. One thing I did was I got a dog tag embossed with: Merchant Auto pump rub kit installed, the miles and date. I JB welded it to the hub flat on the outside of the case so others would know it’s been done and when. There’s really no other way to know. I bought the tag from Amazon. The vendor embossed it. 7.50 shipped. Worth it I think.
Great video. I have a TH 400 and it has the same type of reverse servo. When I opened up my pan, the oil was low and two of the six bolts were out of their bores, on the magnet in the pan. Could this have happened due to improper torque? Or was someone in my transmission stealing parts. I bought this truck recently.
Working on another 4l60e case but this time i can tell the case bushing has been changed which orientation do the notches go? Need to know asap last time i marked them eith paint pen.
Notches go toward the inside and I usually put them more toward the upper part of the case. Sorry about the long response time. Haven't been on here too much as of late...
Whats those little spring you installed called that went on the outside of the 3-4 clutch pack. Im rebuilding a 4l60e and i didnt have those installed.
Hey buddy - I am trying to figure out my gate which is same model as yours. When I test the voltage on green and white I get 9 volts but when I test on white yellow or blue it is 0. Does that mean the circuit board is bad? Thanks for your help! Appreciate your video it has made me infinitely more knowledgeable.
