What a gorgeous treasure trove of vintage fabrics from your great grandmother! As a quilter I am drooling. I too love fabric collage, maybe because I’ve always enjoyed scrappy quilts. Both your projects are looking mighty fine.

@Erndales 4 дня назад
Do you know what that quilt pattern might be called of great grandmas? She was working on that when she passed in 1964, so those fabrics are at least that old, but probably much older.

@@Erndales It may be a variation of a Dresden Plate pattern. It was not clear from what you showed whether it was meant to be appliquéd onto a block or further pieced into a square. My best guess is the applique version, and possibly the pattern is from the same era as the fabrics. They look 1940s ish to me. I’ll see if I can find it in any of my books and get back to you
@Erndales
@Erndales 3 дня назад
@franwilson9324 it is pieced. I have a section where she pieced it together. I’ll see if I can get a good photo of it for you.

Dale, we really must be related somehow! I too went to nursing school, way back in 1968, at VGH in Vancouver. Some circumstances intervened and I did not complete 3rd year. But I also was in Explorers, the president at one point, and did go on to CGIT as well. Many of my jewelry box treasures are similar to yours and I think they need their own memory bear! Thanks for always inspiring me, I enjoy your rabbit holes!! I also have a charm bracelet, lol, mine has a 21 on it.

Were you inspired to become a nurse by the Victoria Order of Nurses? If you were then we truly must connected in some way. My grandma lived with us and needed medical care and a VON came every day. I was very young, but I admired her so much, especially the big medical bag filled with stuff to make grandma comfortable. I wanted to be like her from that moment on. I’m happy you enjoyed my treasures. I’m working on the bear pattern pdf. And will have it available soon!

That’ll be a lovely bear! I was working on a button project while watching this episode. About berries: we have planted a black and a red currant bush in our little garden and now the red currant bush was loaded for the first year. It’s still small but I made jelly and froze it just leaving one little container out to try right away. So good. I’m 66 and has never done it but I remember mom making jams. She sterilised jars and all that which I’m glad I don’t have to do! Next year maybe we’ll have black currants too.. here in Norway we pick blueberries and cloudberries as well as lingonberries ( cowberries or fox berries might also be an English translation). We also pick wild raspberries, which I hated doing as a child since they grow in places with a lot of rocks and bushes so it’s hard to walk. Now we have a garden variety that we enjoy.
@Erndales
@Erndales 20 дней назад
This is the first year my red currant bush has produced enough berries to make jelly. I have raspberries too, but they haven’t done well this year because I cut them back too far last year. I am making rhubarb jam today. I sterilize my jars and process everything in a water bath. Hope to do Some marmalade next. Tis the season to preserve food for the winter! Thanks for watching!

It looks like your temperatures are about 18 degrees lower than where I live, but your humidity is much higher!! That makes them equally uncomfortable without AC. I hope yours is fixed and your house becomes more livable throughout. I’ll bet your garden is thriving - look forward to a tour soon😊!

Thank you for sharing your space with us. I so understand about the heat, 32’C here today and we are grateful for our basement too. No a/c in older homes on the west coast, so we rely on a small room air conditioner for our west facing living room. But upstairs, where the bedrooms are of course, oh boy, it’s hot! Stay cool, and stay well.
@Erndales
@Erndales Месяц назад
Our living room faces west as well and we have a huge picture window. I share your pain. The rest of the house will be cool, but even with AC the living room stays too warm for me to be in it! If it wasn’t for gardening, I wouldn’t like summer at all!
