Thank you for taking the time to create this great resource. It really helps explain some complex nuances in a very clear and simple format. I've been posting some of my recent attempts over on my channel and would love your feedback, as I am still developing my technique and am relatively new to this (2.5 years). Thanks!

try making block using nagarjuna cement, even if you pull the strength of your ancestors souls, you wouldn't be able to break it.

That's awesome! Never too late to learn a martial art and it will be great for maintaining mobility. I always suggest supplementing with some weight lifting to help stabilize joints, especially as we age.

Hi, I know I can do it, but still I block breaking the board because of doubt. And often stop at the board instead of going through. This leads to pain with feeds the doubt. Etc How do I break my doubt. How do I find back my self confidence and power. Please advise 🙏

Great question! One way I was able to overcome the fear of breaking a board or block with my body was to experiment with breaking them some other way just to see how easy they can be broken. That allowed my mind to understand the board or block wasn't unbreakable. For example, taking a board and setting it up as if I was going to break it with a hand technique like a knife strike or palm strike. Then simply pressing into the board slowly with my palm to feel how it bends. I could shift my weight onto it until hearing it crack. Small boards will break under this pressure but 12x12x1 pine boards will mostly bend. If the board didn't break I could stomp it with my foot and cause it to split in half. The idea is to feel, sense and know it will break just like you know you can dive into water without a problem but if you belly flop it hurts.

It amazes that so many traditional martial arts(not combat athletes) resist this information…. Even Bruce Lee, up in to the day he died, became obsessed with strength training and getting stronger and stronger for his martial arts.. so much so he injured himself with weights. I’m not saying that’s a good thing, I’m saying even Bruce understood the importance of being as physically strong and powerful as you could be for your Martial Arts…

I also believe strength training is an excellent compliment to martial arts training. Over my years of practice and competing a few of us always did strength training before our classes and it really made a huge difference with our conditioning (Cardio, Anerobic, overall strength with movement and Stamina) So much so that our younger peers could not keep up with us during warmups, breaking, and continuous technique drills. Absolutely invaluable to me!

Two comment I'd like to offer everyone: 1. The "open palm strike" is really a modern invention, that was rarely seen or used or taught in original martial arts dating back possibly a thousand years, because ancient masters knew it was a weak strike to begin with, and also it involved a weak joint of the body that was more susceptible to injury. Breaking even weaker materials like pine boars with an open palm strike will surely result in early wrist arthritis. 2. An excellent, possibly the best breaking demonstration can be seen in the RU-vid clip entitled "Temple Kungfu", featuring Grand Master Olaf Simon, breaking 1270 lbs. of ice, unspaced, with a single downward clenched hand blow. Some RU-vid sources claim this was and still is a world record for breaking that much ice with a single handed blow. Master Simon is wearing a White Sash, indicating he has an 11th degree black belt. It's purported that Chuck Norris once said on the Johnny Carson show, he "Would never want to be kicked by Master Olaf Simon".

Not 100% sure yet, wasn't seeing much demand for the type of videos I created so ended up backing off. But, I am currently working to get a physical training space for teaching classes and at that point will most likely start creating more tutorials to post regardless. Thanks for checking in!!

The most important thing is not to keep your feet far from each other. Always keep your feet more or less close together, this will give you more freedom to make quick movements.

Do you know the name of the variation where the outer arm is planted first, and then the other arm is brought in to lead the roll shortly afterwards? This is what I see being practiced in my dojo.
@MARTiALYOU
@MARTiALYOU 6 месяцев назад
Are you describing a dive roll taught as if you were hugging a large ball? We used to also teach a dive roll technique that involved placing the back of your lead hand on the floor and curling your body around the imaginary ball as you roll forward. I stopped teaching that particular technique after realizing it didn't work so well on hard surfaces like pavement or gravel. It seems a lot of techniques for rolls and falls learned in the gym on foam matts do not translate well to bare concrete. Parkour rolls and falls are impressive and I adopted that approach
