And the fools keep on saying we belong in the ACC/Big 12 … I rather keep winning championships in The Big East. Maleek Thomas is that dude. Plenty of playing time next year.
It seems Thomas may want Uconn if the cash offer is not much below the offers from the other schools. However, as a first round or lottery pick next year, he would more than make up for the difference but potentially win a national, get coached properly plus the cool intangibles.
The myth that UConn isn’t offering money or as much as others is silly. All they ask is that it not be the no 1 thing on the list cause then they don’t want you. NIL is a part of it but I don’t know who’s perpetually saying UConn is paying under market
Big Eastbis small Catholic university now. We belong in ACC! Last I remember our biggest rivals were Cuse, Pitt, BC, Duke… Big East is small time! And no ACC school is going to leave to join Big East… rafts just folly!
Hurley's going to start getting too many one & dones and 2 year guys and he's going to lose a bit of the winning culture and become a victim of his own succcess just like the rest of these guys. Cal, Coach K, etc.
UCONN getting on of the top 3 or 4 is enough cause they'll be a one and done! Getting a couple of the ranked 10-30 players every year is important because they're more likely to stick a couple years minimum! Hurley's personality is best suited for college, nothing to do with ability! Pro college coaches are babysitters, not coaches or managers! What a pro coach can do is tell the owners what players will give you the best TEAM!
I’m a UConn grad and alum, but I believe Hurley is simply waiting for an opening in New York, Brooklyn, Boston or Philly. When that happens and it’s bound to happen sooner rather than later, he gone. No one was more excited about his return than me, but UConn needs to plan for his departure sooner rather than later. Since the Laker saga, I’ve been saying the next year UConn doesn’t win the national title will be his last. Trust me, this open flirtation with the NBA will hurt him in the long run recruiting. No one will commit to a coach with one foot out the door.
No opening in Boston for a while. Nurse will be in Philly for at least 2 more years (even if things go badly in ‘24-‘25, just don’t see them firing him after one bad year). It’s not out of the question that NY opens after next year, but it would be surprising. Nets are the most likely to open in 12 months but I’d be surprised if he went there. But, we’ll see.
I don’t disagree that he will leave. I don’t think he is going to leave pretty quickly although I was on a few shows saying that if the Knicks job opened up, he’d strongly consider it. That being said, I don’t think he’d ever be 1 foot out the door as you described, that’s just not his style
Knicks or Celts, agreed! Celts won't open for awhile, but continued success at UCONN makes the Knicks a sooner rather than later! Philly would be a distant third, but their fans are tough like Hurley!
While it may happen that he takes an NBA job in the Northeast we have to consider that it will be a much bigger commitment as far as time and travel with much longer season. Maybe he just wanted to test the waters with the Lakers and he'll end up staying at UConn for the long run. Time will tell.
He'll definitely leave for an nba job in/around the northeast, but he definitely isn't a coach one foot out the door... The Knicks are having a good run with Thibs, Mazzulla just wont a title, Nick Nurse and Morey have known each other for awhile so unless he really wants the Nets job in 2-3 years, Hurley will be around for a long enough period to be worth the time of top recruits
Going forward, 5 stars will cost major bucks, $1M plus for a years rental. Can't see us affording more than one per season. AJ is going to cost upwards of $2M. He doesn't need Hurley to to improve his game to get to the NBA. He's a #1 pick right now. Unless he wants to have his parents at every home game, he'll play wherever he gets the most money.
Nothing confusing about it, they are a much more successful program especially over the last 2 years . With that comes more Visibility and more 4 and 5 star recruits.
The husky schedule may benefit them too!! 6 home games in a row. May be a great time to get momentum and confidence going and then Mass on road… That’s 7-5 dare I say 8-4???
Hey mark great show ..im a new york native ...raised in ct ..now residing in Georgia..im a hugevfan of your show..and a bigger UConn fan...i go back to the tate george chris smith days...ive watched every natty..would love to get involved in your insider thing...keep up the good work...go Uconn!!!! #bleedblue
I think we’re on the verge of getting two 5 stars per class. That’s not the usual way at UConn, but if Hurley keeps developing the kids and winning, the One and Done’s are going to want in.
Excellent guest in Borges! I really hope people continue to support the show so it can grow. Other than the content, the greatest selling points are a lack of interrupting and yelling like you get with other sports outlets.
Of course it's good for college basketball, it creates a standard. Look at Kentucky from 2009-2015, they didn't go back to back like UConn just did, but they did win a championship, ironically lost to UConn in another championship in 2014, was putting together seasons like 35-3, 38-2, 38-1 ect. It ultimately made the SEC improve, look at Duke and how they have had their share of dominant years, it creates competitiveness in their own conference and ultimately in the NCAA tournament as well. North Carolina and Kansas as well, Every now and then you will get that. I hope uconn stays competing at an elite level, it will be interesting in seeing who will bring them down next year
Can someone please explain to me how Reed Sheppard is rated higher on numerous draft boards than Castle? Castle is taller, longer, better defender, and was way more upside as a 6'6'' future pg. Not to mention, if Castle and Sheppard were matched up head to head, doesn't it seem a lot more likely that Castle wins that matchup than vice versa?
