We are Richard & Carol, husband & wife and we love motorcycles. On the channel we share our tours, holidays and days out on the bikes. Currently Richard rides a Yamaha MT10 and a Yamaha XSR900 (that looks like a RD350LC) and Carol rides a Triumph Street Triple 675. You are welcome to enjoy our videos and we love to hear your comments or questions and always try to answer. Great vid both. Next time you are up you will have to try the cow shed (belton farm) its literally 10 mins from yondermanns and also does a fantastic breakfast. Getting quite popular with bikers 👍🏻👍🏻
Richard, I also get that hip pain you mentioned. If I`m accelerating hard and not sitting perfectly in the middle of the seat, I get a dagger in the hip, also if having to break hard to avoid a numpty etc. Really painful isn`t it? I have to ride while trying to get my leg out straight for a few seconds and that normally clears it. Great getting old...
@darrenhall6509 It's amazing reading the comments how many others get this issue. Yes, getting old has its issues, but it's still better than the alternative. Thanks for watching
Ey up Missed you both again, but to be honest I was probably up in the Lake District riding a couple of Carol’s favourite passes Who knows, one day we’ll bump into each other in one the many Peak District biker cafes Talking of which, have you been to the Flash Bar Stores Cafe? It’s situated on the A53 before Buxton just by Flash Village. The Pasties, Pies and cakes are to die for with some stunning views Si thee
@thematlockbiker Ey up Yes, missed you again. Carol says the Flash bar is on her intend to visit list. She thinks the owners used to run Yondermans Thanks for watching
Love wetton mill area - great narrow adventure bike lanes to meander around on - cafe is a lovely location - also great at the Tea junction/ Hulme end 👍 nice vid guys 😁
Hello to the both of you. Monsal head is such a lovely spot to stop off at have a sit on 1 of the benches and just admire the stunning views. Cracking food at the Yonderman.
Thanks Richard and Carol . love the Peak District . Once did a Police organised observed road trial called The Potters 100 starting and finishing at Stoke on Trent . Wetton Mill was where they all stopped for a break . we will be at Triumph tomorrow . best wishes .
@johnbellamy6449 Arr, we've just been at Triumph this afternoon. It was busy. A friend has offered free tickets to the British Superbikes at Dono, so I'm off there tomorrow. Hope you're keeping well. Cheers
We use The Yondermann for the SuperGood rides. Stacks of room. Only thing is you need a mortgage. Was there a sign. You should have heard all the C90s through it. I'll agree with you on the food at the mill is just ok
@LoneWallyUK To be honest I would rather have expensive but good compared to cheap and crap food. The owners have spent a lot of cash improving the place. Wetton mill needs a proper coffee machine and something better than a microwave for heating pasties. Cakes are good though👍
Hi Richard & Carole. I remember visiting Monsal Head many times over the years. Started as a 7yr old with my mother, walking down to the viaduct rail crossing and then being able to walk through the tunnel, which you can't now of course, or going the other way for a mile or so. My back yard as a child but now 63 with fond memories. Great video 😀👍
@tescan1961 Thanks. You can actually walk or cycle through the tunnel now. The rail lines are long since gone, but not that long ago, they opened up all the old tunnels and installed lighting.
@@Banditmanuk I didn't know that, thanks for letting me know. I think another visit is in order, it was a spooky place going through that tunnel as a 7yr old with no torch 😅
@tescan1961 If you park at Hassop Station near Bakewell, there's a great cafe and cycle hire. From there, you walk through Headstone tunnel, then over Monsal-dale viaduct and then through Cressbrook tunnel. You can carry on to Millers Dale if feeling fit. It's a brilliant experience walking through the lit tunnels and probably less scary than using a torch
I went to the Yonderman a few months ago, they said they’d come to my table to take my order but after 30 minutes of waiting I guessed they forgotten about me so I left. 🤷🏼♂️
@loftysaltmarsh69 I shouldn't put a like by this comment because that's awful service. The like is for watching and commenting. They did table service from covid times, but we still go to the counter, tell them what we want and pay there and then.
@@Banditmanuk that’s what I did….went to the counter only to be told “find a table and we’ll come and take your order”……. I’ve since found the Cowshed cafe…..wonderful. 👍
That's what biking is all about. Making the time to head out early, grabbing a hearty breakfast en route and savouring the local scenery. What's not to like. Love it. Take care.
Being down south, early morning rides are the only ones worth doing. Always on the road around 6.30am or first light, which ever is later, at the weekend. This morning it was 5c, so heated gloves and inner jacket was required - I think this'll be the norm now until about May 2025. ☹️ So you've nicked LCR's intro music! 😁
@mrcintheuk4641 Yep, early morning rides are the best. I wondered if anyone would spot Chop's intro music. 😆 Someone else in the comments hated the music on this vid. Guess we will never please everyone 🙃
A lovely ride out and a nice breakfast, that's what it's all about. It's a pity Carol's mic kept packing in, if it's the Rode mic I think I've got a spare one from when my receiver flew off the ZZR. Looks like it's going to stay dry this weekend hopefully I'll get out on the BMW, I've got the foundations for my new bike shed to finish first though.
@michaellilley6725 Strange you should mention the Rode receiver flying off. We've just bought a new set after Carol's sender packed in. About the second trip out going a bit quick, the new receiver flew off the Insta Camera and was only saved by the cable and microphone adapter! I've now got a spare receiver and 1 good transmitter. You're welcome to them if you want them.
@@Banditmanuk Thanks for the offer Richard, my daughter and her boyfriend bought me a new set of Rodes. I've since bought the DJI set as well as a cheaper brand called Synco which were too hot even although they came with their own lav mics. I'd hang onto them if I were you just incase you need a spare in future.
Good morning Richard and Carol beautiful where you are the end I went after watching one of your videos nice cakes definitely. I burst out laughing what Carol said maminl’s 😂😂😂
Nice run guys to cold fer me though if that's where we are at now temp wise then the bikes tucked up until spring i'm in 26 + at the moment so not lookin forward to gettin back 😉.The food looked fab I'll have to check where that is from me it looks well worth a visit .Good one 👌👍
Morning both, agree with you the beauty and great routes we have within 30mins riding is a blessing. Try the Manifold Inn for a Sunday lunch can heartily recommend. Great video and I also get the hip pain 😣.
MAMIL Middle aged motorcyclists in leathers 😂 6:35 and a bit, I've forgotten if you've been to the Cow shed for breakfast? Some say it is a lot better than the Yonderman.
@the_mad_leprechaun 😆😆 They were glinting. That part of the Peak District at Monsal Head is about an hour and a quarter away, so not exactly close but doable for a breakfast. It was a super enjoyable ride with little traffic
I get it at least once every ride. Usually, after riding a while, then putting the leg down straight then back on the peg. Takes about a minute to subside. It will need to be much worse to stop me riding
@@Banditmanuk There's always stronger pain killers as a last resort. I'm getting some arthritis in my left thumb now (which I broke in a crash 44 years ago), which is just starting to limit my distances.
You're blessed with great locations. Nice start, beautiful scenery and top marks for the overtake. Sounds like Richard needs to do some hip mobility exercises, they really help 👍
@NooBiker We are blessed here in central England. Peak District North, Wales West or Skeggy all easy day rides. Unfortunately, I've got the early stages of arthritis in both knees and one hip. It's hard to believe but I do big daily milage walking with my mowing work. It's getting progressively more painful at the end of each day. Losing weight should probably be the priority 🙄
I don't tally her hip issues.... Yet! But if I have to reach top the grind on tall bikes it kicks off my sciatica. Breakfast is making me get out of bed, it's a good one that. I do like a quality breaky. Nice early ride👍
Walked to the Mill a few times and had a cuppa over the years but never made it there on the bike. In fact it’s been years since I’ve taken the bike up to the Peak District. One for next year I expect. Can’t beat a cold sunny ride though. Exhilarating.
@ianbaines9705 Since they opened up all the railway tunnels, the cycling/walking from Ashbourne along the railway line is amazing. Riding through the old tunnels is an experience and a marvel of engineering in the day. It also takes you over that viaduct shown in the vid.
@ralphbeardmore9738 The number of times Carol and I have had conversations about getting a more relaxed leg position bike...... In all other ways, the MT10 is brilliant. I had a great week some years back riding an NC750X in Gran Canaria. Very comfortable.
@@Banditmanuk I took my test on the MT-07 and complained every time I got off it. I got back on my YBR125 and could easily drive for a couple of hours after a lesson. At our age it is an imprtant consideration. Love the channel too! Although I am local I don't know many of the biker haunts.
@grahamatkins8845 Sadly, you're right about the age thing. I'm only 60, so I'm just hoping it doesn't get too much worse. It's one of the reasons Carol & I keep doing bike trips and tours. Do it while you can 👍👍
@RichardASK You're a good advertisement for an older MT10 pilot 👍 Yes, we will be at Stafford on the Saturday. If you are there, which stand do we find you on?
Nice. N625 and N621 roads into Riano are fantastic. N621 faster. My MT-10 loved Riano ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-asU74eTQ-WM.htmlsi=5jW7AjaY1qGTeybM&t=57 I did Iceland this year on Tenere 700 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5dwUfhCHiwo.htmlsi=gwdUhK0pUE2lDsdm I hope to go back to Picos and Iceland 🙂
Nice to see you out playing bike mate 🙂 I've never rated the food there either... it is a bit school dinner like... bland and left on a hotplate too long.
Interesting review. Thank you. A good thing is the positioning above the exhaust resulting in a slim mount on many motorcycles. I don't like the complex mounting system. I have a SW-Motech tank bag with a quick mount that locks up when it rains and a Hepco & Becker top box that jams when it's fully loaded. I need simple bags that work. When camping two up, as I have preferred since the late seventies, an old kit bag or a dry bag is roomier than any top box.
Really like your videos both, a keen biker myself, I’m now looking to film and post the odd video! Mainly for memories. Any tips would be appreciated please, currently have a go pro 7 and looking to purchase a laptop for downloading
@triumphbikerman Thanks for the kind words. 🙏 You should give it a go. Carol & I have met and chatted to some wonderful people as a result of our RU-vid channel. First and most importantly, be yourself. Chat to the camera like you are chatting to a friend. Keep it simple to start with. Possibly an introduction to you and your motorcycle. Remember, it's not live. If you mess up, just edit it out and try again. There's plenty of free editing software out there to try. Don't be downhearted if not many view early vids, it takes time to build an audience. Try to make a video title and thumbnail that describes the video and might look interesting to like minded folks. Don't get discouraged by an odd thumb down or unpleasant comment. There's way more great decent people out there than bad ones. Enjoy & take care Richard
@@triumphbikerman Yes we had GoPro issues. Mainly the picture freezing but still recording audio. If we were recording a once in a lifetime trip, freezing wrecked the record. Also short battery life, random shutdowns and corrupt memory cards. The DJI so far have perfect reliability
@@Banditmanuk that’s interesting. Thank you for the response. As I’m also looking to upgrade my go pro, can I ask what mic system you use for the helmet please? And software used to edit on your PC- many thanks in advance
Perfect service. They gave you a completely new set. I agree about the dirtiness when riding in the rain. I have the SH36 model and experience the same. Otherwise I am completely satisfied with them. A nice product. By the way my mother made my inner bags. Have both videos, a review video of the SH36 and about making the inner bags. Nice vide Richard. Enjoyed. Cheers. Take care. Can check my community tab when you can. :)
I do like the SHAD panniers the design and colour suits the bike too. Never knew SHAD made the VARIO panniers thats interesting. Great review very comprehensive both. 👍🏻👍🏻
I’m not in the market for new panniers, but that was a really good and comprehensive review, with capacity and weights given and showing how the internal bags fit. And hats off to Shad for their customer service. Particularly like the addition of a cargo net, on my multistrada I have side loading and have on occasion had spillage just when you don’t want it, whilst opening them somewhere. Oh and that MT-10 really suits Carol, can’t believe she’s not had a go on it yet😊..look forward to that video.
Only time will tell If mine was just a one off problem. I did ride in some terrible conditions that left the cases filthy on our Pyrenees tour. Without the issue we had, I would have no hesitation in recommending them. They did stay watertight inside
Great honest review, the more functions and moving parts the more chance of failure. 40+ years ago my first motorcycle luggage was a fertiliser bag and two bungees.
@ticthedog6095 To be honest that's been my view for many years. Carol's still using very basic SW Motech Blaze panniers that haven't caused any issues in over 10 years. I saw these and thought great, secure luggage that fits an MT10. They are indeed great but only if they continue to function trouble-free. If these new ones fail with dirt ingress, then Shad need to look at the design and I might be regretting my purchase 🙃
I love this luggage, a very useful feature having the luggage expand, I wonder if some dry lube would help on sliding latch part of the mechanism? Interesting video.
@@Hinckley_Biker Speaking to Shad, they recommend a silicone lube so we will use that. We still really like the cases but in our opinion, they must be able to withstand the dirt and grime of long tours in all weather.
A concise honest review of these panniers and the top box and helpful for me as I'm planning the top box for my BMW R1250R 🙄👍 It'll be interesting to see if others come across the same issue with grit in wet riding conditions 🤔 Now I'm aching with anticipation of the Carol tries the MT10 video, I imagine her reaction much be like my son's first pillion on the ZZR 😲😰
Nice review and kudos to Shad for sorting new luggage- I bet they wanted to have the old luggage for a proper investigation. Don't forget to put the key in the barrel before removing and refitting.
@LordBilious I think he said that it probably wasn't viable to ship the failed panniers back to Shad in Spain. He would do a warranty claim report and then possibly use my old panniers as spares repair. Thanks for the tip on the barrel change 👍
You can't argue against hard luggage when it comes to lockable security, but it certainly comes at a price. As I don't carry valuables such as laptops and cameras I've always opted for soft luggage. If someone wants my Primark underwear they're welcome to it! I've only used soft panniers once but now I just use a 50 litre (considering a 70 litre) Givi waterproof roll bag (other makes are available) on the pillion seat, which doesn't affect the ride or filtering. As bikes are so thin at the rear now I've added the clip-in removable Givi Lateral Frame Remover X bars to ensure the roll bag does not sag or damage the paintwork.
@mrcintheuk4641 Carol still uses her decade old SW Motech Blaze soft panniers. They do their job and nothing to break. We made my bike more secure for our more valuable stuff on tour. Jury is out if the locking mechanism will be reliable on this replacement set. Hard bags add a considerable amount of weight as well.
