We specialize in repairing laptops at chip level, but on this channel we present different approaches to all kinds of defects in a wide variety of electronics. There is content suitable for both beginners and advanced technicians. So there is something for (almost) everyone. :-)

I am happy for the customer and for you because you managed to "dodge" that bullet, the touchpad will be installed later when it is available on the market. Congratulations. Excellent work Mike. Thank you very much for sharing. PS: I like those clients who "bet" on the rescue and trust you to do it. Do you remember who sent you a "surface" laptop from Malta? Another good bettor. All the best from Mexico.
Good morning. Congratulations for the succesfull repair! As far as touchpad is concerned, I believe that it is not a HW problem since when you were in BIOS menu it was OK. So PCH is working and it can be rule out. My suggestion is to try a Linux live distro on USB stick and check the touch pad with a different OS. If touch pad is fine with Linux it it a WINDOWS problem (compatibility, perhaps?). Good luck, fingers crossed! Regards from Italy.
I had a similar problem with a touchpad not working once Win 10 loaded the Alps driver. I made it work by deleting the driver and let it be a simple HID device. This was on an 8th gen with LTSC
This was before the dirty ME was cleaned. The point is, that it needed way too long till it shows picture, even after second and third attempt (without removing power) it was too long. This is a typical cause of dirty ME Region.
dirti bravo e scontato ho fatto il tifo per te fino alla fine comuncue bella riparazione professionale e sempre un peccato quando finiscono i tuoi video grazie ciao. una domanda hai provato ad avviare windows in modalita provvisoria?
Your first attempt failed because you use too much flux… flux is “boiling” and releases gases. When this happens, if there is too much, it will cause the balls to shift and create shorts…. Good luck!
Nope, i forgot to mention. Comes from SUHMS ( Shenzhen Hong Ming Electronics Co., Ltd. / AliExpress ) Sold as "new", since from my experience it's the best chance to get a working PCH without the bootguard fuses already triggered. Best regards
I'm glad you're back. (10:07 - 10:35) When I saw these ohmic measurements, intuition told me that: "game is over." Maybe I would have checked by removing the Super I-O and the Flash Memory and without them inside the circuit, inject voltage and check if the Chipset continues to run hot. If it were so; So that MoBo is in the 119th minute of the second overtime losing 3-0 and at the host's house. A fraternal greeting from Mexico. PS: First time I see that laptop manufacturer. I recognized based on the part numbers of both the IC EC and/or Super IO and the Chipset that it looks very similar (I would say quite a lot) to the Lenovo ThinkPad of recent models (in my opinion the ones with the best quality in their manufacturing, they are NOT cheap ). Since I was intrigued, I will take the time (ugh) to see the ThinkPad models that I find on the NRFix channel up to 4 years old. I just saw that you uploaded a new video but I have to go out with the family (it's Sunday).
Excellent video and repair Mike. Very powerful come-back 😉 The touch-pad since it's working on the BIOS it should be some higher level logic that doesn't work. Did you check if the touchpad board has some FLASH IC on it ? For the reworking, could you please elaborate on temperatures a bit ? What temp you set on the hot plate ? Did you take measurements on the PCB surface ? What was the target temp before you start pushing hot air from the top ?
The truth? I don't use a temperature Sensor on the board anymore but work according to my feeling. Hot plate set to 200°C, pre-heating the board for 15 Mins, Hot-Air set to 350°C 50% Airflow with a fitting Nozzle for the BGA size and let's go. Observation with microscope till I am convinced, PCH is in place, done. Did not find anything useful on the touchpad PCB but checked every single single line and component on the mainboard without success. However, I am done with it and it's okay. I gave everything I could and a 95% win is still okay for me. :) Best regards
@@fairrepair_en I know the feeling. I work here with some DELL corporate laptop boards and even if some times a finger print sensor (for example) doesn't work, it's fine as long as the board posts and loads windows. I'm going to try my luck with big BGA and I'm trying to collect as much information I can, so thanks for the info 😃 As for cleaning ME region, I can help you too if you can't find someone else available. Have a nice day Mike!
I did like the way , how you checked / measured the voltage rails on the PCH , then injecting voltage ! Amazing skills as always, keep it going ! The teaser at the end is the cherry on the top ! Cant wait for that :D
Hello I wonder if you have some thoughts for my surface book 2 base. The base on mine has some kind of hardware fault. When connected to the tablet it is detected however the keyboard and trackpad do not work and the GPU is not detected by the system either. The battery will charge when plugged in. The only key on the keyboard that works is the detach button, so it will detach from the tablet as normal when pressed. I have done a complete format, driver reinstall and tried everything so it's definitely hardware related somewhere! Do you have any thoughts what it could be???
Hello, excellent video, thanks for the information, but I have a question, if you can help me, I have the same notebook in the video, my problem is that when playing it lasts 10 minutes with a temperature of 65° and it turns off and it didn't happen before. , maintenance was carried out and the failure still persists, I think it is an internal problem. Could you help or guide me, I would greatly appreciate it. Greetings from Chile.😀
This is a unusual symptom and will be hard to troubleshoot remotely. I'd prefer that you contact me via my website or via E-Mail. Thanks and best regards. Mike

I too have this model with same fault. Returned it to Asus who claimed fault was due to "spillage" Strange as it's hardly used and stored away and certainly never in contact with liquids Asus wanted £900 (1100$) to repair which was more than I paid for it so I shall NEVER buy Asus again!!
I too have this same model and like many, have no power. Returned it to Asus - told it was because of "spillage" Strange thing it's hardly been used and certainly not exposed to moisture. Their estimate to repair £900+ (1100$) Ridiculous to even consider so won't EVER buy Asus again...particularly as so many have this same problem.
Can be literally anything between a issue around the embedded controller and a fault inside of the CPU, so will be hard to troubleshoot remotely. I'd prefer that you contact me via my website or via E-Mail. Thanks and best regards. Mike
