The non-fouler trick didn't fix my P0430 code. They got smart. Apparently, mid-2000 and newer cars occasionally run rich/lean tests to see if the O2 sensors are doing their job. When the test is SUPPOSED to fail but doesn't, it throws out the same code.

I have that twist the wire up issue on my Triumph Motorcycle. It's just to difficult for them to have a plug on the O2 sensor and have the cars wire cables plug into the sensor. Probably ads $10-20 having that pigtail on O2 sensors.

So if my friends brothers cousin hypothetically did use a spacer, is there a reason you have to take it off? I wouldn't expect anyone to be looking after inspection

Been doing the break in procedure since my first rotor change, because it was written in the instructions coming with the parts. Thickness variation on a street car, is a thing mostly caused by axial runout. The axial runout lead to the pads touching the rotor at only 2 points when not braking. These contacts will thin the rotor around them in around 10 000 to 20 000 km. Thickness variations will cause the dreaded pulsations. There are many less frequents causes but axial runout is the number one. The runout can be in the wheelhub not nescessarilly the rotors. A cheap dial indicator on a stand will pick it up.

@@MikeTheBackyardMechanic The recommended procedure is to check the run-out on the hub before installing the discs. I did that on the third pair of discs changed under warranty one week before expiry, on my wife car. One day before expiry of said warranty I collected the car and checked the axial runout with a dial. Then drove it back to the garage before closing to show them. Then it was : " Remember attack the mistake not the man." "Stay calm" " Only state what you can prove" Had them(liability issue could not do it) remove the wheel check the disc run-out Which was off, then remove the discs and check the hub's run-out which was off as expected. Took the bus back home while they waited for a new hub. When the hub is back you will be throwing discs for a temporary fix. This is expensive, I can not understand why they did not do it on the second disc change.

Hey Mike love your video. Nicely done, question I have one of them cheap aftermarket backup camera, THIS HAS BEEN DRIVING ME CRAZY, coming from the camera. I see 4 wires 1 red 1 green 1 white 1 bare, no yellow wire for video? One of my stupid friends cut the end off the cable. I see a very very thin Shield I've done a continuity test but that Shield there's nothing there is an extra pin when I disconnect the cable from the camera which I'm pretty sure that's the output there's nothing coming out of that long extension for the video can you help?? I been auto tech for a long time.but gave it up years ago. So I'm just your everyday ordinary Marine engineer I work with lots of wiring schematics ect I just wanted to show you I have intelligence is there something new on missing here it's not Wireless that's for sure

Taps don't repair. They cut. A great way to ensure a bolt never goes into a hole again and torques to spec is to tap it. You want a thread chaser. It repairs the threads inside without removing nearly as much material as a tap does. You usually get better results. If you have to drill a hole out for a bigger size bolt. that's when you tap it. If all you have is a tap, it can work, but it's usually a subpar repair.

Im about to lose it. Machined the rotors three times on my 2012 Pilot and they still pulsate. Only 1 thou runout on the hub flange. Can anyone recommend a quality set of rotors?

I've heard only the cryos will work. I may just swap out cheap rotors every 6 months.

Spacer can cause O2 heater monitor to not complete. Since the sensor is away from the exhaust flow it may not heat up fast enough. Solving one problem creates another. Also, a savvy emissions tech will fail the visual check if he sees the spacer. But, overall worth a try.

I believe i over tightened an engine mount bolt ...i heard a bang sound. When i removed the bolt, it came out with a spring. Any idea what happened? Is the thread damaged in the hole or thread damaged on bolt....i just ordered a new bolt hoping it tighten again...

For race applications the Rotor is only the friction surface. The Rotor is attached to the Hat via "flexible" fixings. This is known as a "floating" disc. Road applications have the Rotor and Hat as one piece. These installations are known as floating calibers (hence the slide pins).

If you are using a spacer the heat shield isn't needed. Until you remove the spacer of course.

Oh shit fuckk! So glad I found your video before attempting this job. I don’t have the money to replace the cat so I was going to remove it and hope it was just clogged and could be cleaned and not broken. Now idk if it’s worth doing at all bc if I don’t have the money to replace I feel like I’ll be up shit creek without a paddle. 😓 My life be like Murphys Law too so we know how it’d end. Fuckery. But on another note, Napa Know How!! I worked for them back in Alaska and it was one of my favorite jobs. I knew nothing about vehicles til I worked there and I’m so thankful for the opportunities I had there. The patience and compassion of the owner/boss man, Sean Conley and the patience and kindness of most of the employees and customers I’ll never forget and be forever thankful for. I love Napa!! I have a 4-runner with a V8.15 years ago I bought a box that lets me run E-85. If I fill my tank with regular gas I get the lights and code for the cat. If I run E-85, the lights go out. I am not sure what percentage of E85 would be required to pass smog, but I have heard that most cars will run on 30% ethanol with no modification. Here in CA E-85 is $1.00 per gallon cheaper than regular gasoline.

Also note that they used to sell these pre-drilled on ebay for $5, but someone made ebay ban them. So if you don't have a vice or a drill, they can be bought pre-drilled, but you will have to poke around a bit to find them.

These do work, but the new car designs are both a blessing and a curse. Newer cars place the catalytic converters higher in the engine. They're much more difficult to fit a spacer in there, if they fit at all. But it's a blessing because it makes it harder to steal. And people have been stealing them.

Disk thickness variation is high spots or ack of parallelism.

I've found that most parts suppliers offer several different levels of quality for passenger car rotors. Buying the better quality ones has worked out well for me. Pads too. I was surprised to learn that the hub can easily warp.
