A channel for all those who can't get enough of watches. On this channel I'll showcase a variety of different watches ranging in price and style to suit anyone's taste
I have this watch, and love it. I put a reddish brown strap on it, and the look is sensational. I have had cataract surgery, and these hands are readable, day and night, even without closeup glasses. It looks and feels like the perfect mountain watch.
I don't have much experience with the ones in Tokyo but from what I've heard, popular places like Akihabara aren't worth checking generally because they've been picked clean already. Look for "Bazar" or "Super Bazar" locations and if you check some of the Google review images you can usually see if they have any/many watches
Though there are plenty of more expensive watches that also don't include ar coating (nomos, some Rolex, etc) Hamilton definitely should have put it on here
IMO, the SNSX is the more dressy watch. The dive markers on the SRPE ruin the look. I wouldn't wear a watch with dive markers as either a daily or a dress watch.
The Tudor black bay 36 would like a word with you 🤣 In all seriousness I can see your point. The snxs is definitely the dressier of the two and it just comes down to preferences with the dial
@@addicted_to_watches LOL - this is mostly me thing.... I'm used to being in an office / business environment where most guys wouldn't wear something like the Black Bay or the Arnie.. In fact I can't recall anyone weraing a Dive or Chronograph. I'm used to seeing typical/boring watches -- although some go for more elegant options - especially when there are formal gatherings. The exceptiona are field watches (typically peple with military backgrounds) and GMT's - especially in environments where there is a lot of connections across time zones. Of course, digital watches were frequent too because of all the geeks / nerds in the office (I was one of them).
I just picked up a broken SKX195 for 20 bucks. I then swapped the movement for the Nh36 and I changed the hands for the premium BGW9 Nautilus hands from Lucius, which fit the indices much better. New spring bars, new crystal, a little brushing and it's up and running again. It's such a great watch. Versatile, legible, comfortable, daydate, it's flat, it wears nicely on a smaller wrist, it's a bit PRX, a bit Ingenieur and overall hard to beat for the money, even with the upgraded parts.
@@addicted_to_watches The weak lume & lack of AR coating on the crystal don't belong on a field watch, and a steel bracelet isn't ideal either. In field watch terms, these are outperformed by something like a Timex Expedition at a fraction of the cost.
In my experience the Hamilton military style watches are the most OVER HYPED watches commonly recommended on RU-vid. No AR and just try getting your local watchmaker to regulate it. You were right to ingnore Hamilton as long as you did.
If they made this in 36mm it would be perfect. I would even take 38mm. I’m not sure how you are getting 12.7 for the thickness. I have one and mine is about 11.6mm thick when I measure and I believe the official number from Seiko is 11.5mm.
The SRPE55 (black dial) is my current daily watch, on an expresso leather strap, and it’s been fantastic. A great Explorer or BB 36 alternative if you’re not in that price bracket 😂
I own the SRPE61, basically the same as in the video but with a brushed bezel to avoid it being a scratch magnet. As long as you don't buy it for the retail price you can't go wrong if you're looking for decent specs on an everyday "first automatic" that's versatile and a strap monster. And with some slight changes like swapping the hardlex for a sapphire cristal you can easily make it even better without breaking the bank. Give it a try and have your fun with it, might be the last half-way decently priced Seiko.
My #1 recommendation as a first automatic used to be the Hamilton Khaki Field, but those are like 750 euro nowadays, so not really a entry point for most folks.
Hey, I completely agree with your take. The SNSX is very charming, but if you don't already have one, don't buy one now. The SRPE is a great watch. Put it on an aftermarket bracelet and it's on a whole new level. Cheers
Why are people so deluded? It's been a very long time since seiko offered quality value for money pieces (hardlex, bracelets from a factory even Pagani design refuse to use, lack of movement regulation). There are way better brands offering far higher quality pieces at real value for money.
You’re the deluded one. I can get this watch right now new for $175. Name another big brand company that I can get a watch this good at that price that is also automatic. No Ali express watches. I bet you can’t.
SARX029 is the better watch, released in 2016. I have had it since early 2020 from Japan. Seiko don't think the newer watches are better they just slightly upgraded the movement and doubled the prices in AUD from the SARX029 which retailed in Melbourne for $1,350 with the 6R15 to the new close but uglier SPB405 which is $2,600 with the 6R35 or the more boring SJE081 for $5,950 with the 6L35. The differences you are paying for is the Presage range price increases over time from 2016 to 2023 and the latter you are paying for the range increase over time but for the actual upgraded movement. Nice video!
Thanks for watching. I enjoyed reading your perspective on this. I'm not a fan of the newer spb405 either. It's lost a lot of the character that the sarx029 has. Honestly though it just seems like Seiko's retail prices are getting a bit out of control
It just sets like any regular watch. Crown to the first position does the date in one direction and gmt hand in the other, crown in the second position does the main hands as normal
I do like the eagle ray (love a compressor) and would consider it for a GMT since I don’t want a clone of a Swiss. Not sure blue would be my choice but hey, to each his own. Would be nice if the second hand hit the marks.
