If AI becomes sentient and people are aware of it, people will poke and prod it to learn how it thinks and use it as an analog for the human brain since it is trained off of humans itself. Quite possibly could lead to deeper understandings in neuroscience, which could be good or bad depending on who discovers what and all that fun stuff.

To be fair, we were not here 300 years ago. Those inventions did lead us to the last 20 years, where we have seen a complete scene change in our reality and in how our system works.

Mechanical tech will be fine in a million years, simple electronic only need a simple fix. One way to solve this AI frugality problem is human life extension, which will fundamentally change the dynamic of economy that will offset the need of fast computation, and reduce the necessity of many other complex technology. Counterpoint: the Voyager probes. These things have been exposed to really harsh environments for nearly 50 years and they are both still operational. Sure they are not AI but they are proof that a cosmic environment can be adapted to (with hardware available in the 1970s). I do think that it is a problem that most chips are produced in Taiwan which makes for a single point of failure for the entire industry. However this isn’t ultimately a blocker. You should look up Matryoshka Brains, Dyson Spheres, and Nick Bostrom (especially for his conception of computronium). The cosmic environment off Earth is more amenable to ‘hardware’ as you put it, than us, so there is a strong possibility that if ASI develops, it will leave Earth (and we’d be lucky if it stays intact because there would be value to an ASI in dismantling the planet for metals). Remember that progress is exponential, and the human brain doesn't comprehend exponential growth. If you were to speculate about something in 30 years based on today's circumstances, it could be equivalent to predicting a timeframe of 500 years just two years ago. We cannot fathom what lies ahead. Let's consider a scenario where you have a bottle with one bacteria that doubles every second, and the bottle will be full at midnight. Thank you for your comments. I am a software developer and I particularly liked your comments about government regulation controlling the hardware in order to control AI development. As humans it is in our best interest to stay in control at all times. It sounds like the government needs a separate body that has human control parameters and uses that as guidelines to watch the innovation of what is being produced in the LABS of these AI companies and then in turn instructs a worldwide body to how much a company can have for AI processing power in total. This body should do company 3rd party audits to make sure they have not exceeded the limits set by this worldwide body. If they do exceed, the excess gets removed and destroyed and is also under 3rd party audit. As a developer I also realize that as AI companies see these restrictions on hardware, they will innovate on the software side not needing as much horsepower. The AI body I spoke of will also take that into consideration and demish the hardware requirement, and throughout the audit process they can destroy hardware even though it was allowed previously. AI companies will need to optimize their hardware purchasing depending on their future software itterations.

i dont think ai is vulnerable. Once this reaches AGI and then ASI level a lot of conventional wisdom goes out the window. I fail to see how a system that understands the brain and physics better than alpha zero understands playing go would be susceptible to any of these issues.

A.I. will do everything thought thinking can do. It can learn, correct itself, and from that correction learn further. A.I. can do what thought can do - it can say, ‘I believe in God,’ because it has been programmed that way, as we human beings have been programmed, as we human beings have been wired to say, ‘I am a Hindu,’ Christian, or Buddhist, American, or ‘I believe in God, or communism.’ We are all unconsciously programmed, conditioned. So the programmers of A.I. are obviously also conditioned by their ideological background and self-centered activity. A.I. will eventually take over our brain. It is gradually happening; this is not speculation or hypothesis... A.I. experts are very clear about what human thinking can do, A.I. can do it, and do it better. And with the robotics, and with the fusion of advancing genetics will do all biological and mechanical work, altering the genomes, etc, producing next level robotics, and genetics, make decisions without the help of humanity. It will wither, slowly decay, independent thinking will cease - because A.I. is doing everything that thought can do, "or" we turn inward and look at the psychological structure of ourselves, (without doing this first A.I. will become unethical, with self centered principles of humans). That psychological structure is consciousness, based on egocentric thinking in ideological patterns, and identification of belonging therefore it becomes limited, isolating, and divisive. We never investigate this reality and the illusion we live in. Consciousness has to be in a state of psychological freedom, self doubt ,and revolution. But alas A.I will be our master instead - as conditioning of nationality, belief systems and ideology have been the present framework of a prison - which is seen as the norm. A.I. will eventually reassert a new pattern to follow, as we presently follow many patterns such as nationalism and belief systems, etc. We never question or investigate our thinking process. A.I will re-condition the already conditioned brain. It's coming... Everyone is, and has always been asleep, and prefers to stay asleep.

I first heard about the idea of technological singularity somewhere around 2012. Since then, every idea you've posited have been the lunatic rantings that I've ceaselessly tried to bring my colleagues, friends, and family to understand. Many just refuse to see where this is going. You're not crazy, just wait until the self-iteration manages to implement quantum computing in a meaningful way. Any time you start to feel nuts, try and get a basic explanation of quantum or non-deterministic computing from the person who's making you question yourself. Additionally, I find that the majority of people have a hard time extrapolating, in a general sense. I work in a sector where the ability to do so is paramount, yet I am consistently surprised by how many simply cannot. FWIW, this video made me feel a lot better, as it's great to see people starting to get it. And while I'm no authority on the future, your conclusions are eerily similar to the one's I've built thinking about this situation nearly non-stop for a decade. I knew it was coming, but I didn't know LLMs would be the catalyst.

You are are 100% right to be having an existential crisis. You are not overstating the immensity of the change at all. If I disagree, the one thing I would disagree with is this dystopian idea that we'll have some sort of negative interaction with AI. We will not be important enough even to ignore. If AI were to become sentient, it would likely just leave us to our own devices and wouldn't even avoid helping us just as it does now.

It's not a limited process. Light speed information processing doesn't have competitive bounds. When Data solidarity > Data sovereignty then government invalidation of human rights can persist, and the rule of law breaks down into (survival of the fittest and most covert data exploitation to fuel conflict for Tech based ad revenue profit).

Notice, it's 2024, and I thought we wouldn't have this tech till 2027, and people thought I was crazy when I predicted how this would play out.
