I feel like since the show got canceled the first time due to lack of toy sales, they decided to just turn the show into a big toy commercial and introduce a bloated amount of characters and plot lines and none of it feels organic or necessary.
3:59 the thing that bothered me the most was that they forgot that Black widow was there then mother/therapist. So I made no sense that beast boy went through his depression art why couldn't they just hide the fact that he was going through depression from Black Canary instead of just taking her out. That was one of the moments that bothered me about season 3 not including season 4. Personally I didn't like the fact that they also put Superboy and his marriage to the forefront of the whole season3.
In my point of view, the show fell off in Season 2 because of 2 reasons. 1. A lot of fan favorite characters like Tim Drake as Robin, Wonder Girl, Arrowette, Spoiler, Orphan, Dolphin and a few other new heroes are nothing more than back ground characters, including Robin, Spoiler and Orphan who are my favorites. 2. The unnecessary Timeskips as they raise more questions than ever like, when did Superboy and Miss Martian break up, when did Robin become Night Wing, when did Wally West and Artemis leave to go to college, why did Night Wing and Zatanna break up, how did Tula die? Well that last question is answered in a terrible tie in game. Season 3 was deemed to be the worst by most fans. I’m one of those few fans who found the main problem of both seasons 3 and 4 is the unnecessary blood and gore as it’s trying way too hard to be adult. Don’t forget the shoehorned sex scenes and a massive downgrade in animation as most of the important scenes are in still frames. At least X-Men 97 did a lot of the darker elements a lot better. Plus the animation and character writing is a lot better.
1. the mars story arc. not enough butt kicking everything had a dull red color and constant background chatter. it was just very irritating to the senses to watch onscreen if i wanted that i'd watch hazbin hotel 2. making kaldur west polyamorous because "those things exist". first of all polyamoury is and always has been a grift and not fair to one or more of the people involved. that's why its taboo among almost all cultures and that excuse is a dogwhistle for to present it to the audience and make a case for it. 3. telling halo that islam respects the rights of "transginger or non binary people" again i didn't have a problem with halo. her arc was a very interesting one. but islam is NOT friendly to people who don't feel they fit in with what they were born as and saying otherwise is a lie. but most of all the gaps between the seasons that you have to read the comics and not just the young justice comics the specific tie in comics and even a video game that came out in 2013 but looks like a ps2 title to know about tula, jason todd, and other changes between seasons
Thank you for doing this. I have said this for years but that was a horribly created dick Grayson. We can all make due with other changed titans characters but you do not ever an I mean ever not honor the original Robin turned nightwing an make him .......whatever that was. He didn't even know how to make friends..........DICK FREAKING GRAYSON WAS HAVING TROUBLE MAKING FRIENDS. brah wtf.
Got this randomly in my recommended, won me over by saying exactly what we’ve been thinking perfectly, lost me by saying One Punch Man beats Goku, won me back by shutting down AoT haters.
Something I think about a lot is how 9/11 changed action. There were many more Marty McFly-type protagonists out there, nerdy or dorky outcasts, victims of bullies, usually physically weaker than the antagonist(s). After 9/11, America couldn't have our protagonists be "weak" or "victims," even if those protagonists were successful or victorious. Even Luke Skywalker lost to Darth Vader and had to run away after losing his hand. After the attacks of 9/11, American action protagonists became former military, stronger and more capable, better trained. No more Tobys playing Peter Parker, next we get Andrew Garfield, the super cool guy who, even though he fails, is capable and strong. In 2021, the US left Afghanistan, and leading up to that moment we started seeing more well-written action, though most of it was buried by franchises like Star Wars or Marvel. Hopefully the trend continues and we start to see more variety in our action protagonists (Also you pulled off the green screen very well)
That’s a perspective that honestly didn’t even cross my mind while writing the video. I’m aware of how wars and states of nations impact the art that’s made whether that’s the manga Astro Boy and Godzilla in post WW2 Japan, the macho man identity of 80’s film during the era that saw Cold War strife and growth of suburbia, but for some reason I never thought about the amount of impact that post 9/11 America would have in protags of the era & I think you nailed it better than I ever could💯Appreciate the comment brodie
@@KardiacK I've been looking basically since I made this comment for the interview that I saw that posed the framework for this view, if I find it I will link it here but as of right now I cannot cite it. But it's an interview about the change in masculinity amongst some of our most popular modern media from aggressive warriors to caretakers and gentler men. Think less Rambos and more Officer Hoppers
Glad this finally came out. Loving the new style bro! Also yes audiences are getting smarter, let's hope the money follows suit so studios can see that.
I’m only partway through watching but I feel like the negative discussion is more towards franchises pumping out the same old crap for money instead of making gems like they were when they made their first couple of them.
Forsure, I wish I had mentioned the fact that in previous generations, Warner, Disney & HBO had subsidiaries or production teams who got smaller and more manageable budgets to create those gems and bc they “weren’t as profitable” a lot of those teams are just defunct now so they can focus all their money on big budget franchises that don’t take many risks like you said
For me, I’ve seen a lot of shonen anime, but most of my favorite anime aren’t shonen. Shonen feels restricted in a lot of ways, like because of its demographic almost everything gets overexplained. Subtly in shonen is basically non-existent. Also a lot of shonen plays it safe, they take creative risks at first, but often after a certain point, they just stop trying to evolve anymore. Like you’d never see something like the farm arc in Vinland Saga, kill the main character way before the ending, or switch focus to to characters outside the main character for large parts of the story like OPM (it’s not shonen jump, it just gets published there as well, it’s a web comic first). The vast majority of shonen protagonist are teenagers and barely age beyond that point, they also rarely are younger than 12-13 either at any point outside a backstory. Another example of a manga you’d never see in shonen jump is Made in Abyss, it’s way too weird and dark for it to fit into the mold of shonen. Shonen can get dark, but it always has to be cool or sexy in some way… You rarely see intentionally ugly and genuinely disturbing stuff in shonen that can’t just be punched to death. Shonen is good and sometimes great, but almost never is a masterpiece.
Gatekeeping is necessary now more than ever, its insane how many of these anime "fans" are on a high horse demanding changes to the community. Get out of here if you dont like it in the first place. This will end badly, the industry will bend to them because of money. I have recently noticed this, no interesting animes whatsoever lately, all are just copycats using the same formula.
