You hike your own hike and just because you don't hike the way other people think you should hike. Tell them to go pound sand. Because, you can't and shouldn't make everyone happy with what/ how you do things. Keep up your hike.
@doctorkatieosteen. She is a brilliant PT and has great success with her clients. She specializes in Plantar Fasciitis. She uses exercises to cure and it’s an online meeting. Plus she is extremely sweet and beautiful!
Have you tried arnica gel? I don't like to take medication either, but it is great alternative medication that works for me. Most people know about aloe vera for your skin, but arnica is great for deep tissue irritation.😊👣👣👣
You can buy it at most pharmacies, and you can get it at many grocery store as well, also Amazon has quite a few options, but I prefer 100% arnica gel. 😊
That pain in the arch of your foot between the ball of the foot and the heel is probably plantar fasciitis, I've had it pretty badly a couple of times and it can last months. The fascia covers muscles, tendons, etc., running from the big your all the way past the heel and up to the knee, although the pain generally raises in the arch and heel. You need to stretch and massage three times a day, morning, noon, and night. Massage before getting out of your sleep system, make sure to stretch the big toe and others, rub the arch to manipulate the fascia, and through the heel, then use a trekking pole to massage the calf muscle from the Achilles tendon up to the back of the knee. Of the pain continues, get ahold of Blaze Physio for a complete true diagnosis and care. Best of luck beating this quickly!
Of you've got plantar fasciitis, then active PT is what you need to do. It took me about two weeks of careful 3x daily PT to almost completely remove the pain, but it worked.
Does it hurt when you first walk on it in the morning? If you have a ball or a can, roll it on your calf muscles along with your arch. These are linked to your heel muscle and will help relieve some of the pain. Sounds like a case of plantar fasciitis - I have that currently due to a backpacking trip where my pack was way to heavy, plus my legs weren't strong enough yet for the season.
So glad you didn't run out of water. I always have water with me even in my house. And it's air conditioned. LOL I'm glad you are listening to your body, mind, soul and spirit~ :) Prayers!
You are thru hiking! You’ll go back and pick up those skipped miles at some point before you call the trail completed… but everyone in the middle of a thru hike still has miles to go… if they didn’t they wouldn’t be done and not on the hike because it is over! 😂
I have similar foot issues working in a hospital. As others have said try some different style of shoes. Insoles are good and I would Leukotape your heals where the sores were to prevent future rubbing/irritation. When you walk so much you have to go up in size of shoe compared to normal day to day so that might also be the issue.
Wow, you taught me something. I've been an athlete my whole life and I never thought to try muscle rub on my feet. Can hardly wait for my feet to hurt so I can try that out 😁
When I used to be into long distance cycling we used Bag Balm. It was originally developed for cow udders. It has a similar consistency to Vaseline. I believe it has antibacterial properties. You can buy it at most drug stores. Good luck.
Yes, Bag Balm is great stuff to keep udders from chafing and infection, and it works well for humans even though it says it's not for humans on the packaging. It's also sold in feed stores and may be easier to find there in rural areas.
Could be B12! Depending on how your feet actually feel. If it is the whole underside which hurt then you need high dose methylcobalamin B12. If it is the arches then you need to strech and train your feet. Yes even though you are hiking. Hiking is an aerobic activity, it doesn't build muscle but wears and tears on joints. Next zero day in town look up information on foot massage, foot stretches and foot strengthening exercise and do them every day. Yes it is your hike the "section hike" commenter probably has mot hiked as far as you and felt a need to cut you down. It is not always posdible to hike the whole way because of fires, flooding and so on. It doesn't turn it into section hiking.
Sounds like plantar fasciitis. Google it. I’ve had on and off for 30 yrs. My last remedy was KT tape applied across the arch as tight as you can. Start lateral side of foot across to medial side. Can’t use with Vaseline as it won’t stick. Definitely new shoes with good arch support will help. Lots of stretching too. Good luck. You will see lots of remedies if you Google it.
I have mentioned this previously but I think you need to be fitted for different hiking shoes. You got the inserts which is GOOD but you may need different ones with different shoes. Keeping my fingers crossed you get it resolved!!
You dodged the bullet on that pot luck. I've gotten flu, colds, and worse that way. Only takes one sick cook out of a dozen cooks to make everyone sick.
Boujee, Boujee, Bouj. Remember all those 30 milers you kept talking about and doing ever since you got back from the wedding. Well, it's time to do some Boujee subtraction and drop a few miles possibly 20'ish miles for a little bit.
My son did the PCT a few years back. When he finished, I asked him what he had learned from the hike. He said he learned how to be homeless! That is a skill and I hope he never has to use it off trail.
I feel your foot pain! It is the worst! I use a small ball like tennis or a cork and massage my feet rolling it all over the tender spots. I have had achilles pain and planters not fun. Praying the two days help get it under control. Thank you for being a bright light and sharing your story! 🌟🥰
