Thank you for a very entertaining and educating video. Just bought your book on audible, can’t wait to read it. I can’t wait for my first sailing trip hopefully soon.
What can I say... Just love it! Hope to start doing some solo sailing this year on my 38 ft Morgan in the Gulf of Mexico... Need the auto pilot working. Christian, you are an inspiration (at your mature age) ... I am 71 years young and never solo sailed. Thanks for your great videos!
Another magnificient video by the master himself! I'm always impressed with the cleanliness and organization of your vessel. You maintain her well unlike many others on RU-vid who make videos of their adventures but somehow forget to wash their boat. Yours is alway impeccable and functional. Thank you!
I like your style, you keep everything so genuine and you’re very good at explaining the workings of your boat. You’re also hilarious which is a big plus! I’m saving up for a sailboat of my own and channels like yours serve as constant inspiration for me to keep saving. Thank you!
I had not taken up sailing when the Covid virus was released. I continued to play tennis throughout the pandemic, singles and doubles. Fortunately the powers that be in my state didn't go full authoritarian over this. I believe it was clearly a man-made virus, probably produced in a US bio-weapons lab. The virus first hit China and Iran -- simultaneously. Eventually it spread to the rest of the world.
The narration is fine. The more the better, but I'm not into the avant garde jazz. I had a spell in college when I got into jazz a bit. I had a John Coltrane album. When I got to the tracks where it sounded like he was raping a chicken, I had to say, "This is enough." Ray Charles is more my style.
Since I graduated high school in 1983, my dad insisted on me getting my pilots liscence. In 1984, I discovered sloops…in particular an Erickson 38. To this day I long for one. My wife unfortunately gets sick just looking at the ocean. I envy you sir. Love your channel. Thank you!
I used to have a high opinion of many long-distance sailors UNTIL I saw them eating Dinty Moore stew, Spam, various salted meats, freeze-dried meat-containing foods, etc, etc, all of which are well-known carcinogens and disease-causers. Then doubly, for the drinking of alcohol. It's like an IQ test that they all fail.
I'm an engineer, and I just cannot fathom how your block pins are breaking. It's incredible to me. That should be able to take a thousand pounds with as many cycles before that breaks. That wind vane under that much tension?
The vane forces are only moderate. But the number of cycles is huge. 50+/hour continuous for weeks. Also, the initial installation allowed some side forces on the stainless eye bolts, and they're not really rated for that. I revised to permit only straight pull.
Love your book, I listened to it last week. Trying to afford to sail😢. Unfortunately, sailing is more and more becoming an activity primarily for the rich. I took lessons a year ago, hadn't been able to afford to sail since.
As a truck driver, I have enjoyed all of your audio books and videos. After I hang up these keys, I will be setting sail to other lands without pavement under my coccyx. It is funny seeing your sewing projects mentioned in "Alone together." They are like Easter eggs just between you and your readers. Thank you again for sharing.
I have always felt there was a Zen-like quality to sailing - a centering, calming all good feeling of being on the water and in tune with the boat, the wind, the water and the creatures... watching the small details of your experiences brings much of that into focus again. Having raced for many years, I tired of the loud voices and over exuberance on the course - now I venture out with renewed joy that in part I owe to you sir! Cheers from the Atlantic in New Hampshire!
Thanks for the visit! Are we going to Hawaii again? Soon? Love your sailing and philosophy - missed a little jazz this time, but I'm sure we'll make that up soon.
@@ChristianWilliamsYachting Hmm, not really, two end caps holding the sheaves some quarter inch line and a cleat outside the cockpit coaming that's almost nothing.
Brilliant as usual. I really respect you stranger. I was pleased as you sat on the bow upon your pillows made of gold and thanked you in your splendor. Thank you. 😎
Prop wash aint a big deal - use your dock lines - the bulk head scenario required pushing the bow out with starboard stern line belayed - or use the dingy to get bow out or kedge with anchor - reversing from slip use your ines dont even use prop u til bow put and headed
I just couldn’t deal with that wheel pilot on my I36. Finally got a linear drive below deck drive unit and not longer put up with the noise. Best wishes.
