Welcome to Northern Embers. This channel embraces life and the outdoors. My aim is to inspire others to see the beauty that the outdoors has to offer and show that nature provides us with resources that we can use and enjoy. We all love food and I try to cook many different dishes using many different methods at home and out in nature. I will camp both wild and at paid campsite and I will visit many beautiful places in Scotland, looking at the plants and animals as I go on my journey. . Fire-lighting, cooking, shelter building, wildlife watching, reviews, fire cooking, you will see all this and more over time, please join me, subscribe and comment and become part of Northern Embers.
Asi to má zatrest. Málokdo si vezme nějakou aspoň malou sedačku. Správný biftek se dělá na ocelové pánvi bez tuku. To se umí asi jen v Evropě.
That looks SOOOO delicious! Now I'm going to have to give this a try in my Firebox cast iron skillets tonight. Thanks so much for sharing your culinary expertise (indoors & out).
@@parnold-mora8924 thank you very much, glad to hear that you'll give it a go, very easy, tasty and well worth it, thought I'd do something different ha, thanks again, Chris
@@LoreTunderin ha ha, yes I get the same when I watch other people cooking, thank you for watching, I hope you had something nice to eat to defeat the hunger👍😁
@@MarcusManig🌿 an egg slicer, what contraption is this then, I am a simple person who has no access to this high tech gear😁, but I am intrigued so will have to look into it👍, always love your comment, big thanks🌲
Thanks Ben, I spent 40 minutes worrying about it and when I took it out from the Dutch Oven I was pleasantly surprised and delighted, tasted so good too, many thanks, Chris
Thanks a lot, the dried out fern comes in very handy for fire-lighting too, the denser the rock the better, so this is slate and used of roofs to repel rain, it never explodes but it does crack after 1 or 2 cooks, I do like cooking on it, my best meal I did was surf and turf on the rock a few years ago, that was really nice, all the best, Chris
I'm not much for stews, but this one looks delicious. And this is the best wood-fired bread in the whole universe! I can overlook the fact that there were no ferns to be seen this time ;-)
Hello hello, I'm still eating the bread, toasting it now for my evening meal with another stew, it went quite a long way. A humble apology for no ferns but I have some bad news, the next video doesn't even have nay greenery in it at all😁🤣, I feel like a rebel! But I will make up for it in the future, many thanks for the comment, cheers Chris
That's a fantastic cook! I'll have to try that bread, but I'm still trying to perfect the Australian damper bread. The Firebox folding kitchen knife is a great knife. I even use mine in the kitchen, not just out in the wilderness.
Thank you, good call on the knife, I was thinking to do the same too, I must explore the damper bread again, I have made it before but it was bang average, not really authentic, but it's all about the practice, cheers for the view and the comment, Chris
Hello Chris... what a great cook! 💗😋💗 I plan on making the Guinness Bread... I've never tried Venison, but I will be making the stew using ground beef... One of your best! 💗 Cheers! 🇺🇸
@@furbabies3momma thanks very much, ground beef will be perfect, sounds good, I don't have venison often but it is nice, thanks for the comment and watching, Cheers Chris
Hello Chris... We love you! Your cook may not have gone as planned, but you carried on with your unsinkable spirit! Next time, a winner! 😁 Bilberry porridge sounds delightful! 😋👌
Ha ha thanks, many of my cooks don't go to plan😂 it's all part of the experience, I've made bilberry porridge before and it was really nice, I just love the fresh wild food straight to the pot, many thanks again.
@@jamesabond9332 thanks, I just really made it up myself. 750 grams of flour 14 grams of yeast 500 ml of Guinness. Salt I could've gone with a little less liquid but it worked out fine Cheers
@@bencrichton2436 ha, yes I think so to, I'll try cook out there one of these days, wonder if there's wild food in the loch, I think it's a coastal one
@@scottl5028 thanks, I used the remainder of the mix at home in a non stick pan no bother, but the trangia is still awesome, it had been a while since I'd used it and forgot about what it's capable of ha, thanks for watching and commenting, Cheers Chris
Brilliant, I never thought of steam baking bread & butter pudding. Too stuck in my ways I guess. Wow! The only baking I've done besides bread & a muffin on the trail was a pineapple upside-down cake using 2 enamel plates on the coals of the campfire. Thank you for sharing & making think about steam baking.👍
@@Magoo652 thanks for the great comment, I've never had upside down pineapple cake but I have seen it, it looks delicious, I should like to try it one day, many thanks for watching this, Cheers
@@northernembersoutdoors1045 Use the juice of canned pineapple rings. Pineapple first, then cake mix on top. Pineapple caramelises, juice keeps it moist. Cheers👍
Oh dear, what a mess! I often use this bottle of pancake-powder, but i fill it with milk, not water. No cows around? ;-) And: use a non-sticking pan. Keep trying, you can do it! The environment is great!
Thanks Marcus, I didn't even read the instructions😂. It quite possibly would've said add milk, I assumed it had milk powder and could be very wrong. The non stick didn't help, better luck next time😎There were cows nearby, but they are my friends so I left them alone😁
Thanks Gregor, I didn't even read the label but seemingly might of had to of added milk instead of water, I assumed it had milk powder😊Ill be back out...with the cast iron
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 yeah those aluminium pans aren't very good for the non stick, that pan i used in my last video is the anodised version, still not 100% non stick but a lot better
Ha ha well good luck, be interested to see how you got on. I used the rest of the mix at home on a non stick pan and it worked fine! Thanks for watching and commenting, Cheers Chris
Wow that was some intense flame cooking there, but you still made time for that beer. 😂 Nice one Chris, really like those cast iron pans for cooking on. Cheers.
Thank you sir, the beer affected my timings I think😎. Cast iron it's really brilliant, going to give them a good clean up and look at some indoor cooking now, I'm thinking focaccia, that type of thing. Cheers Gregor
Good morning Chris. Good cook. I don’t like my own cooks to turn frantic because I know I am only one slip away from the whole thing sliding into the gutters.
Cheers Paul, I would say an unplanned frantic cook, I started cooking too soon but I had other things to do so needed to crack on😅. Good experience though!
