Employee: Sir, Jenson messed up the shotgun. Should we fix it? Manager: Nah, modders will. Keep making sure we have the lowest amount of points of interest for the procedural generation, modders will add more too.
As a veteran who has handled many types of firearms, I do see a lot wrong with them. Some of them leave me scratching my head on how it works and why don't we ever have any brass. Ever.
I don't care if my guns aren't "cannon" to the world's weapons, I'll use a Halo weapons and armor mod because I want to use a Halo weapons and armor mod!
Gauss Weapons are not really fantasy weapons actually, but a relatively new concept actually being tested in the works. At the time this video was made, the GR-1 "Anvil" which was in its very early infancy the year this video was released, is the First commercially sold Gauss Weapon/Coilgun. It would not really be called a rifle though, as the GR-1 was designed as a smoothbore weapon. What makes Gauss weapons different the Railguns despite both being very similar in terms of using a magnetic field to fire projectiles and that they are both Coil-guns, but Gauss Weapons when they Fire, the solid projectile passes through a Series of Magnetic coils/Magnets powered by "Capacitors" (which are similar to a batteries, but stores that energy differently and releases the energy stored inside of them MUCH more quickly) which powers the Coils and gives the projectile a boost in velocity from each coil it passes Until it leaves the barrel. Note: Although due to the powerful electromagnetic field produced by those coils, the GR-1 Anvil could also Fry sensitive electronic devices nearby when it fires. So people with pacemakers should never use these weapons. Although unlike in fallout, the GR-1 does not have a very fast Projectile speed due to it being in its very early stages of development. Railguns uses a series of (usually two) conductive Rails to create an electromagnetic field that launches the projectile forward at a much higher velocity. Although Rail guns as a result consume unGodly amounts of electricity and are much more Prone to overheating, which makes then unsuitable for being hand-held weapons.
If you’re upset about the heavy weapons and want some actual fun gameplay with a heavy set up, the weapons I’ve found best are the “bleed flamer” which adds 25 bleeding damage to every hit which is A LOT and shreds enemy’s very quickly even late game without mods. Next is “Aeternus” or however the hell you spell it which takes 1 fusion core and never runs out of ammo “actually accurate to the lore around fusion cores”
If anyone’s curious, the reason so many guns in fallout and other games are flipped is because it makes animations more dynamic. Devs like adding casings flying across your screen to make gunfights more animated. Their options are to either flip the gun or make your character left handed/left eye dominant, and 9/10 times they flip the gun because left handed animations feel weirder to most people.
it makes perfect sense - by that time the USA was in war for a long time - and they were cutting corners - they needed a lot of weapons cheaply and easly made - so they didnt care much for ergonomics or looks - they needed volume that rifle is the result of that very mindset which btw kinda reflects the 50-ties just right after WW2. the very notion about ignoring esthetics or ergonomic for firepower and cost reduction is also reflected in laser rifles or plasma weapons btw. As for the cursed look and mismatching attachments - well this reflects well the reality of the wasteland - you use what you can get your hands on - and if it works - then its good enough.
And whose fault it is, that keeps feeding Bethesda's stupidity, YOU STUPID FANS, THAT ARE TO WEAK TO SPEAK WITH YOUR WALLETS, AND KEEP PURCHASING THEIR CRAP. Ah satisfying.

"Everything is wrong with this game" Then why even make a vid...oooh thats right, money
I like to think all of the bullshit we have seen from bethesda for the lat 9 years or so, is all cut corners and laziness, because their true efforts are being put into the elder scrolls 6. If 6 is not GOD TIER and completely smashes skyrim, then bethesda is actually dead. Until then this is the kind of thing we can all expect from them. Garbage until 6 comes around.
I think the guns were supposed to be (I hope it’s intentional) comical. Fallout is full of irony and dark humor. If you had guns from modern warfare it would clash with the fallout aesthetic. That being said every gun is left handed which is fucking wild
