Refurbishing an old plane, even if it costs twice as much, will be more satisfying. Every aspect will be better: the steel, the weight, the finish, the hardness of the blade, the quality and fit of all the screws and adjustments. Plus it will be classier. I bought one of these while on vacation to fix my host’s door. The first 60 minutes were spent doing the same things he did here, the next 5 minutes were spent doing the job! It came with a horrible little block plane that went straight into the recycling bin.

@trackie1957 20 дней назад
The sides of the plane do not have to be square to the sole. If you want to use the plane on its side, you just have to ensure the blade cuts square with the side. Take a few cuts, check the squareness of the cut, adjust the iron and you’re good to go.

Barry, if you dont have separate wires on the board for the potentiomoter and there are like 8 small wires in a clip type that plugs into the board , do i just look for another board , is there a way to adapt it to that clip, do i have to find a whole other motor. I wish you would have made the video with the wires displayed better. It looks like a jumble or wires.. I found the exact set you have and i cant get it to work. Ive numerous configuration and all it does is trigger the breaker

Thank you very much. This video showed me exactly what i needed to know because switching to a tread mill motor is what i have to do on my smithy lathe mill. I dont have the 700 bucks they want to convert to a 2 hp motor, after the original fried ,so the treadmill motor is my best option, since its free. After watching this i noticed not all the treadmill motors are set up differently and this wont work. Which Treadmill did you get this out of?

Clear, concise and well explained with good videography. Exactly what I needed to learn how to factory delete the unwanted bits from a treadmill motor salvage, or add in my own. 10/10 well done

I have an old treadmill that has two wires going to a control box that had speed up and speed down arrows on it, that box is shot, it only has two wires going to it, is it possible to just hook up a potentiometer to just those two wires to regulate speed?

Is there any thing i can do bfor replacing the pressure switch, motor keeps tripin 80 psi and leting air out it doesnt cut on and build up,
@ericbredvick813
@ericbredvick813 3 месяца назад
I see you replied lately so thought I would give you what I am experiancing with mine and hopefully help you. I have a 30gal. 6hp. Craftsman which was tripping the breaker shortly after start up. That time decreased to soon as you flipped the switch the breaker tripped. Pulled off the pressure switch cover to see one of the white wires had got so hot it was black on the end and almost no connection to it blade terminal. Replaced pressure switch with same as came with. Still tripping breakers after that. As I see that yours is tripping later at 80psi. and leaking off with no cut on. It sounds like you may have dirty contact points in your pressure switch. If you unplug the unit and pull the pressure switch cover you can inspect each set of points. They naturally build up carbon between the points over time. You can use 400 grit or equivalent folded over and slid back and forth between each set to regain good connectivity. While inspecting the contact points see if the are any pits or if the point pads themselves are wore very thin in comparison to thickness of new ones. And compare thickness to all the contacts in your pressure switch . One or more could be wore much more which could also help determine your issue. If you leave pressure switch cover off and observe when turning on you may be able to see an issue. Lots of times if points get dirty they will stick together which this may be happening to yours. And maybe your cut-in is near 80psi. so when your compressor reaches that point and your pressure switch tries to flip and make contact one set of points are dirty or sticking on with activity. One more thing is that another set of points exists which your capacitor or capacitors are connected to. I don't know if your compressor is just like Barry's or not. Mine is close. His I believe is a model 919-167200. Mine is 919-167300. So I do see that his motor appears to be the same as mine seeing his has the stationary switch with the rotating switch. There is an adjustment for those points but primarily this set of contacts used in start up. But if dirty could be a partial culprit. That is all I can give you for now and hope it helps you get you problem solved.

Great video! Have a Craftsman compressor with a very similar switch. The contacts in the switch are fried! What is the part number on the Square D switch you replaced the old switch with? It does look a lot better. Also, I never knew that about the Teflon Tape, thanks!

Awesome video. Agree with many other comments... very clear with extra optional features that could be done depending on the application! My son and I are using a treadmill motor to drive a DIY BB gun shooting range project and this will help us with the simplest way to modify the treadmill motor/controller card. Thanks!

What kind of treadmill was that? I'm scouting for a donor, not sure what to look for. ~2 hp would be ideal.

@@ptz0nPro-Form CrossWalk Advanced 525x. I think the motor said 2.4 hp. It's got some kick to it. I slapped a 10k pot and switch on it just like in this video and it works exactly as advertised.

The way I got the compression fitting off my 1/4" unloader pipe was I got a 3 jaw puller and turned it into a 2 jaw puller. And I had a small piece of aluminum that I set on top of the pipe to keep from damaging it. And I tightened down the 2 jaw puller and pulled the nut off which in turn also pulled the compression fitting off. I rented the 3 jaw puller from Autozone.

I got mine working with a 10k potentiometer, but I have a problem. While watching the voltage once I get to 3.2v I can no longer turn the speed down. I have to go to 4.6v then it turns off But it keeps ramping up till 4.5v. Do you know what is going on?

Hi Berry. I have a question. I’m using a SCR and bridge rectifier to control the rpm of my 130 VDC treadmill motor. The last thing before the motor is a DPDT switch for forward and reverse. I’d like to have a green and red indicator light that tells whether motor is forward or reverse. The problem is that I have 130 VDC and maybe 20 Amps going to that DPDT switch. How do I connect 24 VDC led lights that can only handle several mA’s Thanks. Paul

You note a clip during the disassembly which didn’t seem to serve a purpose. That is used to hold the two vise jaws together during shipping. I don’t think it serves any further use.

The choke significantly reduces arcing at the motor brushes resulting in longer motor life. You should always use the choke unless you are trying to burn up the brushes on purpose.

Hi Barry. Good video. I have some questions. What is the function of the heavy flywheel? I’m going to hook up my lathe to an SCR driven variable speed drive with a reverse capability. Should I remove the flywheel or somehow secure it so it doesn’t spin off? Thanks, Paul

Obviously an older video, but the information is still useful. I have basically the same treadmill circuitry that I just removed from an older thrown out treadmill that still worked. And when I see such road side trash, I have to pick it up for the motor and circuits. And so far the ones I picked up all worked or needed a bridge rectifier replaced to work perfect... Go figure... Thumbs Up!

I think I have that same compressor. My pressure switch finally broke after many years. Previously I had to replace the regulator and I used a better one because the one that came with it would fly apart without warning it was held together by plastic threads. Just a cheap piece of unsafe crap. The pieces would shoot up and hit the ceiling in my garage and it happened
