Watching this sure makes me excited for my visit as I'll be there a week from today. While Skookum & number 2 won't be there, I will be seeing number 2 the next day when I visit ORHC.

Looks beautiful - Is that all along Clear Creek, or down a side canyon?

Carson is a very smart young man. He has the operation of steam locomotives down pat. He asks good questions. Fun to listen to him. I see him being a steam engineer in the future 🙂

Steam may well still be the most cost effective traction where traffic is light and the route is not worth electrifying.

@shayfan05

The wet rails are from water being poured on the wheels of the engine. This is done to keep them cool from the brakes being applied while coming down the mountain.

As far as I'm concerned, there is no 20th century steam locomotive that is more all American then a Baldwin built Mikado.

I saw 4960 yesterday, it was my first time seeing a Standard Gauge live steam locomotive in action. I was happy to see tons of people at the station to see the locomotive. Smelled like Burgers though cuz of the fuel I'm guessing
