Tangmere always provides fantastic viewing but must consistently produce the most black smoke of all steam locos allowed on our rails. I've always thought that this indicates either inefficient combustion or a poor grade of coal or, worst case, both together. I certainly wouldn't want clothes on my washing line anywhere near a Tangmere Special. Another great video BTW Nige, keep 'em coming.
Thanks Rare Rufus for your lovely comments, it’s not my field so I wouldn’t like to say what the reason was for so much black exhaust but it does bring back memories of bringing the wash in off the line covered in soot and a lot of the washing was white in those days 😂 cheers 👍
Thanks for your lovely comment, with this being the Northern Belle there was always going to have a diesel on the rear and at present all West Coast charters are using CDL coaching stock so need the diesel on the rear for those, cheers 👍

Excellent captures and looking forward to seeing the Class 50's running the forthcoming Grampian Highlander tour as these locos were never a feature on the ECML north of Edinburgh and I have only seem them before at heritage lines like the SVR.👍

What a lovely sight to see a 50 over Shap! Glad it got over the fells ok as I don't think all was well with D400 as it was shut down at Carlisle and didn't run for the rest of the day! Another excellent video and even the weather was nice!
