Since 2010! Hi there, I’m Anna! Glad you stopped by. I’m a mom to two incredibly inspiring daughters. My oldest daughter had the curliest blonde hair when she was little and my nickname for her was ‘noodlehead’. It’s one of many nicknames, but it stuck, it’s fun and a little goofy - just like us. I’m pretty sure I’m a lot like you. I love to sew and be creative.
I grew up sewing with my mom, but having two daughters gave me the drive to start sewing more and more. Before having children, I graduated college with a B.A. in Art. I loved painting and printmaking!
I started my blog in 2009. I started selling my own patterns in 2010! I’ve also written a book (Handmade Style, Lucky Spool Media) and I also design fabric for Robert Kaufman Fabrics (Collections: Forage, Driftless, Quarry Trail & more!).
I’m having fun creating, making up new things as I go along, discovering new techniques!
When using zipper by the yard, is there a heuristic for length? e.g. She is making the medium pouch, and it appears she cut the zipper by the yard down to 15". The pattern says a 12" Handbag zipper is needed. Is adding 1.5" to the "official length" on each side typical? Thanks!
Thanks for making this sew a long. It was very helpful and your videos are really excellent!. I want to use canvas for the "accent" fabric (gusset). You mentioned that it would change the interfacing used in the bag. Could you tell me what interfacing I should use on the rest of the bag when using canvas fabric as the accent fabric. The rest of my bag is cotton/linen exterior and cotton lining. Thanks so much.
Could I use soft faux leather for this pattern, and if so do I need to use interfacing? I’m looking forward to watching your Sandhill bag videos, I’m sure they will very useful! Thanks
This was perfection. What great comprehensive instructional video. Three questions: 1. Why the mesh? Why would a mesh pocket be better than a fabric pocket? What are the benefits to using mesh over cloth. I just don’t get the durability aspect, ….. do they hold up to daily wear and tear? 2. I like my inside pockets to have some umph to them. Could I add SF101 to the zipper pouch? 3. When sewing the lining how far down on the side do you start to go from sewing a 1/2 inch to 3/8th seam? This would be new to me so I would probably mark or draw it out. Thank you very very very much for this well thought out pattern demonstration. I would love to see you make a video of a clasp coin purse with a gusset and how You would map that out and put it together. I bet that would also be a great video!!!! There are several on YT, but I do not speak Korean and have only found one English version and that left a lot of holes in the instruction. You are methodical and patient in your approach. You strike me as a person that could make such a video. Just food for thought.😊
Great tutorial @noodleheadsewingpatterns , love it. One question. I made first bag, is the zipper end supposed to be visible inside the bag or should it be tucked in between lining and exterior? I am not sure if I made mistake or not and I want to make my next one better:) Thank you!
I love this bag so much! I made the smaller size for myself for everyday and the larger for my bestie to use as a weekender. One question - is there an easy way to add a divider zipper pocket? That would be a nice feature. I love your patterns so much! This and the Makers backpack have been great for me as a beginner.
@@noodleheadsewingpatterns I’ve never used it before but how would I go about attaching it since it doesn’t have a stop to measure from. Thanks in advance ☺️
You said in the video that you'd provide a link for binding instructions - don't see it. Would like to not have to purchase 2 patterns just to do the binding.
Slow and steady, and make sure you have clipped into the seam allowance to help everything lay flat. It can take some time to get those curves just right. Keep practicing and it will get easier!
Thanks for making it look so easy Anna. Could I leave the bottom of the interior zip pocket open so that I can use it to turn the pouch later? I like a neat look on the interior of the pouch.
Hello, I bought the pattern, but I couldn't figure out how many cm the cross strap and bag handles are, can you help me? I commented on Instagram but I can't send a DM.
Hello, it's on page 3 of the PDF file, under the Cutting Instructions column, the cuts are listed under each specific webbing width (ie From 1.5"/38mm - wide webbing). If you have any other questions you can email us via our Contact page on our website: noodle-head.com/pages/contact
The lengths to cut are under each webbing heading (on page 3, the right hand column almost at the end), you'll have to read it. Each length to cut is next to a check box. Please email with questions, I can share a screenshot of exactly where you need to look.
Thank you for making excellent tutorials. I made two Sandhills and two Yarrow pouches using your tutorials. May I ask. Could you use quilt cotton for the exterior? And is it important to make sure you have the grainline in the right direction when cutting?
Thank you! Glad you liked making the Sandhill and Yarrows! I wouldn't recommend it for the exterior, but you could, I would use a heavier interfacing/heavier combination of interfacings if you did. And yes, grainline is important.
Why does the pattern say to buy Pellon Peltex 72F which is double sided? I can’t fuse it to my base! I guess you’re not fusing it, only stitching it. Is that right?
Hi! I do fuse mine if I'm using a regular canvas or similar fabric. If I'm using a waxed canvas I do not, I only stitch it to keep it in place. Hope that helps!
I just made this and it came out SO good. The pattern and instructions were so easy to follow, and the video was so helpful. I will definitely make more of these!
Hi there! Ive got as far as the flap attachment and realised that I've inserted the zip with the zipper pull to the right. Is this crucial? Should I unpick everything back to the zip insertion? Oh dear - I hope not!! Judith
Finally made one today! Beautiful pattern and I’m always so grateful for your videos. I’m not sure what happened but the zipper I cut (18 inches) didn’t result in having a longer overhang 😢
I don’t think so. I watched Oklaroots’ tutorial and she had the same look to the zipper so it must be right! I’m making another today so I’m going to use a longer length zipper as I like yours showing a long tail. Love all of your patterns!!
@@frankiedewsbury9100 Check out step 4a (specifically the tip), if you used zippe-by-the-yard you needed to cut your zip to a little bit longer (it's noted in that tip).
I am super excited to make a set for my upcoming travels abroad! Do you think this pattern would work with leather? I bought some beautiful 2-3oz. Italian pebbled leather. Thanks for another great pattern - Karyn
@@noodleheadsewingpatterns Thankyou so much for replying! I live in the UK but I found this on Amazon so just ordered! Also, thanks for amazing sew along - sooo useful to me! Looking forward to my next pattern! Judith. Cooper
Thank you! Yes, they're my current favorites. Here's a link where I got mine: carolynfriedlander.com/products/kai-7150-scissor?_pos=1&_sid=a1563a862&_ss=r
Definitely high on my make list when I return home from holidaying! Not just a great pattern, a great tutorial too, as a visual learner I really appreciate the time and effort you put into making this. Thank you!
I foresee making many of these!!! The small and medium sizes are so perfect for nappy clutches. I'm also thinking about making a version that is lined in PUL to put my wet swimmers into - so versatile. Your versions look so beautiful!
I'm using a cotton canvas with fusible batting for the exterior and cut everything out & fused it with reading to page 3 about quilting it. :( Do you think I'll still be ok without quilting the batting to the exterior? Thank you!
I love this design, but the totes aren't quite big enough for what I need. Would it be difficult for a beginner to adjust the pattern to make the bag about 2" wider?
Hi Emily, you could also make the Backpack size (which is bigger) into a tote by leaving off the backpack stuff on the back and adding a front handle to the backside. Otherwise, yes, you could do it fairly easily. Add 2" in width to all of the Main Panels and then 2" at the fold of the base piece. Hope that helps!
Just bought the pattern, some hardware and your books....excited for it to get here. Great fabric choices for making them today....#1 is my favorite. 😊
Don’t print from iPad guys, but MacBook gave me 100% choice. Good I did a test. Thx for extra downloads 🙈Can’t wait to get this cut out. You have fabulous fabric combinations but I must check my stash. Thx for video help
