I’d be more willing to buy a boat if they didn’t break down or leak every year. For the initial price I expect it to not fall apart in 12 months. Nonsense to spend 20% of the cost in maintenance starting almost immediately.
We made the mistake of buying a Godfrey, from a dealer in a different state when we were on vacation, they lied and said we had a dealer in our home area, well it happens to be 2 hours away and we have had a lot of warranty work that needed done and it is a total headache to get it done in a timely manner, needless to say this has made us not want another Godfrey when we upgraded
two items that I always do are. Small cheap trailers use wiring harnesses with crimp-on connectors, I remove them and solder the connection. never a bad connection after that. The other item I do once a year is to remove all the wheel lug nuts and brush on anti-seize. Again I no longer have seized on lug nut that can ruin your day if you need to change a tire especially on the side of the road.
In this part of the world we are obliged to pass other boats on the Port (left) side and we are meant to do loops etc to the left (anti-clockwise). So we always do left turns for skiing or wakeboarding.
Everyone’s talking about the towbar that our pontoon doesn’t have one but eyeless at the end of the pontoon information on that would be nice. Still need to go buy a harness.
Here in Manitoba Canada. Boat prices still going up. People still asking high dollar for used boats. Dealer carries g3 boats and alumarine. Didn’t bring in any G3’s just the open basic fishing boats Alumarine that are selling and people can afford
The best setup now is using hydrofoil to lift the boat. The strakes add more resistance. The high power pontoons boats just show you can go fast with anything with a big enough engine. The MPG figure will be absolutely horrible. A true hull boat lifts the entire boat out of the water so it is only riding on the tiny lift plate, making it go fast without using 10x the fuel.
Quick question to all you veteran boaters. Moving to the coast and looking to enjoy the water. As such, I've been researching boat and types of engines. Are stern drives really that bad? Bad in terms of maitenance , costs, .....than V drives? Any and all feedback really appreciated. At this juncture, I've been filtering my choices to just V drives.
The what not to do knot🪢 is called a ⛓️ chain sinnet n is only used to eat up the extra loose line in order to keep it out of the way n neat and tidy. This keeps it from being a tripping hazard after a proper cleat hitch has been used
Covering the boat increases fuel economy trailering and keeps the boat cleaner when trailering. I've been trailering for 25 years with bow and cockpit tonneaus without issue and without damage to the Sunbrella covers. I highly recommend trailering with covers on for longer distances. Now I don't recommend trailering with the Bimini up but that isn't the same issue. Further, many boat manufacturers make trailering covers which are surely safe, keep the boat clean and save fuel.
Its not a lanyard but this happens to me on my motorcycle too. Forget to turn the switch to RUN and can't immediately figure out why it cranks but won't start. 🙃
My wife and I just bought our first boat, a used one, after retiring and moving out of the city. Your videos have been extremely helpful in relieving the nervousness and anxiety of first time boaters. Many thanks !
So a mooring cover is not for trailering but also a travel trailering cover is not for trailering. Wonder why they are called that then and made to securely tie down? Apparently you’ve never encountered an 18 fishing boat that is fished in numerous places. And taking all the items out so they won’t blow away is just too time consuming. Way too many boats do not have all of their seat cushions securely attached. A travel cover is okay for traveling!
I go by sound on trim all the way down I can hear my motor under more load as I trim up I get to a point where I hear the load release and my rpm’s start climbing more I usually leave it there until I stop again what I don’t know is if I keep going up more will I gain more speed or is the point I’m stopping at now the sweet spot and most ideal?
Great newb video for sure 👍. The first lesson I always give people when asked, is the whole “They all aren’t JetSkis” thing. It drives me insane, and you guys explaining it is awesome.
I have had the sea doo switch. I live in central MN. It’s great for maneuverability sea doo has solved all the low speed dock stress with the IBR system. The switch is awesome for my family of 4 and it was pretty reasonable priced.
Minimum 10 videos on RU-vid with the title- Two vs One motor, and 8 of them are nothing but an obvious generalization. No single number. No test results Just like two cars are better than one but more expensive.
I’ve always been my understanding that the engines in these things don’t last very long. (Goes generally forget boats too of course). I’ve heard of so many folks that have had to call on their warranties for engine problems if not replacement. And personally, the reputation and displays of behaviour of most owners, is something I’ll stay away from for good reason. I’ll stick with boats.
Definitely not the case with newer engines. They will last hundreds and hundreds and HUNDREDS of hours with regular maintenance. New four stroke motors will last forever
Buy a boat for yourself and rent a PWC whenever you get the itch for some adrenaline! At least thats what Im doing until I have money to get both haha. Also PWC is a big plus if you have other friends that have them too and you can explore together.
I now have a Merry Fisher. Sociable, dry, has a toilet, can cope with bad weather. But it's sooo boring. I miss my jetski every day! I need to have both....
