With the new Heist mechanic, I was crying a lot with my dimir control deck. Now it is an Esper control instead. Reprieve made me swap my crying for my opponent's. Now I let them Heist wherever they want, and when they cast, I draw a card, usually a good one because the they chose it themselves. It is simply amazing. Reprieve "counters" the spell, I put it in my hand and even draw a card, all of that for 2 mana. Simply amazing.
I've got another card suggestion for people making this deck: Storm of Forms! "When you cast this spell, copy it for each kind of counter among permanents you control. You may choose new targets for the copies. Return target nonland permanent to its owner’s hand." Also, the land Nesting Grounds can move one counter at a time from a permanent you control to any permanent.
I think Mana Drain and Counterspell need to be balanced out by Pyroblast. Without having counterspells or card advantage yourself you just can't outvalue these Lurrus or Oko/Uro piles.
My issue with timeless right now (a very different meta than what he's talking about now) is that people are able to just play standard aggro decks because they're insanely strong without much resistance since board wipes arent prevalent.
You need scavenged brawler in that deck. Get that thing in the graveyard and you get 5 counter types for 5 mana. I also like ozolith paired with all will be one In this deck too.
Really in love with the format but understand what you're sayng. I also think it's impossible to understand why they printed bowmasters. Modern have the same problem.
The format is Aggro (burn, zoo, delver shadow lurrus). Midrange (the ring, uro, oko, omnath), And primeval Titan/field of the dead decks. I don’t think his critique stands up. If he doesn’t like the bow master stuff then play field of the dead and crush them.

Maybe is just a skill issue. I am a legacy player and easily I adapted to timeless. Playing bant beans control where uro, timeless dragon, shark thyphon and even the zombie land thing that produces tokens, are all my win cons in small quantities. Still work in progress but been a blast. Yes I face those type of decks that you talked, but vs combos always was like that... Or you combo first or you have the answer... Nothing new there.
ok, maybe bowmasters should go on the restricted list, however they're not that bad of a problem for mono-red players so we don't even care if the opponent is playing them really. i don't know man, you sound like a crybaby- shut up. lol timeless is awesome!
Reading these comments many months later is hilarious. Really puts armchair game designers in a different light. What will be banned versus what happens if some cards aren’t banned is wayyyy off.
I think you can just play Brainstorm AND Bowmaster, just need a critical density of Bowmaster answers (with Snapcaster/Lurrus to buy them back). If you see the 1B open and try to Brainstorm, it's how you draw out the Bowmaster and then remove it or start the counterfight. To me, those moments are exciting.
I literally run a deck that revolves around looting and drawing. Litearlly levery card loot draw. Literally draw 60 cards in one turn. ALl my creatures are esentially 1/1s. Do i care about bow masters? never had issue with bow mastrs. I think it's overhyped noonsense.
Agree. Was a legacy player for many years (up until the ban on deathright some years ago) so I was excited to try out Timeless. However, as my first real exposure to Bowmasters in magic games, I really hate the card, it just seems very oppressive. I suppose I'm also used to the play patterns in legacy where Daze was very important in order to not fall behind too quickly and it would be useful against bowmasters, but yeah. bowmasters comes down and it's death by a thousand cuts.
The format is fun but some of the combos are so powerful that the game becomes boring imo. There's not a lot of decision making, just do the combo on turn 4 and you win.
Control players always ruin MTG. You want to draw cards for free with zero punishment, its terrible honestly. Bowmaster keeps control from running amok, but somehow that's bad now...
Formats awesome nothing needs to be addressed yet players who actually have the decks crafted are loving it format is everything I wanted it to be I wanted a “modern or legacy like format” since beta arenas client is so much better then mtgo and now we finally have a high power format ❤🎉🎉🎉

Thos format is great. Give it some time for the meta to adjust, and the bloom of new brews. One thing i am happy about IS ( i played a lot of historic and explorer) NOT MORE SELESNYA LIFE GAIN and no more ELVES. On those formats you'd see those 2 archtypes 15 ou of 20 games
I find more tedious that you HAVE to keep a hand with at least a 1 mana removal against Ravagan or you lose. The problem with Timeless is that everyone is playing with Bolt, Brainstorm, Necropotence, Counterspell, Ravagan, Sword To Plowshares, Dark Ritual, Orcish Bowmaster, Memory Lapse, The One Ring etc. That is, and how to blame them? I use them too. If I will find it boring, I will switch back to Historic. Thank you CGB for sharing your thoughts :-)
I have no idea what this set is lol, other than it appeared out of nowhere, doesn't seem to be Standard and you can no longer buy Caverns Ixalan packs in the MTGA store only Tarkir! 🤔
I feel its missing a lot of fun enablers legacy has to where you can run silly cards and get away with it. Also wish they would put a lot of old cards from the earlier sets into arena.
Maybe I was alone in this, but I from the get go have been playing decks that play ok into bowmasters and it's been doing me wonders. I also am a huge combo nerd, and love this format. Aslong as we dont add 0mana counters this format is amazing for me even though I'm running into more midrange than combo
Bro why no T3feri. Really helps esper deal with bowmasters. Also drop inquisition for more interaction. 8x hand interaction is a post-sideboard move. Also post draw pre-main thoughtseize is an insane and disgusting interaction.
This can be said on every format. Everything goes back to the problem circle when someone played the first counter spell, so people figured out early winning combinations. The game should not focus on the early phase, but rather on enjoying the deck. At the same time, we can ask the question, don't we want to win as quickly as possible? This is the eternal cycle, the catch 22. That's why the game economy exists, and the game maker makes a living from it.
The format is amazing, that's what I would call "real" Magic. Although I agree : it already revolves around Ragavan, Bowmaster, Oko, Uro, Memory Lapse, Brainstorm, fetchlands and a few others such as Teferi. The unlimited format already ends up very limited.
You should really try timeless BO3, it solves a lot of the issues you mentioned and makes the mini game of “do they have bow masters” more fun. It’s usually also correct to draw on your turn instead of their turn :)
I have been playing burn and combo isn't really a problem with main deck Eidolon and is fast enough to get under the midrange piles for the most part (multiple Uro draw is somewhat a problem). I am 8-2 against grixis shadow. I was considering trying ponza but probably too slow to deal with the combo side of the format.
