I made the decision to get my license in Canada. After talking to some friends who have their ppl they all recommended just getting my ultra permit and going for something like a zenith 601 HD. It'll be a fraction of the cost for entrance and a fraction for ownership costs. Yes there are limitations but for what I'm looking for it just makes more sense.
So, to take some of the "scary" out of EXPERIMENTAL, how about we get the FAA to come up with a new category/class/whatever? Maybe it could be called general class and there could be a commercial class or something for the certified aircraft.
Rent til u get bored of flying, doesnt take long. It aint that fun and its hard to use small planes for travel. Then spend your money on a "fat" ultralight to fly on the weekends
Sooo basically, the FAA put onerous requirements on everyone and made it really expensive as a result--for at least part of this. Inflation for the rest. They are the government, they have been here to help since 1958 after their predecessors before, and boy do we feel it. Not to say that there is zero good out of the FAA, but who says we can't achieve standardization and safety without Uncle Sam breathing down our necks?
Thanks for sharing your experiences with the RV-12 It is a beautiful aircraft! So do you know if they have changed the kits to reflect all the fix's. I'd love to hear your comments on the RV-9A and RV-10A as to the bad Fix's
I live in Indiana, if I can't take off in my plane and be in Florida in a couple hours, then Ill just wait until I can build the first flying car like the Jetsons had.
Great video but those of us who fly Cubs in Florida should remember that they never made an engine that would not quit.I know its rare but those gators would make short work out of you if you land in their world. I always have dry land pick out if I need it and don’t fly over lakes in Florida. And I take a gun and knife just in case.
I fly professionally for a legacy carrier and have zero debt and make good money and there is no way I am buying a plane. New, used, certified or experimental. As fun as GA flying is, it just is ridiculously expensive. I will stick to renting one 2 or 3 times a year. It is much cheaper and less of a hassle.
Great video. I "met" your airplane when the previous owner had flown it to Apopka where we were all attending the 2 day light sport inspection course. It's a nice ride! I own a -12 (Washington State). All things aside, I'd never fly it IMC or even at night for that matter without a backup display and backup AHRS. 4K+ hours flying cargo in all weather, single pilot day/night all over the US taught me a few things about how much of a fan boy I am for backup instruments!! One of the downsides of glass is you can't just go partial panel. It's all or none. Seems like a link in the chain to not have them! Have fun, be safe, I enjoyed the video.
Awesome planes! I would love a 10 one day. I think most of the fly ins around Florida happen in the fall. However there are a bunch of EAA breakfasts almost every weekend. X21 does theirs the first weekend of every month. It’s a good time. Hey, is Ocala going to get a radar sometime? I know it gets crazy there sometimes and it’s gotta be tough without a radar.
It's not all that hard, just keep driving your paid off 7 year old car/truck and stop going out to fancy restaurants. Back when I was getting my license, I observed that most airplane owners were NOT driving newer cars, they were driving 5-10-20 year old cars.
